A Cause effect essay
Smoking is thought to be a way of life. Many people
engage in the practice without being aware of the
potential health risks it poses.Smoking has life-altering
consequences and is one of the most addictive lifestyle
choices. It has been described as one of the most
significant health issues that health organizations
currently face.In 2014, there were more than one billion
smokers worldwide, as reported by the World Health
Organization. It is essential to investigate some of the
causes and effects of smoking in order to comprehend its social and health effects.
The most common reason people smoke is peer
pressure. The majority of people are obsessed with
friendships in their adolescence and early
twenties.Friends are extremely important and significant
to people at this stage in their lives. The majority of young
people, particularly those in college and high school,
engage in a variety of life-threatening and dangerous
behaviors, one of which is smoking.Frequently, their
intention is not to smoke, but rather to enjoy being young
and feel superior to their peers.Members of a group that
smokes are more likely to start smoking
themselves. These people try to quit smoking later in life,
but the withdrawal effects make it difficult.
A person's parenting style may also play a role in whether
or not they smoke.A child's behavior as an adult is
significantly influenced by their upbringing. The majority
of children will emulate their parents' lifestyle choices
and look up to them.It is completely irresponsible for
some parents to smoke in the presence of their
children. When parents smoke in front of their children,
they teach them that it is not harmful. When these kids
get older, they start to enjoy smoking tobacco without
realizing that it is a bad habit.
Another common misconception is that smoking helps
alleviate stress. The majority of people are deceived into
thinking that smoking relieves stress. As a result, a lot of
people start the routine as a way to deal with
stress.Notably, if one continues to smoke, they become
addicted, making it extremely difficult to break the habit
once they begin.According to research, smoking does not
lessen stress; rather, it makes it worse.Smokers
experience twice as much stress as non-smokers do.
According to research, smoking is the leading cause of
lung cancer worldwide. Both active and passive smokers
are likely to develop lung cancer as a result of the
practice.People who do not smoke but are exposed to
cigarette smoke are considered passive smokers.Medical
professionals contend that smoking damages the lining of
the lungs, leading to lung cancer.Lung tissue undergoes
immediate change when cigarette smoke, which contains
carcinogens that can cause cancer, is inhaled. If a person
smokes for a short time before quitting, the lung tissues
will repair themselves, lowering the likelihood of
developing lung cancer. However, continuing to smoke
causes lung tissues to suffer permanent damage to the
point where they cannot be repaired.Lung cancer is more
likely to develop as a result of these damages.
Smoking additionally causes loss of sight.Globally,
cataracts are the leading cause of blindness, according to
medical research. The standard lens of the eye becomes
blurry due to cataracts.According to studies, smokers are
twice as likely as nonsmokers to develop cataracts. The
retina, which is the part of the eye that is responsible for
the clear vision that people use while driving and reading,
is affected by age-related macular degeneration
(AMD).AMD has been identified as the most common
cause of permanent blindness in people over 65.AMD is
three times more likely to occur in smokers than in
nonsmokers, according to research. However, if one quits
smoking early, the damage to the eyes can be repaired;
however, smoking for an extended period of time causes
more damage to the eyes, resulting in permanent blindness.
Additionally, one of the main causes of type 2 diabetes is
smoking.Type-2 diabetes is likely in 40% of smokers,
according to research.Smokers with diabetes are more
likely to have trouble controlling their insulin levels
despite taking prescribed medications.Diabetes smokers
make it difficult to control the progression of the disease
and insulin levels, thereby increasing their chances of
dying from it. This is because increased smoking
increases the likelihood of developing type-2
diabetes.Other health issues associated with diabetes,
such as heart failure, kidney problems, high blood
pressure, retinopathy, and peripheral neuropathy, are
more likely to affect diabetic smokers.Quitting smoking
can help diabetics regulate insulin levels in their bodies.
Even more troubling is the fact that, out of all the causes
of death that can be avoided, smoking cigarettes is the
leading cause of death in the United States. The United
Kingdom is the same way.Cigarette smoking is
responsible for 480,000 deaths annually in the United
States alone, or 20% of all deaths annually. The annual
total of deaths from a combination of the following causes
is lower than the annual total of deaths from smoking
cigarettes:accidents involving firearms, injuries sustained
in motor vehicles, drinking, using illegal drugs, and
HIVThis further demonstrates the seriousness of the health risks posed by smoking.
Smoking is a common way of life for both young and old
people. The practice is done by people to have fun.One of
the main reasons why people smoke is peer pressure. The
way a parent raises their children also increases the
likelihood that they will smoke. Many people
underestimate the dangers that smoking poses to one's
health. Some of the negative health effects of this habit
include blindness, type-2 diabetes, and lung cancer.
