Basically, volunteer work or volunteering is the act of
individuals working for or on behalf of others or for a
certain cause without being paid for their services.
Therefore, volunteer work can be defined as assisting
the needy in society. This may entail reading to
children in a school for the disabled, raising money to
reduce poverty, coaching a community team, raising
awareness of essential issues in the community,
planting trees, and offering counseling and support,
including caring for the elderly. In general, volunteer
work is commonly seen as an altruistic engagement,
designed to promote public good and enhance human
life. Nowadays, there are a lot of problems which
haven’t been solved all over the world. For instance:
poverty, pollution, catastrophe aftermath, … So
volunteering is made to somehow make this solvable.
-Diệu Thúy (Slide 4,5,6,7,8,9,10)
Slide 4: Volunteering has many benefits
Slide 5: First of all, it partly solves the condition of
poverty. Slide 6: In many recent years, charity has been
supporting for poor people billions of dollars, which is a
great milestone in the history. Now, there are more and
more charity foundations are established for lofty purposes.
Slide 7: Secondly, it does wonders to the environment. If
you go to some coasts, you can easily see groups of
people walking around and collecting plastic bottles and
cans. That’s a really easy thing to do but it helps the environment a lot.
Slide 8: Last but not least, volunteering brings happiness
to other people. From volunteering, you can get poor
people a place to call home, or just give them clothes,
foods, drinks, … all of these things are not too much but
they can cheer disadvantaged people up a little bit.
Slide 9: Moreover, doing volunteer work can develop our
own skills, help us gain experience, provide benefits to
both of our mental and physical health, et cetera…
Slide 10: Thus, we should find different opportunities to
do volunteer, maybe on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and
many other social media apps or websites. -Diệu Vy:
Slide 11: There are many foundations and organizations
all over the world and in Vietnam, some of them are
really outstanding, for instance: Blue Dragon Foundation
Slide 12: This is Michael Brosowski, he is the founder of
this foundation. The main aims of this foundation are
caring, educating for street kids and kids who are at risk:
also supporting for sex trafficking survivors.
Slide 13: The second one is a really remarkable and
familiar one to Vietnamese people. It’s the International
Committee of the Red Cross. It was founded on 23rd
November 1946. It has been helping Vietnamese people
a lot. Caring for people’s health, planting trees,
preventing disasters from hurting people, donating
blood, organs, and many things else. -Đức Anh (Slide 14,15,16):
Slide 14: Recently in the Central Vietnam, there has been
floods, typhoon, damaging winds, which have been
leading to deaths of many people and loss of many
houses and properties in general. The grief is now
indescribable through the death toll.
Slide 15: If you can, we encourage you to donate your
clothes, utensils, and maybe some money for people
who are suffering from these horrific disasters.
Slide 16: That’s the end of our presentation, thank you for listening.
