creating. According to Chapman's research, music is involved in the identity formation
process of adolescents, and their musical preferences help them achieve group personality
and connect to the youth perception. In reality, there is some doubt about whether the
influence of music on adolescents differs in another context. The study aims to research the
influence of music on ISBA first-year students' quality of life and assist them in developing
more positive stress-management methodologies. iv

Music has always played a vital role in human life, dating back to the dawn of humanity.
Music exists at all times and is a part of the daily lives of people worldwide. It dates back to
ancient times and is now an essential part of all nations' communication and daily lives.
Music is intertwined with every moment of human life, from birth to death. Lullabies in the
womb, nursery rhymes as a youngster, love songs while mating, labor songs in the factory,
and tunes that bring people home to dust… Music can communicate ideas and concepts and
evoke strong emotions in listeners. It affects the soul with emotional vibrations. Let your
imagination run wild. Helping others to understand and appreciate life is a valuable skill..
Recent research into the nature of the human mind, revealing how it develops musical
abilities and intellect, has revolutionized our understanding of teaching and learning. In his
book The Mozart Effect for Parents (2003), Don Campbell asserts that music helps children
develop their intellectual potential in areas such as language, study habits, and reading,
Mathematics, facts, visual and auditory memory. Empirical research (Palmer and Kelly 1992;
Mora 2000; Medina 1990; Chengiz 2004) suggests that music and language should be
incorporated into classroom work. Students can encode words with deep emotional and
contextual labels through musical aspects, resulting in a realistic, meaningful and logical
environment. Students can build positive attitudes, self-perceptions, and cultural acceptability
by absorbing new information and learning to infer new language patterns.
In this study, the paper tries to investigate the influence of music on ISBA first-year
students. Assist them in developing more positive stress-reduction strategies for school and life. 2. Literature review
Nowadays, listening to music is a ubiquitous relaxing activity after a long working day.
Few know the full impact of music on people, especially teenagers, who are a key factor in
understanding the journey from adolescence to adulthood. Music has a marked effect on our
sense of agency, which refers to our ability to control our lives and our environment. To study
this effect, a mobile application was used to collect brief self-reports of personal music
listening experiences. The results show that the external influence was reduced when the
listeners traveled to different places on foot or in public transport. When listeners' moods are
positive and reasons for listening are specific, intrinsic power of music increases. This is in
contrast to power when mood is negative and listeners are not specifically motivated to listen.
According to Bandura (1995), "essential is how well people can influence, control, and
negotiate events that affect their lives. But belief in their capacity to act varies from moment

to moment as well."." These beliefs are often called "self-efficacy" (Bandora, 1982).
According to human agency and self-efficacy theories, all motivators of action and change
rely on the idea that each person can shape their own destiny by taking responsible actions.
Beliefs about the efficacy of a particular approach to achieving success can motivate and lead
to increased well-being and personal accomplishment in all areas of life (Pajares, 2005,
p.339). Listening to music often has a powerful effect on the situation in which it is heard,
changing the listener's mood, atmosphere, and sense of connectivity. (DeNora, 1999, 2000,
2013; Lincoln, 2005; Krueger, 2011, 2018; Skånland, 2013; O`Neill, 2017). Music can be a
powerful tool for controlling one's emotions, health, and overall sense of agency. (DeNora, 2000, 2001; Skånland, 2013).
On the other hand, prior research has concentrated on the reasons for and effects of
listening to music when there is little or no control over the environment, such as when
traveling (Heye and Lamont, 2010; Sknland, 2013) or driving (Dibben). I did. Additionally,
Williamson (2007) and employment in an office setting (Dibben and Williamson, 2007)
(Hack, 2011). According to Bull (2006); Hey and Lamont (2010), listeners immerse
themselves in their own music, paying close attention to the music and their surroundings.
For example, when the external sense of agency is low, listening to music can be viewed as
an attempt to manage internal/exterior spaces, avoid environmental stress, and self-regulate.
Additionally, prior studies employing mobile ESM discovered that this particular reason
was connected to poor listener emotional health and wellbeing, low valence, and low arousal
mood (Randall and Rickard, 2017b). The conclusions of these outside organizations likewise
mesh with what Kruger refers to as a "musically broadened mind" (2014). You may think of
music as an external resource that improves your internal skills and gives you the chance to
take emotional, physical, and social action (Krueger, 2011, 2014). On the other hand, it has
been discovered that certain mood-related experiences, motives, and ambitions, or internal
experience, are important predictors of changes in internal combustion engines. The finding
that an apparent internal reason for listening is actively associated with changes in internal
combustion engines indicates that people intend to use music in a particular way to change
their mood. The music psychology literature provides strong evidence for this idea (Baltazar
and Saarikallio, 2016; Baltazar, 2019; Thayer et al., 1994; DeNora, 1999; Saarikallio, 2011;
Van Goethem and Sloboda, 2011).
