Exercise 5: You have just received an email from your English pen-friend, Tim, who is going to take a short training
course in your country. Read part of his email below.
Hi,
How are you? I hope your everything goes well. I am going to take a short training course in your country next
month. I'd like to spend my me vising you and your family, so what is the best way to travel from the airport
to your house? I need somewhere to live while I'm there. Is there any cheap hotel near your house? As you
know, my father is a coee addict. Can you tell me where I can buy some nice coee for him?
Write an email in reply to Tim.
Dear Tim,
I am very happy to receive your email. It's amazing that you come to my country. I will prepare a lot of delicious
food when you visit my family. It's quite far from the airport to my house. Can you give me a specic me, I will
go to the airport to pick you up. There are no hotels near my house. But fortunately, my house sll has a spare
room. If you don't mind, you can stay at my house and live with my family. If you stay at my house, it will be easy
for me to talk to you and introduce my country to you. The people here are very friendly and there is also a lot
of delicious food. I know your dad is a coee addict. I will take you to places that sell good coee so you can buy
it for Dad. I hope you will have many good memories in my country.
Hope to see you soon.
Best regards,
Jame
Exercise 6: You are helping to organize a visit to an English Language instute in the UK. You have received a
leer from Harris Parks, the director of the instute. Read part of the email.
‘’I am very glad to see that you are coming to our academy in July. I am sure you will all have a very enjoyable
me and that you will learn a lot of English. You can either stay all together in a youth hostel, or individually with
local families. Please tell me which you would prefer. Tell me something about your group so that I can organize
interesng spare me acvies. What sort of things do they like doing?
Please ask if you need any further informaon.
Yours sincerely,
Harris Parks’’
Dear Sir,
We've decided to go to your academy since we want to improve our English. Nowadays, learning English properly
is very important because it is essenal to search for a good job in our country or in a foreign country.
We think that it would be beer to stay individually with local families because we would have to listen and
answer in English, although it is perhaps a bit dicult for us. In a local family, we'll also learn the culture of the
country, which is so important too. For all these reasons, we would prefer to stay with a host family.
I wonder if you could tell us what's the weather like in UK in July. Is it very hot? How oen does it rain in summer?
Could you recommend to us what types of clothes we will need? Thank you in advance for your aenon and I
am looking forward to your reply. Yours faithfully,
Jame
Exercise 7: You received an email from your English friend, Harry. He asked for your advice on how to keep t.
Dear Harry,
I'm very happy to receive your leer. You asked me about some ways to keep t, didn't you?
Well, rst of all, you should have a balanced diet. Specically, let's add more green vegetables and fresh fruits
as well as cut down on meat or sh in the meals. Actually, it will keep your body in shape. I think it's unnecessary
to buy tness equipment because it's very expensive and you don't have me to use them, so I think just focus
on your diet.
Moreover, it's good for you if you sleep at least 8 hours per day. You know, you will have enough me to refresh
and recharge your mind.
Equally important, why don't you relax by listening to music or reading books in your free me?
I'm sure you'll feel more comfortable aer a hard-working day.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Love,
Jame
Exercise 8: You have recently applied for a job at a summer camp for children. : You have just received an email
from Ms. Khanh Iran, the leader of the Sunrise Camping Group., asking for more informaon about your
applicaon.....
Dear Ms. Khanh Iran,
I am applying to work as a “Camp Leaderat your summer camp, and I am condent that I have the required
qualicaons, credenals and skills to supervise the children and young people and keep them happy and safe,
while also coordinang all their acvies and developing new programs for them at the same me.
In the past, I worked with a large group of children at a local children’s club where I successfully helped them in
developing new skills and hobbies. And as far as my personality is concerned, I am fairly healthy and energec,
passionate about my responsibilies, and I never lose my paence that easily.
I want to work at My Khe beach because I have lived in the sea for many years, so I have a lot of experience in
handling unexpected situaons that may happen to children.
So, please consider me for the posion of 'camp leader' at your summer camp and see the dierence I make
with your children and youth.
I would be glad to hear a posive reply from you.
Yours faithfully,
Jame
Exercise 3: Nowadays an increasing number of high school students choose to go to universies. There is a lack
of skilled workers for the labor market.
Therefore students should be encouraged to go to vocaonal schools to learn skills which are of use for specic
job.
It is argued that more people should be encouraged to aend vocaonal training rather than go to university
with the current shortage of qualied workers. I agree with this view for several reasons.
Firstly, vocaonal training provides students with skills that are directly related to the industry in which they
intend to do business, which makes it easier for them to nd a job aer becoming qualied. For example, people
who are trained to be electrical engineers have the exact skills and knowledge needed for the profession, making
it easier for them to nd a job quickly and start making money. On the other hand, university graduates oen
lack many job-specic skills upon compleon of their course, which oen makes it dicult for them to nd
suitable employment.
