Read the passage and choose the best answer to complete each question (1.25pt)
The generation gap refers to the difference in attitudes or behaviour between a younger generation
and the older one. In my opinion, different attitudes towards life, different views about certain problems, and
a lack of communication can cause a generation gap in most societies.
The first factor is that parents and children generally see things from different perspectives.
Choosing a career is a good example for this. Many parents try to impose certain careers they favour on their
children, based on their own perceptions. However, young people don’t always understand their parents’
points of views. Instead, they prefer to be free to make their own decisions on their future career.
Another factor lies in differences in musical tastes, fashion, and political views between young
people and their parents. For example, having a pierced nose might be viewed as fashionable by some teens,
but for many parents, it is considered to be an act of rebellion against social norms. Some parents may also
find their children’s behaviour unacceptable and disrespectful to traditional values.
The major factor causing the generation gap is the lack of communication between parents and their
children. Parents tend to be dominant and not to trust their children to deal with crises. Also, they keep
talking too much about certain problems. That is the reason why young people seldom reveal their feelings
to their parents. When facing problems, young people prefer to seek help from their classmates or friends.
The above mentioned factors could lead to a generation gap. In order to bridge the gap between the
old generation and the younger one, mutual understanding is the vital key. The wisest solution would be for
parents and their children to treat each other as friends.
Câu 9: What do young people often do when they face problems?
A. They ask their parents for help. B. They ask their classmates or friends for help.
C. They ask their siblings for help D. They share the problems with their parents.
Câu 10: How do young people usually react when their parents impose career choices on them?
A. They don’t follow their parents’ advice. B. They try to understand their parents will.
C. They follow their parents’ advice. D. They want to make their own decisions.
Câu 11: How many causes of the generation gap are mentioned?
A. 3 B. 5 C. 2 D. 4
Câu 12: What is best title for the passage?
A. Solutions to Generation Gap B. Generation Gap Consequences.
C. Causes of Generation Gap D. How to solve generation gap conflicts.
Câu 13: What do parents often think about nose piercing?

Read the passage and choose the best answer to complete each question (1.25m)
Many young people strive to be independent. That means you are able to take care of
yourself, and you don't have to rely on anyone else. One of the most important skills is time
management which can help you build your confidence and self-esteem. With good time
management skills, you can perform your daily tasks, including your responsibilities at school and
at home with pleasing results. Moreover, you will not feel stressed when exam dates are
approaching. These skills can also help you act more independently and responsibly, get better
grades at school and have more time for your family and friends. Developing time-management
skills is not as challenging as you may think. Firstly, make a plan for things you need to do,
including appointments and deadlines. Using a diary or apps on mobile devices will remind you of
what you need to accomplish and when you need to accomplish it. Secondly, prioritize your
activities. You need to decide which tasks are the most urgent and important and then, concentrate
on these first. This way, you may not be at a loss to deal with too much work at the same time.
Thirdly, develop routines because routines, when established, take less time for you to do your
tasks. Time management skills are not hard to develop; once you master them, you will find out that
they are great keys to success and you can become independent.
Câu 10: What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Mastering time-management skills can bring many benefits and there are three steps to develop them.
B. Teenagers can have more confidence and self-esteem if they have good time-management skills.
C. Young people need a lot of life skills to be independent.
D. Teenagers can’t have more confidence and self-esteem if they have good time-management skills.
Câu 11: Which of the following is not mentioned as benefits of good time-management?
A. Be more confident and self-esteemed.
B. Complete the daily tasks with the best result.
C. Get better grades at school and have more time for other activities.
D. Be less confident and self-esteemed.
Câu 12: How can you prioritise your activities?
A. Concentrate on the most urgent and important tasks first.
B. Make lists for things you need to do.
C. Try to establish routines.
D. Make schedule for things you need to do.
Câu 13: What does the word "accomplish" mean?