In conclusion, despite the fact that it seems like teens who listen to music feel more in
control of their daily life, this phenomena cannot be applied to all situations, listeners, or even
all divisions of the agency. As a result, Vietnam does not have a serious concern about this.
The influence of music on ISBA freshmen
These ground-breaking studies by Suvi Helinä Saarikallio, William M. Randall, and
Margarida Baltazar (2020), "Music Listening to Support the Sense of Agencies in Youth's
Everyday Life," shed new light on how young people perceive music. Provides insight into
agency and happiness in the complexity of everyday life. Those discoveries are valuable
resources for completing essays and research on the influence of music. Hence, I will adopt
those pieces of knowledge and findings in my research to the impact of music on ISBA first- year students. 3. Method
The quantitative technique was used in the review. The strength of this strategy is that it
is simple, quick, and collects more data; hence, we should have a more detailed sketch. The
sampling method which was used in this research is the convenience and snowballing
methods. The survey questionnaire was administrated to a selected number of respondents,
who would then pass it to others to complete the survey. The information for this review was
obtained from a study at the Banking Academy International School. First, a survey sheet will
be distributed to 200 ISBA first-year adolescents studying at the Banking Academy. The
survey questionnaire includes ten demographic questions that allow for multiple answers. To
analyze the response, we need to look at what the person said and what they meant. Music
has a significant impact on first-year students at ISBA. 4. Results
A survey on music's impact on ISBA first-year students is conducted at Banking
Academy with 200 ISBA first-year students. Participants were asked if they often listen to
music. Then the 200 students who indicated their willingness to participate in the survey were
given ten questions concerning their musical tastes, attitudes toward music, and experiences
with music. As expected, the results fully reflect music's impact on ISBA first-year students at Banking Academy.

Figure 5: Time freshmen spend listening to music in a day
ISBA first-year students typically listen to music for one to six hours a day (35 percent of
people listen to music for 1-3 hours a day, and 33 percent listen for 4-6 hours a day). 20% of
young people listen to more than 6 hours a day and only 12% of students spend less than 1 hour listening to music.
5. Discussion of findings
5. 1. How is the engagement to the music of ISBA's freshmen?
Music has always been an essential part of human development and communication. The
amount of time kids and teenagers spend listening to music has grown over time. As a result,
music can significantly impact children and adolescents. They listen to music for 2.5 hours
per day through radio, phones, media players, the internet, etc.
According to certain research, the words and pictures in music may have a big influence on
how young people feel, think, and act. Music is a common tool used by young people to
discover their personalities and social identities. It allows them to develop ideas and emotions
in a safe environment and express themselves without using words. Teenagers can learn how
to cope with stressful situations through positive music influences. Music can play an
essential role in helping teens connect with social groups and build a sense of belonging.
On the other hand, some types of music's harmful and destructive themes may be
inappropriate for some youngsters. Those prone to violent or negative thoughts are more
The influence of music on ISBA freshmen
likely to experience and act on rock music after listening to it. Music may function as a
trigger and give teenagers these ideas and cravings even if they are not already having these
bad thoughts. There is a lot of criticism of rap music among teenagers because it is said to
objectify women and to encourage drug use. For example, Jay-song Z's 9 Problem refers to a
woman as a "pitch," which can lead to risky behavior in teenagers. Many rap songs seem to
encourage the idea that women are nothing more than sex symbols, which may motivate this action.
5.2. How music can influence ISBA’s freshmen
The data produced above are insufficient to cover all aspects of students' music trends, so this
research has no external validity. The groups were selected from a convenience sample of
ISBA first-year students. But, because the representatives of my research is currently
conducting a reasonably diverse range of students from various social backgrounds, I am
confident that the obtained data can be generalized to some extent.
According to the findings of this study, music has many positive health benefits for ISBA
first-year students. Several other studies have found that music can reduce stress levels.
According to a 2006 study by Khalfa, Bella, Roy, Peretz, and Lupien, the control group's
cortisol levels increased while the experimental group's cortisol levels remained constant.
The study found that listening to music can positively affect the body and its function for
ISBA first-year students. Numerous other studies have shown that music can lower the stress
hormone cortisol. According to a 2006 experiment by Khalfa, Bella, Roy, Peretz, and Lupien,
cortisol levels in the control group increased while those in the experimental group remained
the same. This means that the presence of music lowered cortisol levels, which would have
increased in the absence of music. Jensen did another study (2001). Jensen not only
confirmed that listening to music lowers cortisol levels, but he also defined other reactions.