Second, vocaonal training is oen shorter and much less expensive than university degrees. Vocaonal training
courses are typically completed in 12 months or less and equip trainees with the skills and knowledge to quickly
enter the workforce. However, university courses oen take 4-5 years to complete and do not always provide
students with job-ready skills, and in some cases, students need to complete the coursework. into advanced
training before being able to enter the workforce. In addion, the cost of vocaonal training is oen much
cheaper than university tuion and is oen subsidized by the government to speed up the labor supply process
to meet the needs of the labor market.
In summary, I believe that more people should be encouraged to parcipate in vocaonal training as it is oen
cheaper, faster and a more ecient route to employment.
Exercise 5: English is not only used as mere communicaon tool... However many people believe that english
will not the nave language but it is related to the culture of a country.
As global communicaon expands across the world, so does the need for a universal language. English is a
language used to communicate in many parts of the world. English is not only used as a normal communicaon
tool, but also used in business, foreign policy, tourism, entertainment, educaon and communicaon between
countries.
In this era of globalizaon, countries like China, Japan, and Russia, which have enthusiascally maintained and
promoted their languages, have today accepted the importance of the English language. In India, English is the
ocial language used for communicaon between dierent countries that have their own languages. It has
become a medium of instrucon in educaonal instuons. For higher educaon (eg medicine, engineering)
only English is used for teaching.
Although English is a relavely easy language to use and is used as a global communicaon tool, we should never
take our nave language lightly. We should all preserve our language, culture and heritage even as we learn
English. Language is not only a passive mirror of the surrounding life, but also interferes with the world picture
of personality, its language culture, and puts into it world vision. Like Vietnamese, it is clear, diverse, rich and
imbued with Vietnamese naonal identy. Vietnamese language is like the soul of the country, it is the identy,
the essence of the naon. The Vietnamese language contains a rich history, culture, customs and tradions of
the naon.
In short, English is very necessary and useful in today's life, but along with that, we must have a sense of
respecng and promong our mother tongue. If English replaces other languages all over the world it would
lose the linguisc and cultural diversity of this planet.
Exercise 3: Famous people of various kinds, including movie stars and royalty, are oen closely followed by the
press. There have been stories of journalists digging through garbage bins to nd lile bits of informaon on the
private lives of the rich and famous. Some press photographers try to take photographs of famous people in
their most private moments to sell to the world's media.
A celebrity will have many benets, but it will also have many drawbacks. If someone becomes famous, they will
lose their independence and would not be able to go out like other people since they would always be subject
to scruny.
When someone is famous, they will be noced and loved by everyone, praised by society, respected by
everyone, have great inuence in relaonships, are persuasive, and are trusted by everyone. For example, when
becoming a celebrity, there will be a lot of journalists and media focusing on them, people will become more
fullled, have to build a good image, be responsible to the community and society, do a lot of volunteer work
for the society. They are supported by a lot of people every me they do something.
On the other hand, celebrity has its drawbacks; when someone becomes too well-known, there will be a lot of
turmoil around them, and once you become a celebrity, everything you do may be seen by anybody including
personal acvies because journalists will constantly be following them day and night. For instance, wherever
you go, you also have to face the eyes of everyone. You have to be careful about everything as a celebrity. Even
in your love life, you are not comfortable. The next trouble is that celebries are easily aacked and cricized.
There are people who love and admire, there will certainly be people who hate. A person aer becoming famous
also becomes distant from everyone, always in an isolated, dominant posion and becomes the target of public
cricism and evaluaon.
In conclusion, there are always benets and drawbacks to becoming a celebrity.
Celebries must also face the dangers that come with their celebrity.
Exercise 2: Over the last twenty years, there has been a huge increase in the number of people who remain
single. Most people who live alone are young adults who postpone marriage into their late twenes, but some
are in their thires and fores. One reason they oen give for staying single is that they have not met the right
person. Others say that marriage involves too much commitment and responsibility, or that they prefer the
single lifestyle.
….The cause of this trend and possible eects of this trend to the society
Priorizing personal development, focusing on career, fear of lack of freedom and responsibility in marriage,
worries about raising children, nancial pressure as well as the impact of broken stories... are the main causes.
making young people increasingly unwilling to get married.
Nowadays, young people fear that marriage will make the relaonship complicated when it sll involves two
families. More than that, they are afraid that giving birth will make life more complicated, busier, more ring.
Therefore, young people choose for themselves the safe path, will not get married unl they are ready.
In addion, the reason for career development is also a factor for them to delay geng married. Adults say they
are interested in living freely, comfortably enjoying life, having more me to develop their career and taking care
of themselves. Most of all feel ne living alone.
Geng married too late or living a single life in young people also brings a lot of consequences to society.
