Vietnam ranks 63rd globally in digital environment
According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) index, Vietnam ranked 63rd out of 113
economies in terms of digital environment and entrepreneurial support system.
ADB's index measures the quality of the environment for digital entrepreneurs by looking at
the level of digitalization in eight areas: culture, institutions, market conditions, infrastructure,
human capital , knowledge, finance and networks.
Singapore has the world's best digital environment and support system for entrepreneurs,
according to the Global Index of Digital Startup Systems, published on September 21 as part
of the Global Entrepreneurship Update. Asian Development Outlook 2022. The US ranks
second, Sweden third, Thailand 59th, Vietnam 63rd, Indonesia 71st, India 75th and the Philippines, 79th.
ADB said that up to 17 out of 21 developing economies in Asia were ranked bottom.
Underscoring the need for many to nurture digital entrepreneurship, ADB said, also noting
that digitalization offers major growth opportunities for businesses in the Asia Pacific region.
Digitalization is the driver of innovation, key for economies striving to achieve high-income
conditions. Digitization can also help make economies more resilient, with digital technology
already helping many businesses survive the Covid-19 pandemic and driving inclusive
growth by reducing start-up costs , according to the bank.
"Digital entrepreneurship has helped economies stay afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic
and could become a key driver of growth and innovation in the post-pandemic world. For this
to happen "There needs to be a supportive environment enabled by beneficial policies and
incentives," said ADB Chief Economist Albert Park.
In addition to investing in digital infrastructure such as broadband networks, governments
need to promote political stability, trustworthy legal systems, open and competitive markets,
and strong property rights. strong. ADB analysis shows that strong rule of law has a positive
impact on business innovation, while less corruption in society correlates with increased
market entry of new entrepreneurs.
For all of Asia and the Pacific, an inadequately supportive culture is one of the biggest
weaknesses when it comes to nurturing digital entrepreneurship, according to ADB. One
example is the general lack of public appreciation for the important role that entrepreneurs
play in economic development. The bank says one way to change this is to increase public
awareness of entrepreneurship through education. (Source: VNExpress)
