Parasite is a black comedy thriller film directed by Bong – Joon – Ho, one of the most famous films in
Korea. Parasite was very successful and received a lot of reputable awards like “the Best Original
Screenplay award”, Oscar,… Because of its interesting content and the valuable lesson behind the films.
According to Bong, the film’s director, the name “Parasite” refers to the attachment, symbiotic between
social factors in real life, the poor always try to cling to the premise of the rich to survive; the rich rely on
the service which is conducted by the poor to satisfy their need like doing housework, driving a car,
educating their children,…; the innocent beautiful wife just depends on her successful husband to live
well. Therefore, Parasite is a film about the strong conflict between rich and poor family affection.
Through the film, especially through Ki-woo one of the main characters in this film, we can learn a lot of valuable lessons.
First, we have to be hard-working to release ourselves from debt and poor and not be greedy. Only when
we escape from the poor, will we have the motivation to pull ourselves up from the bottom of society.
Do not use some bad strict to defraud and depend on another person to live.
Second, stop dreaming and keep attempting. In our life, if we have a little bit of success, respect it, and
do not flatter ourselves, don’t think that we got everything. If we want to have a truly wonderful life, live
in wealth and happiness, we have to try our best and persevere.
Third, loving and tolerating other people. In our life, if everyone knows how to be tolerant, be no
respecter of persons, help each other passing our trouble, we will have a better life with no conflict
between other classes in society. (Like the rich can help the poor to improve their life through some
social activities to encourage the poor to attempt working by themselves and depend on nobody.)
Finally, remember that money is not everything. Do not be affected and lose ourselves just to chase on
money. People can be weaker, more aggressive, and obsessed with money. So we need to be lucid, do
not let money control us, and lose our minds.
