Some people think spoken communication is more powerful than written communication.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Answer:
Nowadays, both face- -face and written communication are very common. Although many to
people are in favour of the opinion that oral communication is more powerful than written
communication. From my perspective, I partially agree with this viewpoint because of the
following reasons.
On the one hand, it is believed that spoken communication is the oldest form of communication.
It allows people to facilitate the conversation by speaking faster or using facial expressions, body
language and adjusting their intonation. Another thing is that meeting and talking directly with
each other helps us to have a better understanding of the person we are communicating with. We
can easily guess the true feelings of the person we are talking face to face with through his or her
facial expressions and gestures, but we cannot do that just by reading some written text.
On the other hand, written communication is considered more formal in many cases, especially
in law and business. For instance, in court, our words might count for nothing if we do not have
valid evidence, such as written documents, to support our arguments. In addition, for working
circumstances, the need to keep track of the correspondence among relevant parties is significant
and this inherently requires people to communicate by emails or text messages instead of
speaking face- -face or via technological devices. to
In conclusion, it is difficult to decide whether utter communication or written communication is
more important. From my perspective, spoken words are more effective in situations when we
need to use our gestures and show emotions, while written communication is preferable in law
and business.
