How do children learn about wildlife? And is what they learn the sort of thing they should be
learning? It is my belief that children should not just be acquiring knowledge of animals but also
developing attitudes and feelings towards them based on exposure to the real lives of animals in
their natural habitats. But is this happening?
Some research in this area indicates that it is not. Learning about animals in school is often
completely disconnected from the real lives of real animals, with the result that children often end
up with little or no understanding or lasting knowledge of them. They learn factual information
about animals, aimed at enabling them to identify them and have various abstract ideas about them,
but that is the extent of their learning. Children’s storybooks tend to personify animals as characters rather than teach about them.
For direct contact with wild and international animals, the only opportunity most children have
is visiting a zoo. The educational benefit of this for children is often given as the main reason for
doing it but research has shown that zoo visits seldom add to children’s knowledge of animals - the
animals are simply like exhibits in a museum that the children look at without engaging with them as living creatures.
Research has also been done into the attitudes of children towards animals. It shows that in
general terms, children form strong attachments to individual animals, usually their pets, but do not
have strong feelings for animals in general. This attitude is the norm regardless of the amount or
kind of learning about animals they have at school. However, those children who watch television
wildlife programmes show an interest in and affection for wildlife in its natural environment, and
their regard for animals in general is higher.

The Importance of Environmental Conservation
In today's rapidly changing world, the importance of environmental conservation cannot be
overstated. Our planet's ecosystems, which have evolved over millions of years, are now facing
unprecedented threats from human activities. Deforestation, pollution, climate change, and the loss
of biodiversity are just a few of the critical issues that need urgent attention.
Forests, often referred to as the lungs of the Earth, play a crucial role in absorbing carbon
dioxide and producing oxygen. They also provide habitat for countless species of wildlife.
However, extensive logging and land conversion for agriculture are leading to deforestation at an
alarming rate. This not only contributes to climate change but also endangers species that depend on these forests for survival.
Pollution, another significant environmental challenge, affects air, water, and soil quality.
Industrial activities, vehicular emissions, and improper waste disposal are major contributors
to environmental degradation. Pollutants can harm human health, disrupt ecosystems, and threaten the survival of many species.
Climate change, driven by greenhouse gas emissions, is altering weather patterns,
melting ice caps, and raising sea levels. These changes impact agriculture, water resources, and
natural habitats, posing a threat to both human societies and wildlife.
Addressing these environmental issues requires global cooperation and individual action.
Emphasizing sustainable practices, reducing waste, conserving energy, and protecting natural
habitats are essential steps towards a healthier planet. By prioritizing environmental conservation,
we can work towards a more balanced and resilient ecosystem for future generations. Trang 3

Modern technologies have changed the way that people communicate with one another.
These technologies provide new and innovative ways for people to communicate text messaging,
email, chat and social networks. They allow faster and more efficient communication and can help
build relationships. However, modern technologies can also have negative effects such as limiting
personal contact and straining relationships. The nature of the effect depends in large part on the type of relationship.
Modern technologies limit the amount of separation between work and home. With the
advent of computers, the Internet and cell phones people can and are often expected to address
work issues from home. This can limit family interactions and cause conflict between family
members. The use of Internet and television by children and teenagers also limits the amount time
spent with family and can increase conflict between children and their parents.
Young people use modern technologies in increasing numbers to communicate with their
friends. Text messaging and online chats have become the preferred method of youth
communication. A California State University and UCLA study indicates that for young people
face-to-face interactions are less desirable than modern modes of communication. This preference
could cause an inability to form lasting friendships or difficulty understanding social cues. Others
believe that modern technologies increase communication and therefore strengthen friendships. Trang 6
Starting new relationships romantic and otherwise can be difficult. Modern technologies
allow people to make new connections without the fears characteristic of face-to-face contact. The
anonymity and low risk are what makes Internet dating and social networks popular ways of
meeting people. However, this anonymity can also be dangerous. In April 2011, a woman sued an
online dating site after allegedly being raped by a man she met online.
Modern technologies allow couples to be in contact with each other more than ever before.
This can lead to increased expectations and conflict. With the increasing use of cell phones and
email, people often expect an instant reply to communication. A delayed reply or none at all can
lead to suspicion and anger. The use of social networks can also affect relationships. Information
that was once private such as relationship conflicts is now part of the public sphere. (360 words) (Adapted from

