E-LEARNING DURING COVID 19 PANDEMIC
3. LIMITATIONS:
1. Lack of social interactions:
Social interaction in classroom includes student-student interaction, student-instructor
interaction, and "instructor presence"
Observing and interacting with others are the most effective ways for people to learn
→ One of the major limitations of the online learning experience is a lack of social
interaction in classroom includes student-student interaction, student-instructor
interaction, and "instructor presence") which can be frustrating for some students.
According to Albert Bandura- a Canadian-American psychologist who was the Professor
in Psychology at Stanford University, in his social learning theory he points out that
observing and interacting with others are the most effective ways for people to learn
(social interaction in classroom includes student-student interaction, student-instructor
interaction, and "instructor presence"). They acquire knowledge and skills by watching
others’ behavior and attitude, as well as related outcomes.
2. Technological issues:
Bad internet connectivity can affect students ‘performances.
According to the National Center of Education Statistics (NCES), 14% of students,
aged 3-18, do not have access to the Internet or lose the internet connection while
learning at home.
→Another challenge that online classes have to face is internet connectivity. While
internet penetration has increased rapidly over the past few years, in smaller cities and
towns, a consistent connection with decent speed is a problem. According to the National
Center of Education Statistics (NCES), 14% of students, aged 3-18, do not have access to
the Internet or lose the internet connection while learning at home, roughly equating to 9
million students. As a result, students ‘performances can be affected enormously.
3. The possibility of cheating: Cheating in exams is easy for internet-savvy students,
which is impossible to avoid during the online exam
Don't have enough knowledge, which makes it difficult to absorb new knowledge
when returning schools.
Results in a loss of trust with teachers and learning directly cannot get as high a
score as online exams.
→"Virtual" achievements appear more and more in education when organizing online
exams because of the serious epidemic situation. Cheating in exams is even easier for
internet-savvy students. It is impossible to avoid situations during the online exam. Such
cheating can get high scores, but we don't have enough knowledge, which makes it
difficult to absorb new knowledge when returning schools. Over cheating results in a loss
of trust with teachers and learning directly cannot get as high a score as online exams.
4. Health issues:
Mental health: Causing stress and insomnia due to irregular schedules, lack of human
contact (a study conducted by students of Lucknow-based spring dale college chains of
schools reported that 50% complained of stress and 22.7% of insomnia) .
Physical heath:
Physical strain to your eyes and body
Increasing risk of obesity
→Excessive screen time not only strains our eyes and makes them dry, but it can also
damage our retina and cause blurred vision. Furthermore, being slumped over all of the
time affects our posture and can cause neck and shoulder stiffness and pain. The passive
nature of e-learning means we take no notice of physical activity and exercise, which
contributes to increased weight-gain.
CONCLUSION:
The education industry has been significantly transformed by Covid-19. In the wake of
a pandemic, the whole education industry has been transformed to ensure that students
are not affected.
Nevertheless, nothing is perfect, including online learning. It certainly has some
drawbacks, but in some cases, its benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
→It certainly has its drawbacks that include limited social interaction, the possibility of
cheating, technological and health-related issues, but in certain important instances, it
can be extremely beneficial when it comes to cost savings, speed, consistency,
environmental benefits, and the safety of the community.