Firstly, the unmarried young people create social burdens, aging populaon, lack of labor force and slow
economic development. In Asian countries, care for elderly parents used to be almost "default" for children. But
today, when young people don't want to get married, society will have to take care of them when they get old.
The government will have to spend a huge budget to take care of this object.
Second, late marriage causes many problems with childbirth. The older a woman gets, the harder it is for a
woman's body to give birth as easily as when she was younger. In parcular, the possibility of miscarriage,
premature birth, and children born with dangerous diseases such as Down, congenital heart disease,
malformaons ... are increasing.
In short, not geng married too early but spending youth studying and working, and dedicang to a career is a
great step forward for society. But geng married late or being single for the rest of your life also has many
consequences as menoned above.
Exercise 3: Involvement of young in crimes is increasing at an alarming rate. Recent gures show an increase in
violent crime among youngsters under the age of 18. Some psychologists claim that the basic reason for this is
that children these days are not geng the social and emoonal learning they need from parents and teachers.
…cause and suggest some soluons to this problem.
Currently, an alarming problem is that the rate of violent crime has increased signicantly, especially among
adolescents under the age of 18. Personally, I strongly agree that the failure of parents and teachers to provide
proper educaon are the main problems behind this situaon.
First, parents are increasingly busy with careers that limit opportunies for moral educaon for their children.
Moreover, there are many negave items such as violent movies, evil things from the Internet of crime that exist
all around us, without parental control, children are very easily inuenced by things. there.
Second, the modern educaon system forces students to achieve tangible achievements, rather than a moral
perspecve. For example, there was a girl in my high school who did very well in school. Although she oen
insults her classmates' feelings with vulgar words, she is constantly favored by her teachers for her good grades.
For those under the age of 18 who commit crimes, it is necessary to have separate legal policies, especially
soluons for prevenon and educaon. Renovang educaonal content and methods at school is a very
important environment for children to be aware of ethical and cultural values and have the opportunity to
pracce the knowledge they have learned. Moral educaon must be combined with legal educaon and life
skills for the comprehensive development of children; strengthening social management measures, especially
management in cyberspace; enhance the roles and responsibilies of families and local authories.
In conclusion, violent crime among young people seems to be an increasingly pressing problem today. Both
parents and teachers should take proacve measures to limit this problem by taking more care of their children's
upbringing and prevenng them from accessing violent computer games.
Task 1: You have received a leer from your English- speaking friend, Renate, who is planning to visit you
It was great to talk on the phone last week about my visit to your country. I’m sorry that you
won’t be home when I visit but its great that your brother can meet me at the airport and
let me stay at his house. As I have only 10 days, where would you recommend I visit? And
also what is the best way to travel? Is it expensive to hire a car?
One other thing, I’d like to bring your brother a present. What do you think he’d like? Maybe
he’d like some of my country’s chocolate

Dear Renate,
I am very happy to hear that you will be vising Vietnam for the rst me. It's summer now, so please bring a T-
shirt and shorts in your luggage.
Vietnam is a friendly country so you can travel anywhere you want. But I suggest you visit Nha Trang City and Da
Lat City. Nha Trang is a coastal city with a beauful coastline and many delicious seafood restaurants. On the
other hand, Da Lat city is located in the highlands, called "Flower City" because the locals grow a lot of beauful
owers, thanks to the warm weather here.
You should travel by car, it will be very convenient and safe for your trip and it's not too expensive for your 10
days in my country.
It is great that you stay at my brother's house because the people are very hospitable and nice. You can bring
some chocolate from your country, I bet they haven't tasted it yet. Unfortunately, I am on a business trip in
Thailand, so I cannot accompany you.
I hope you will enjoy your trip in Vietnam.
Best regard, Jame
Task 2: Obesity is a serious global in todays society, especially among young people. More than one-third of
adults and 17% of youth in the United States are obese, although the prevalence remained stable between 2003-
2004 and 2009-2010. Obesity causes a lot of condions including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and
certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.
… cause of obesity among young people and possible soluons.
Children's health is declining due to obesity around the world, even alarmingly in the wealthiest Western
countries. There are many causes to this problem and each problem needs to be handled in its own way.
Firstly, it seems dicult to address the leading factors leading to obesity trends in children due to the complex
lifestyles of people today. Junk food available in grocery stores and restaurants and even in school canteens
gives rise to this thorny problem. These fast foods are rich in calories, trans fats, high in sugar and contribute to
heart disease, diabetes, joint disorders and mental illnesses like depression.
Second, technological advances adversely aect our health due to inacvity and inacvity at the oce and at
home. At the oce, most people with this condion spend many hours sing in front of the computer without
any physical acvity.