There are many mistakes that people make when writing their resume (CV) or completing a
job application. Here are some of the most common and most serious.
The biggest problem is perhaps listing the duties for which you were responsible in a past
position, all this tells your potential employers is what you were supposed to do. They do not
necessarily know the specific skills you used in executing them, nor do they know what results you
achieved - both of which are essential. In short, they won’t know if you were the best, the worst or
just average in your position.
The more concrete information you can include, the better. As far as possible, provide
measurements of what you accomplished. If any innovations you introduced saved the organization
money, how much did they save? If you found a way of increasing productivity, by what percentage did you increase it?
Writing what you are trying to achieve in life - your objective - is a waste of space. It tells
the employer what you are interested in. Do you really think that employers care what you want?
No, they are interested in what they want! Instead, use that space for a career summary. A good one
is brief - three to four sentences long. A good one will make the person reviewing your application want to read further.
Many resumes list “hard” job-specific skills, almost to the exclusion of transferable, or
“soft”, skills. However, your ability to negotiate effectively, for example, can be just as important as your technical skills.
All information you give should be relevant, so carefully consider the job for which you are
applying. If you are applying for a job that is somewhat different than your current job, it is up to Trang 10
you to draw a connection for the resume reviewer, so that they will understand how your skills will
fit in their organization. The person who reviews your paperwork will not be a mind reader.
If you are modest about the skills you can offer, or the results you have achieved, a resume
reader may take what you write literally, and be left with a low opinion of your ability, you need to
say exactly how good you are. On the other hand, of course, never stretch the truth or lie.
3.1. What topic does the passage mainly discuss?

D. The information interviewees present should be related to the job they are applying.

Ví dụ 4. Read the following passage and mark the answer A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to

Motivating employees is easier in a growing organization due to more promotional
opportunities, pay rises, and a positive atmosphere. Conversely, shrinking organizations struggle
with losing skilled employees and managing low morale, as those who stay worry about job
security. Productivity often decreases during downsizing because employees focus on rumors and
support rather than work. Management must find ways to motivate staff under these adverse
conditions, which can be addressed through the following key points.
There is an abundance of evidence to support the motivational benefits that result from
carefully matching people to jobs. For example, if the job is running a small business or an
autonomous unit within a larger business, high achievers should be sought. However, if the job to be
filled is a managerial post in a large bureaucratic organization, a candidate who has a high need for
power and a low need for affiliation should be selected. Accordingly, high achievers should not be
put into jobs that are inconsistent with their needs. High achievers will do best when the job
provides moderately challenging goals and where there is independence and feedback. Trang 11
However, it should be remembered that not everybody is motivated by jobs that are high in
independence, variety and responsibility.
The literature on goal-setting theory suggests that managers should ensure that all employees
have specific goals and receive comments on how well they are doing in those goals. For those with
high achievement needs, typically a minority in any organization, the existence of external goals is
less important because high achievers are already internally motivated. The next factor to be
determined is whether the goals should be assigned by a manager or collectively set in
conjunction with the employee. The answer to that depends on perception.
(Adapt from IELTS Cambridge 6)

Virtual reality (VR) is a rapidly evolving technology that is finding its way into various
fields, including education. By creating immersive, interactive environments, VR has the potential
to revolutionize the way we learn and teach. This technology allows students to experience and
interact with subjects in a way that is not possible with traditional teaching methods.
One of the most promising applications of VR in education is in the teaching of science and
engineering. For example, students can use VR to explore the inside of a cell, examine the structure
of a molecule, or even simulate chemical reactions. This hands-on experience helps to deepen their Trang 14
understanding of complex concepts and can make learning more engaging and enjoyable. Moreover,
VR can be used to conduct virtual field trips to historical sites, museums, or even outer space,
providing students with opportunities to explore places they might never be able to visit in person.
VR also has the potential to enhance special education. Students with learning disabilities or
those on the autism spectrum can benefit from personalized VR environments tailored to their
specific needs. These environments can provide a safe space for students to practice social
interactions, develop life skills, and learn at their own pace. Additionally, VR can help bridge the
gap between different learning styles by providing visual, auditory, and kinesthetic experiences that
cater to a wider range of students.
However, the integration of VR into education is not without challenges. High costs,
technical issues, and the need for teacher training are significant barriers to widespread adoption.
Schools must invest in VR equipment and ensure that teachers are adequately prepared to
incorporate this technology into their lessons. Despite these challenges, the potential benefits of VR
in education are immense, and ongoing advancements in technology are likely to make it more
accessible in the near future. (302 words)

