correct answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 36.
We celebrated Earth Day in my city last week. The idea of this special day began in the 1960s when
life was very different. Few people talked or even thought about the environment. Most people had no
idea how dirty our air and water were. This attitude bothered Gaylord Nelson, who was a senator in the
US government, and he had an idea. If people around the world knew that the planet was in danger, they
might work harder to save it, so he just needed to get their attention. The first Earth Day was just in the
United States but it led to events every year all around the world on April 22 or the nearest weekend,
depending on where you are.
In my town, last Saturday afternoon lots of people rode their bikes from the park, around the town
together and back to the park, taking as much time as they possibly could, so that the cars had to wait.
Then we talked to all the drivers in cars which just had one person in them, to explain how wasteful that
is and how much pollution it causes. The idea was to make people think about how much they use their
cars. In other places, people collected plastic bags for a week and then made a pile of them in the town
square. You can do anything as long as it makes people of all ages come together for a few hours and talk
about the environment. Last year we had a big music event for young people. Some people said it was a
waste of time, but there was information for people to read and announcements between the bands about
how to help protect the environment.

A good deal of fascinating research has been done about the reading patterns of young people, and it
is surprising to discover at what an early age children start expressing preferences for particular kinds
of books. A recent report, which examined in detail the reading habits of primary-school children, showed
that even seven-year-old boys and girls have clear views about what they want to read. Girls, in general,
read more, and far more girls than boys preferred reading stories. Boys were showing a taste for the
more instant appeal of picture stories, or else books about their hobbies.
These tastes continue unchanged until the children are teenagers. Apparently girls read more in
general, but more fiction in particular. You could say that there are more opportunities for girls to read
fiction: magazines encourage the fiction habit in girls in their early teens, and by their late teens they have
probably moved on to the adult women’s magazines. Teenage boys tend to buy magazines about their
hobbies: motorcycles, heavy transport and so on.

You know what they say; find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life. So, if you are
thinking about what to do with your life, this may be something to consider. Choosing a career can be
difficult Especially' because there are so many jobs to choose from and many things to think about, such
as qualifications and financial rewards. So how do you pick a career? The only answer seems to be
“choose one that makes you feel that you are getting paid for doing something you truly love".
Unless you have grown up with a talent or are keen on something that you can make a career out of,
you need to consider certain things about yourself. What suits your personality? We are all different and
just because your best friend wants to be a doctor, this does not mean that you should follow. You need to
make an informed decision. This means thinking carefully about the path you need to follow to get that
job. Are you willing to get the training or education needed? You must also consider why you really want
to do it. If it's just because it’s well paid, then sometime in the future you are going to feel “empty”, even
with a healthy bank account.
Nowadays. there are plenty of online career sites, but the main part has to come from you. You need
to be honest and measure your skills and talents realistically. Also, you may need to talk to your parents
who have their own ideas, based on their own experiences, about what you should do. They have your
best interests at heart. They don’t want to see you having financial problems or being unemployed. But at
the end of the day, it is your life. There is no point in being miserable for the next forty years just to please
someone else.
Question 31. What is the main idea of the paragraph about choosing a career?
A. Following your friends' career choices is the best approach.
B. Financial rewards should be the only factor in choosing a career.
C. Choosing a career should involve personal passion and careful consideration.
D. Online career sites are the most important resources for job seekers.

The first Earth Day was just in the
United States but it led to events every year al around the world on April 22 or the nearest weekend, depending on where you are.
In my town, last Saturday afternoon lots of people rode their bikes from the park, around the town
together and back to the park, taking as much time as they possibly could, so that the cars had to wait.
Then we talked to al the drivers in cars which just had one person in them, to explain how wasteful that
is and how much pol ution it causes. The idea was to make people think about how much they use their
cars. In other places, people col ected plastic bags for a week and then made a pile of them in the town
square. You can do anything as long as it makes people of al ages come together for a few hours and talk
about the environment.