In my opinion, teachers, parents and the government in general should treat this issue as a maer of urgency
and take the necessary steps to x it at every stage. For example, parents should monitor their child's eang
habits and ensure that they eat healthy foods while reducing the amount of junk food intake. The government
can contribute by introducing a ban on unhealthy items specially craed with children and young people in
mind. Healthy eang follows Dietary Guidelines that emphasizes a variety of vegetables and fruits, whole grains,
a variety of lean protein foods, and low-fat and fat-free dairy products.
In summary, although many countries today are falling vicm to unhealthy diets, we can ght and defeat this
threat with strong will and take some prevenve acons. prevenon as described above.
Task 1: You received an email from your American pen pal, Jack. He asked you for some informaon before going
to your country.
'' how are things? my semester has just nished and I am thinking of going to Vietnam to study Vietnamese. Are
there any Vietnamese courses for beginners at your school? Because I am a student, I don't have much money.
What kind of accommodaon is suitable for me stay for a month? Do you have any advice for me to improve my
Vietnamese skill ? ‘’
Dear Jack,
It's really nice to hear from you that. I am very happy to hear that you will study in my country. It's a pity that
my school doesn't have any Vietnamese language courses for foreigners, but I will refer you to some Vietnamese
teachers to help you.
You asked me about accommodaon where you can learn more Vietnamese. In my opinion, you should stay in
a university dormitory. This will be a great learning environment so that you can speak Vietnamese every day
with your friends, from which your Vietnamese skills are improved markedly. Moreover, the cost for you to stay
here for a month is really cheap so I think this is a perfect choice.
Regarding part-me jobs, why don't you teach English to children or working people? It's easy for you to get a
high salary. Besides, you can pracce speaking Vietnamese with your students because they are willing to talk
to you at recess.
I hope to see you soon in Vietnam. Please let me know if you have anything else.
Best wishes, Jame
Task 2: Online learning is a great, revoluonary alternave to tradional training. Online learning is a form of
distance learning that takes place over the Internet including online courses, exams, gamied quizzes, and
cercaon training. Some people believe that e-learning will replace tradional classes in the future.
… advantages and disadvantages of online learning.
In recent years, distance teaching and learning has become more and more popular among students and this is
perceived dierently by learners. Many students see these as a useful learning aid while others think they are
not as eecve as classroom instrucon. This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of distance
learning.
Studying an online course oers exible me and less budget study for students. They can study the desired
course and subject at the appropriate me. This provides a great opportunity for learners to gain new skills and
strengthen their knowledge level in their place. For example, a Vietnamese student who wants to get a Brish
degree in a business administraon course does not need to stay in the UK, he can study online and complete
the course right from his home. Therefore, distance learning is economical and saves me.
However, online courses focus more on theory and less on the interacon between teachers and students. It
lacks the praccal aspects of learning and encourages passive learning. This is very obvious when students see
it as a less eecve way of learning than in the classroom. A recent study found that many students nd
classroom instrucon much more eecve than distance learning.
To sum up, the increasing availability of online learning has been popular among young people for many years,
which is seen by many as benecial while others nd it less eecve. Emphasis can be placed on its eecveness
to establish it as the most costeecve way of learning compared to classroom instrucon.
Task 1: You have recently subscribed to a new magazine. A representave of a magazine has asked you to give
some feedback on their magazine. Write a leer to the representave of the magazine that includes the
following informaon:
- Detail of why you bought the magazine
- what you likes about the latest edion
- any improvements you would recommend
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am wring to express my feelings about one of your newest magazines. I believe you are on the right track
when it comes to asking your customers for their opinion on your recently released publicaon.
Honestly, the reason why I decided to buy the magazine is its beauful cover and useful details. Headings are
typed in a prominent font and candidly convey the main content in them. Basically, those magazine pages really
met my needs at the me.
One of the things I like the most is the informaon that the writer put in, which is extremely praccal and helpful.
In addion, not only the content but also the illustraons made a strong impression on my eyes. I think the
ingenuity in selecng and matching each image to the subject maer played a key role in increasing its
readership.
In my opinion, there is no fault in your product, it is absolutely perfect. I recommend that you connue to
produce magazines with a wide range of topics and focus on improving the quality of the content day by day.
I hope that my comments and recommendaons help you somehow.
Your faithfully,
James
Task 2: Nowadays, many people choose to be self-employed rather than work for a company. Why might this be
the case? What could be the disadvantages of being selfemployed?
Today, more and more individuals are choosing to work for themselves rather than work for businesses. I believe
individuals choose to start their own businesses because the corporate world has less work/life balance or
because rules and regulaons are imposed. While there are some perks of being self-employed, there are a few
things about being self-employed that can cause a lot of stress for an individual.