Sustainable urban development seeks to reverse the effects of deterioration in the
ecosystem due to human activities through cities and raise urban living standards. By addressing
issues such as pollution, resource depletion, and habitat destruction, sustainable urban
development seeks to restore natural ecosystems and enhance biodiversity within urban areas.
Creating livable cities, which is desired to be achieved through sustainable urban development,
will be possible by planning ecosystem services and ensuring the continuity of these services.
The primary goal of the sustainable city approach is to create a healthy urban ecosystem
planned with an ecosystem approach. Improving public health by creating a livable environment
with a healthy ecosystem is another important goal of sustainability. In this sense, providing
healthy and livable environments and ensuring the participation of the public in sustainability will
create positive effects in the implementation of the sustainable city approach. At the same time, a
healthy ecosystem and community participation allows for the creation of a sustainable economy.
Thus, the environmental, social and economic sustainability expected from sustainable cities will be achieved.
Many encouraging sustainable city criteria have been prepared for cities that aim to
develop with the ecosystem approach. In this sense, sustainable city criteria define the ecosystem
services offered by urban green spaces. The relationship between sustainable city criteria and
urban green spaces is very important for the creation of a sustainable city.
Urban green spaces and sustainable cities have a common ground in the sustainability goal.
In a city, these two structures that make up the combination of sustainability are a combination set
covering each other. Suppose urban green spaces and sustainable cities are considered separately
from each other. In that case, it will cause sustainable urban development to be interrupted and the
efforts made on sustainability to be insufficient.

Each advance in microscopic technique has provided scientists with new perspective, on the
function of living organisms and the nature of matter itself. The invention of the visible-light
microscope late in the sixteenth century introduced a previously unknown realm of single-celled
plants and animals. In the twentieth century, electron microscopes have provided direct views of
viruses and minuscule surface structures. Now another type of microscope, one that utilizes X rays
rather than light or electrons, offers a different way of examining tiny details; it should extend
human perception still farther into the natural world.
The dream of building an X-ray microscope dates to 1895; its development, however, was
virtually hafted in the 1940's because the development of the electron microscope was progressing
rapidly. During the 1940's electron microscopes routinely achieved resolution better than that
possible with a visible-light microscope, while the performance of X-ray microscopes resisted
improvement. In recent years, however, interest in X-ray microscopes has revived, largely because
of advances such as the development of new sources of X-ray illumination. As a result, the
brightness available today is millions of times that of X-ray tubes, which, for most of the century,
were the only available sources of soft X-rays.
The new X-ray microscopes considerably improve on the resolution provided by optical
microscopes. They can also be used to map the distribution of certain chemical elements. Some can
form pictures in extremely short times; others hold the promise of special capabilities such as three-
dimensional imaging. Unlike conventional electron microscopy, X-ray microscopy enables
specimens to be kept in air and in water, which means that biological samples can be studied under
conditions similar to their natural state. The illumination used, so-called soft X rays in the
wavelength range of twenty to forty angstroms (an angstrom is one ten-billionth of a meter), is also
sufficiently penetrating to image intact biological cells in many cases. Because of the wavelength of
the X rays used, soft X-ray microscopes will never match the highest resolution possible with
electron microscopes. Rather, their special properties will make possible investigations that will
complement those performed with light- and electron-based instruments. (353 words) Adapted from:

Green living, a crucial aspect of contemporary environmentalism, embodies the commitment
to adopting practices that minimize harm to the environment. Individuals who embrace green living
often strive to reduce their carbon footprint through actions such as recycling, conserving energy,
and choosing sustainable products. This lifestyle not only benefits the planet but also promotes a healthier way of living.
The inclination towards green living typically begins with small changes, such as
reducing single-use plastics and increasing recycling efforts. Over time, these actions can evolve
into more significant commitments, like using renewable energy sources or adopting a zero-waste
lifestyle. The motivation behind these changes often stems from a growing awareness of
environmental issues and a desire to contribute positively to the planet's health.
While the benefits of green living are numerous, including improved personal health
and environmental preservation, it also poses challenges. Transitioning to a greener lifestyle can
be expensive and time-consuming, and it often requires access to sustainable alternatives that may
not be readily available in all areas. Moreover, the effort to live sustainably can sometimes be
overwhelming, leading to burnout or discouragement. Trang 20
