II. Discussion
There are several ways to express future time in English. Here are some of the most
common
ones:
- “Will" + Base Verb (Simple Future): This is the most straightforward way to express future
actions or events.
Example: "She will start her new job next Monday.”
- “Be going to" + Base Verb: Often used for plans or intentions, especially when the decision
has already been made. It can also be used for predictions based on present evidence.
Example (plan): “We are going to move to a new apartment next month.”
Example (prediction): “Watch out! That glass is going to fall.”
- Present Continuous (with future time reference): Used for arrangements or plans that are
already fixed or scheduled.
Example: "I am meeting my teacher after school tomorrow.”
- Simple Present (with future time reference): Used for fixed schedules, timetables, or events
that are part of a routine.
Example: "The plane departs at 6 PM.”
- Future Continuous ("will be" + -ing form): Used to describe an action that will be in progress
at a particular time in the future.
Example: "At this time tomorrow, I will be studying for my exam.”