The main reason that encourages people to opt for self-employment is the freedom that comes with it. If a
person is self-employed, he has the freedom to choose his working hours and plan his schedule. Moreover, a
private business can make a huge amount of money for an individual, securing the future. Since self-employment
also oers the possibility of greater nancial rewards, the prots are not shared with the employer.
However, being your own boss can be exhausng and stressful. A self-employed individual should be disciplined
enough not to miss deadlines. By missing important goals and deadlines, individuals can suer nancial losses
and bear all the consequences on their own. Self-employed individuals are also responsible for all aspects of
their work, from accounng to markeng to customer service, which can be overwhelming and me-consuming.
In addion, there may be fewer opportunies for professional development than working for a company with
established training programs and career paths.
In conclusion, I think working for yourself is denitely benecial as it allows them to work on a exible schedule
with their own terms and condions. But in the end, they may fail if they fail to achieve the set goals. Therefore,
an individual should be aware of the pros and cons of self-employment before venturing into it.

Exercise 5: You have just received an email from your English pen-friend, Tim, who is going to take a short training
course in your country. Read part of his email below. Hi,
How are you? I hope your everything goes well. I am going to take a short training course in your country next
month. I'd like to spend my time visiting you and your family, so what is the best way to travel from the airport
to your house? I need somewhere to live while I'm there. Is there any cheap hotel near your house? As you
know, my father is a coffee addict. Can you tell me where I can buy some nice coffee for him?
Write an email in reply to Tim. Dear Tim,
I am very happy to receive your email. It's amazing that you come to my country. I will prepare a lot of delicious
food when you visit my family. It's quite far from the airport to my house. Can you give me a specific time, I will
go to the airport to pick you up. There are no hotels near my house. But fortunately, my house still has a spare
room. If you don't mind, you can stay at my house and live with my family. If you stay at my house, it will be easy
for me to talk to you and introduce my country to you. The people here are very friendly and there is also a lot
of delicious food. I know your dad is a coffee addict. I will take you to places that sell good coffee so you can buy
it for Dad. I hope you will have many good memories in my country. Hope to see you soon. Best regards, Jame
Exercise 6: You are helping to organize a visit to an English Language institute in the UK. You have received a
letter from Harris Parks, the director of the institute. Read part of the email.
‘’I am very glad to see that you are coming to our academy in July. I am sure you will all have a very enjoyable

local families. Please tell me which you would prefer. Tell me something about your group so that I can organize
interesting spare time activities. What sort of things do they like doing?
Please ask if you need any further information. Yours sincerely, Harris Parks’’ Dear Sir,
We've decided to go to your academy since we want to improve our English. Nowadays, learning English properly
is very important because it is essential to search for a good job in our country or in a foreign country.
We think that it would be better to stay individually with local families because we would have to listen and
answer in English, although it is perhaps a bit difficult for us. In a local family, we'll also learn the culture of the
country, which is so important too. For all these reasons, we would prefer to stay with a host family.
I wonder if you could tell us what's the weather like in UK in July. Is it very hot? How often does it rain in summer?
Could you recommend to us what types of clothes we will need? Thank you in advance for your attention and I
am looking forward to your reply. Yours faithfully, Jame
Exercise 7: You received an email from your English friend, Harry. He asked for your advice on how to keep fit. Dear Harry,
I'm very happy to receive your letter. You asked me about some ways to keep fit, didn't you?
Well, first of all, you should have a balanced diet. Specifically, let's add more green vegetables and fresh fruits
as well as cut down on meat or fish in the meals. Actually, it will keep your body in shape. I think it's unnecessary
to buy fitness equipment because it's very expensive and you don't have time to use them, so I think just focus on your diet.
Moreover, it's good for you if you sleep at least 8 hours per day. You know, you will have enough time to refresh and recharge your mind.
Equally important, why don't you relax by listening to music or reading books in your free time?
I'm sure you'll feel more comfortable after a hard-working day.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon. Love, Jame
Exercise 8: You have recently applied for a job at a summer camp for children. : You have just received an email
from Ms. Khanh Iran, the leader of the Sunrise Camping Group., asking for more information about your application..... Dear Ms. Khanh Iran,
I am applying to work as a “Camp Leader” at your summer camp, and I am confident that I have the required
qualifications, credentials and skills to supervise the children and young people and keep them happy and safe,
while also coordinating all their activities and developing new programs for them at the same time.
In the past, I worked with a large group of children at a local children’s club where I successfully helped them in
developing new skills and hobbies. And as far as my personality is concerned, I am fairly healthy and energetic,
passionate about my responsibilities, and I never lose my patience that easily.
I want to work at My Khe beach because I have lived in the sea for many years, so I have a lot of experience in
handling unexpected situations that may happen to children.
So, please consider me for the position of 'camp leader' at your summer camp and see the difference I make with your children and youth.