He claims that the vibrations produced by music decrease the heart rate and IgA levels, which
benefits the immune system. This means that the body may experience the same responses as
when listening to relaxing music. This explains why most ISBA first-year students feel
relieved of stress and boredom when listening to music.
Furthermore, listening to music has been shown to improve the academic performance of
ISBA first-year students. It increases happiness, motivation, and enjoyment of a task, which
affects academic achievement (Can and Güven, 2020). Indeed, music is likely to improve
concentration and creativity due to its impact on human stress reactions. The piece is a great
method for freshman to concentrate on academics and other tasks since it has been found to
activate brain regions related to paying attention, formulating predictions, and updating the
The influence of music on ISBA freshmen
event in memory. As a result, this positively impacts students' academic careers. The research
performed by Antony, Priya, and Gayathri (2018) demonstrated that listening to music while
learning improves academic performance. They conducted this experiment by polling
students about how listening to music affects the effectiveness of students' study and
academic performance and discovered that music and information processing are strongly
linked in the brain, allowing students to perform better under pressure.
Music could be a diversion - under certain conditions, as illustrated in Figure 3. When
students study, they use their "working memory," which means they are holding and
attempting to manipulate various information in their heads at once. The research is evident
that when music is going on in the background, particularly music with vocals, our
memorization suffers. Furthermore, studies show that hearing damage can occur within
minutes of prolonged exposure to high noise levels. As a result, students must know how the
so-called high noise can seriously harm their hearing, as the human ear remains extremely sensitive and vulnerable.
The survey results link ISBA first-year students' emotional intelligence and specific
personality traits. This statistical analysis confirms the study's hypothesis that there were
connections between adolescents' emotional intelligence and specific personality traits based
on their preferred musical genre. According to a survey conducted by Dumitru (2006), North,
Desborough, and Skarstein (2005), young people who listen to R&B music are conscientious,
diligent, severe, and can also be stubborn, combative, and inflexible. Furthermore, young
rock music listeners exhibit introverted characteristics. Youths who prefer rock music are the
people with high emotional intelligence. They express their emotions and thoughts directly
and naturally and can be impulsive, insensitive, and risk-averse at times. The study found a
moderate to the strong relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and extraversion,
personal potential, and social behavior in young people who enjoy electronic dance music
(EDM). Conscientious, tenacious, possessing a strong self despite the worry, being calm,
realistic, and avoiding uncomfortable circumstances are all traits of people who integrate
emotional reactions in their mental processes and permit reasons to include them. Consider
people and things, socially acceptable conduct, and a sense of obligation. They may also
boost one's performance, grasp chances, develop empathy for others, work together, and
lessen the stress that comes with social interactions. According to North, Desborough, and
Skarstein (2005) and Dumitru (2006), those studied in this research tend to have an
extroverted temperament. Similar studies comparing medical and dental students' attitudes to
the general adolescent population found no significant difference.
The influence of music on ISBA freshmen
5.3. In what way can the future research be improved
The study only surveyed first-year ISBA students and relied solely on quantitative research
methods, with no interviews with teachers or experts. The influence of music is a vast
subject, but I have only studied one aspect of it. Because this is a difficult field to quantify, I
rely solely on the students' affected behaviors and attitudes, rather than directly asking. The
impact of music has been extensively researched around the world, but I have not had the
opportunity to learn much more about these studies. The rate of questionnaire recovery is
low. The time of distribution of the questionnaire is inconvenient for respondents. The high
disparity in the proportion of men and women participating in the survey may affect the results of the study. 6. Recommendation
Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations are made. Firstly,
ISBA first-year students should choose suitable genres of music for particular activities to
boost concentration and motivation as much as possible. Classical music may be the best
choice for their brain when studying. It can reduce stress and improve academic performance
in many cases. Furthermore, to reduce the risk of hearing loss, control the volume and
duration of time spent listening to music. Some media players, including iPods, can reach 115
decibels (dB), which is about as loud as a rock concert. It is not safe to listen to music at this
volume for more than a few minutes. Furthermore, listening to music for more than 6 hours
per day can harm their brain, so ISBA students should take regular breaks and use
headphones instead of earphones to reduce the risk of adverse effects. 7. Conclusion
Overall, the study shows that music impacts ISBA first-year students and thoroughly
reviews how music can affect adolescents. My research findings show that there is an
engagement between listening to music and studying ability and personality; however, more
research is needed to confirm this conclusion. For upcoming analysis, I would sample on
more extensive study material and include more independent variable levels and music
genres. Along with these changes, I would extend the time frame for each testing section.
These exciting experiences would allow for a more in-depth examination of this interaction.
Hopefully, my research findings will spark similar interest in the topic of music's influence on
people in general and students in particular.
