Part 1: Summary
The mark given to part 1 is based on the following criteria:
Introduction
(3 pts)
Write good summary with enough content and clear, logical information.
The article presents a research led by researchers from the NUS on
the benefits of regular tea drinking towards the elderly and propose
the next step in further research on this issue.
Detailed Description
(10 pts)
Present the key points and main ideas in the right form of a paragraph. Make
sure that no important points have been omitted or distorted. The summary
should include the following information:
Benefits gained from regular tea consumption
1. Past study
Tea intake benefits human health: mood improvement and cardiovascular
disease prevention.
2. Study done by Ass Prof Feng in 2017
+ daily consumption of tea can reduce the risk of cognitive decline in older
people by 50%
3. Further study by Ass Prof Feng and his team (2015-2018)
+ Description
The research is carried out with 36 adults aged 60 and above.
The health, lifestyle, and psychological well-being of these elderly are
collected.
The old people have to undergo neuropsychological tests and magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI).
+ Result:
Individuals who consumed either green tea, oolong tea, or black tea at
least four times a week for about 25 years had brain regions that
were interconnected in a more efficient way.
Tea drinkers had better cognitive function as compared to non-tea
drinkers.
Next step in research
+ More research is needed to better understand how functions like memory
emerge from brain circuits, and the possible interventions to better preserve
cognition during the ageing process.

Demonstration of a variety of vocabulary and structures appropriate to
the level of English language gifted upper-secondary school students