I would be glad to hear a positive reply from you. Yours faithfully, Jame
Exercise 3: Nowadays an increasing number of high school students choose to go to universities. There is a lack
of skilled workers for the labor market.
Therefore students should be encouraged to go to vocational schools to learn skills which are of use for specific job.
It is argued that more people should be encouraged to attend vocational training rather than go to university
with the current shortage of qualified workers. I agree with this view for several reasons.
Firstly, vocational training provides students with skills that are directly related to the industry in which they
intend to do business, which makes it easier for them to find a job after becoming qualified. For example, people
who are trained to be electrical engineers have the exact skills and knowledge needed for the profession, making
it easier for them to find a job quickly and start making money. On the other hand, university graduates often
lack many job-specific skills upon completion of their course, which often makes it difficult for them to find suitable employment.
Second, vocational training is often shorter and much less expensive than university degrees. Vocational training
courses are typically completed in 12 months or less and equip trainees with the skills and knowledge to quickly
enter the workforce. However, university courses often take 4-5 years to complete and do not always provide
students with job-ready skills, and in some cases, students need to complete the coursework. into advanced
training before being able to enter the workforce. In addition, the cost of vocational training is often much
cheaper than university tuition and is often subsidized by the government to speed up the labor supply process
to meet the needs of the labor market.
In summary, I believe that more people should be encouraged to participate in vocational training as it is often
cheaper, faster and a more efficient route to employment.
Exercise 5: English is not only used as mere communication tool... However many people believe that english
will not the native language but it is related to the culture of a country.
As global communication expands across the world, so does the need for a universal language. English is a
language used to communicate in many parts of the world. English is not only used as a normal communication
tool, but also used in business, foreign policy, tourism, entertainment, education and communication between countries.
In this era of globalization, countries like China, Japan, and Russia, which have enthusiastically maintained and
promoted their languages, have today accepted the importance of the English language. In India, English is the
official language used for communication between different countries that have their own languages. It has
become a medium of instruction in educational institutions. For higher education (eg medicine, engineering)
only English is used for teaching.
Although English is a relatively easy language to use and is used as a global communication tool, we should never
take our native language lightly. We should all preserve our language, culture and heritage even as we learn
English. Language is not only a passive mirror of the surrounding life, but also interferes with the world picture
of personality, its language culture, and puts into it world vision. Like Vietnamese, it is clear, diverse, rich and
imbued with Vietnamese national identity. Vietnamese language is like the soul of the country, it is the identity,
the essence of the nation. The Vietnamese language contains a rich history, culture, customs and traditions of the nation.
In short, English is very necessary and useful in today's life, but along with that, we must have a sense of
respecting and promoting our mother tongue. If English replaces other languages all over the world it would
lose the linguistic and cultural diversity of this planet.
Exercise 3: Famous people of various kinds, including movie stars and royalty, are often closely followed by the
press. There have been stories of journalists digging through garbage bins to find little bits of information on the
private lives of the rich and famous. Some press photographers try to take photographs of famous people in
their most private moments to sell to the world's media.
A celebrity will have many benefits, but it will also have many drawbacks. If someone becomes famous, they will
lose their independence and would not be able to go out like other people since they would always be subject to scrutiny.
When someone is famous, they will be noticed and loved by everyone, praised by society, respected by
everyone, have great influence in relationships, are persuasive, and are trusted by everyone. For example, when
becoming a celebrity, there will be a lot of journalists and media focusing on them, people will become more
fulfilled, have to build a good image, be responsible to the community and society, do a lot of volunteer work
for the society. They are supported by a lot of people every time they do something.
On the other hand, celebrity has its drawbacks; when someone becomes too well-known, there will be a lot of
turmoil around them, and once you become a celebrity, everything you do may be seen by anybody including
personal activities because journalists will constantly be following them day and night. For instance, wherever
you go, you also have to face the eyes of everyone. You have to be careful about everything as a celebrity. Even
in your love life, you are not comfortable. The next trouble is that celebrities are easily attacked and criticized.
There are people who love and admire, there will certainly be people who hate. A person after becoming famous
also becomes distant from everyone, always in an isolated, dominant position and becomes the target of public criticism and evaluation.
In conclusion, there are always benefits and drawbacks to becoming a celebrity.
Celebrities must also face the dangers that come with their celebrity.
Exercise 2: Over the last twenty years, there has been a huge increase in the number of people who remain
single. Most people who live alone are young adults who postpone marriage into their late twenties, but some
are in their thirties and forties. One reason they often give for staying single is that they have not met the right
person. Others say that marriage involves too much commitment and responsibility, or that they prefer the single lifestyle.
….The cause of this trend and possible effects of this trend to the society
Prioritizing personal development, focusing on career, fear of lack of freedom and responsibility in marriage,
worries about raising children, financial pressure as well as the impact of broken stories... are the main causes.
making young people increasingly unwilling to get married.
Nowadays, young people fear that marriage will make the relationship complicated when it still involves two
families. More than that, they are afraid that giving birth will make life more complicated, busier, more tiring.
Therefore, young people choose for themselves the safe path, will not get married until they are ready.
In addition, the reason for career development is also a factor for them to delay getting married. Adults say they
are interested in living freely, comfortably enjoying life, having more time to develop their career and taking care
of themselves. Most of all feel fine living alone.
Getting married too late or living a single life in young people also brings a lot of consequences to society.
Firstly, the unmarried young people create social burdens, aging population, lack of labor force and slow
economic development.
In particular, the possibility of miscarriage,
premature birth, and children born with dangerous diseases such as Down, congenital heart disease,
malformations ... are increasing.
In short, not getting married too early but spending youth studying and working, and dedicating to a career is a
great step forward for society. But getting married late or being single for the rest of your life also has many
consequences as mentioned above.
Exercise 3: Involvement of young in crimes is increasing at an alarming rate. Recent figures show an increase in
violent crime among youngsters under the age of 18. Some psychologists claim that the basic reason for this is
that children these days are not getting the social and emotional learning they need from parents and teachers.
…cause and suggest some solutions to this problem.
Currently, an alarming problem is that the rate of violent crime has increased significantly, especially among
adolescents under the age of 18. Personally, I strongly agree that the failure of parents and teachers to provide
proper education are the main problems behind this situation.
First, parents are increasingly busy with careers that limit opportunities for moral education for their children.
Moreover, there are many negative items such as violent movies, evil things from the Internet of crime that exist
all around us, without parental control, children are very easily influenced by things. there.
Second, the modern education system forces students to achieve tangible achievements, rather than a moral
perspective. For example, there was a girl in my high school who did very well in school. Although she often
insults her classmates' feelings with vulgar words, she is constantly favored by her teachers for her good grades.
For those under the age of 18 who commit crimes, it is necessary to have separate legal policies, especially
solutions for prevention and education. Renovating educational content and methods at school is a very
important environment for children to be aware of ethical and cultural values and have the opportunity to
practice the knowledge they have learned. Moral education must be combined with legal education and life
skills for the comprehensive development of children; strengthening social management measures, especially
management in cyberspace; enhance the roles and responsibilities of families and local authorities.
In conclusion, violent crime among young people seems to be an increasingly pressing problem today. Both
parents and teachers should take proactive measures to limit this problem by taking more care of their children's
upbringing and preventing them from accessing violent computer games.
Task 1: You have received a letter from your English- speaking friend, Renate, who is planning to visit you
It was great to talk on the phone last week about my visit to your country. I’m sorry that you
won’t be home when I visit but it’s great that your brother can meet me at the airport and
let me stay at his house. As I have only 10 days, where would you recommend I visit? And
also what is the best way to travel? Is it expensive to hire a car?
One other thing, I’d like to bring your brother a present. What do you think he’d like? Maybe
he’d like some of my country’s chocolate

I am very happy to hear that you will be visiting Vietnam for the first time. It's summer now, so please bring a T-
shirt and shorts in your luggage.
Vietnam is a friendly country so you can travel anywhere you want. But I suggest you visit Nha Trang City and Da
Lat City. Nha Trang is a coastal city with a beautiful coastline and many delicious seafood restaurants. On the
other hand, Da Lat city is located in the highlands, called "Flower City" because the locals grow a lot of beautiful
flowers, thanks to the warm weather here.
You should travel by car, it will be very convenient and safe for your trip and it's not too expensive for your 10 days in my country.
Task 2: Obesity is a serious global in today’s society, especially among young people. More than one-third of
adults and 17% of youth in the United States are obese, although the prevalence remained stable between 2003-
2004 and 2009-2010. Obesity causes a lot of conditions including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and
certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.
… cause of obesity among young people and possible solutions.
Children's health is declining due to obesity around the world, even alarmingly in the wealthiest Western
countries. There are many causes to this problem and each problem needs to be handled in its own way.
Firstly, it seems difficult to address the leading factors leading to obesity trends in children due to the complex
lifestyles of people today. Junk food available in grocery stores and restaurants and even in school canteens
gives rise to this thorny problem. These fast foods are rich in calories, trans fats, high in sugar and contribute to
heart disease, diabetes, joint disorders and mental illnesses like depression.
Second, technological advances adversely affect our health due to inactivity and inactivity at the office and at
home. At the office, most people with this condition spend many hours sitting in front of the computer without any physical activity.
In my opinion, teachers, parents and the government in general should treat this issue as a matter of urgency
and take the necessary steps to fix it at every stage. For example, parents should monitor their child's eating
habits and ensure that they eat healthy foods while reducing the amount of junk food intake. The government
can contribute by introducing a ban on unhealthy items specially crafted with children and young people in
mind. Healthy eating follows Dietary Guidelines that emphasizes a variety of vegetables and fruits, whole grains,
a variety of lean protein foods, and low-fat and fat-free dairy products.
In summary, although many countries today are falling victim to unhealthy diets, we can fight and defeat this
threat with strong will and take some preventive actions. prevention as described above.
Task 1: You received an email from your American pen pal, Jack. He asked you for some information before going to your country.
'' how are things? my semester has just finished and I am thinking of going to Vietnam to study Vietnamese. Are
there any Vietnamese courses for beginners at your school? Because I am a student, I don't have much money.
What kind of accommodation is suitable for me stay for a month? Do you have any advice for me to improve my Vietnamese skill ? ‘’ Dear Jack,
It's really nice to hear from you that. I am very happy to hear that you will study in my country. It's a pity that
my school doesn't have any Vietnamese language courses for foreigners, but I will refer you to some Vietnamese teachers to help you.
You asked me about accommodation where you can learn more Vietnamese.
Regarding part-time jobs, why don't you teach English to children or working people? It's easy for you to get a
high salary. Besides, you can practice speaking Vietnamese with your students because they are willing to talk to you at recess.
I hope to see you soon in Vietnam. Please let me know if you have anything else. Best wishes, Jame
Task 2: Online learning is a great, revolutionary alternative to traditional training. Online learning is a form of
distance learning that takes place over the Internet including online courses, exams, gamified quizzes, and
certification training. Some people believe that e-learning will replace traditional classes in the future.
… advantages and disadvantages of online learning.
In recent years, distance teaching and learning has become more and more popular among students and this is
perceived differently by learners. Many students see these as a useful learning aid while others think they are
not as effective as classroom instruction. This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of distance learning.
Studying an online course offers flexible time and less budget study for students. They can study the desired
course and subject at the appropriate time. This provides a great opportunity for learners to gain new skills and
strengthen their knowledge level in their place. For example, a Vietnamese student who wants to get a British
degree in a business administration course does not need to stay in the UK, he can study online and complete
the course right from his home. Therefore, distance learning is economical and saves time.
However, online courses focus more on theory and less on the interaction between teachers and students. It
lacks the practical aspects of learning and encourages passive learning. This is very obvious when students see
it as a less effective way of learning than in the classroom. A recent study found that many students find
classroom instruction much more effective than distance learning.
To sum up, the increasing availability of online learning has been popular among young people for many years,
which is seen by many as beneficial while others find it less effective. Emphasis can be placed on its effectiveness
to establish it as the most costeffective way of learning compared to classroom instruction.
Task 1: You have recently subscribed to a new magazine. A representative of a magazine has asked you to give
some feedback on their magazine. Write a letter to the representative of the magazine that includes the following information:
- Detail of why you bought the magazine
- what you likes about the latest edition
- any improvements you would recommend Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my feelings about one of your newest magazines. I believe you are on the right track
when it comes to asking your customers for their opinion on your recently released publication.
Honestly, the reason why I decided to buy the magazine is its beautiful cover and useful details. Headings are
typed in a prominent font and candidly convey the main content in them. Basically, those magazine pages really met my needs at the time.
One of the things I like the most is the information that the writer put in, which is extremely practical and helpful.
In addition, not only the content but also the illustrations made a strong impression on my eyes. I think the
ingenuity in selecting and matching each image to the subject matter played a key role in increasing its readership.
In my opinion, there is no fault in your product, it is absolutely perfect. I recommend that you continue to
produce magazines with a wide range of topics and focus on improving the quality of the content day by day.
I hope that my comments and recommendations help you somehow. Your faithfully, James
Task 2: Nowadays, many people choose to be self-employed rather than work for a company. Why might this be
the case? What could be the disadvantages of being selfemployed?
Today, more and more individuals are choosing to work for themselves rather than work for businesses. I believe
individuals choose to start their own businesses because the corporate world has less work/life balance or
because rules and regulations are imposed.
Since self-employment
also offers the possibility of greater financial rewards, the profits are not shared with the employer.
However, being your own boss can be exhausting and stressful. A self-employed individual should be disciplined
enough not to miss deadlines. By missing important goals and deadlines, individuals can suffer financial losses
and bear all the consequences on their own. Self-employed individuals are also responsible for all aspects of
their work, from accounting to marketing to customer service, which can be overwhelming and time-consuming.
In addition, there may be fewer opportunities for professional development than working for a company with
established training programs and career paths.
In conclusion, I think working for yourself is definitely beneficial as it allows them to work on a flexible schedule
with their own terms and conditions. But in the end, they may fail if they fail to achieve the set goals. Therefore,
an individual should be aware of the pros and cons of self-employment before venturing into it.
