CONCLUSION......................................................................................................................................7 INTRODUCTION
Career choice refers to the process in which individuals identify and select a
profession or career path that they intend to pursue in the future. This decision is
influenced by various factors such as personal interests, abilities, values, educational
background, and socio-economic conditions. Career choice is not only related to
income but also closely connected to personal satisfaction, work-life balance, and long-term career development.
In today’s modern society, career choice has become an essential issue for young
people, especially students. The rapid development of science and technology,
together with globalization, has significantly transformed the labor market. While
many traditional jobs are gradually disappearing, numerous new careers are emerging,
particularly in technology-based and global industries. As a result, young people are
given more opportunities, but at the same.
Therefore, the purpose of this discussion is to examine the opportunities and
challenges in career choices, as well as to suggest practical approaches for making
wise and well-informed career decisions. By analyzing these aspects, the group aims to
help young people better prepare for their future careers in an increasingly competitive and dynamic job market. 1
1. Opportunities in career choices
1.1 . Wide variety of career options available in modern society

In modern society, people have a wide variety of career options. This mainly
comes from fast economic development and rapid technological progress. In the past,
most people only worked in traditional jobs such as teachers, doctors, or engineers.
However, today many new jobs have appeared, especially in technology and online
services. For example, there are jobs in information technology, digital marketing,
online business, and social media. Because of this, people can choose jobs that match
their skills, interests, and personal strengths. Someone who likes working with
computers can choose a job in technology, while a creative person can work in media
or marketing. This diversity helps people feel more confident and have many
opportunities when choosing their future career.
1.2 . Globalization creates chances to work abroad or in international companies
Besides career diversity, globalization also creates many job opportunities.
Globalization has connected countries more closely, which means the job market is no
longer limited to one nation. Today, many companies operate in different countries
and hire employees from around the world. Because of this, people have more chances
to work abroad or work for international companies, instead of only looking for jobs in
their own country. In Vietnam, many people work for international companies such as
Samsung or Unilever, or work online for foreign companies while still living in
Vietnam. These international job opportunities help workers gain valuable experience
and improve their skills, which is important for long-term career development.
1.3 . Technology opens up new industries and flexible jobs (remote work, freelancing)
Technology has had a strong impact on the way people work in modern society.
With the development of the internet and digital tools, many tasks can be completed
online, which means workers are no longer required to be in the office every day. This
change allows people to work more flexibly and manage their time better, especially
when they want to reduce pressure from fixed working hours. At the same time,
technology has led to the growth of new industries and digital jobs, creating more
opportunities for employment. These industries offer jobs that match different skills
and interests, making the job market more diverse. Overall, technology not only
creates new jobs but also helps people balance work and personal life more effectively.
1.4 . Better access to education and training
Today, people have better access to education and training thanks to the internet
and digital technology. Learning is more convenient because people can study anytime
and anywhere through online platforms. Many students and workers learn through
websites and apps like Coursera or Udemy without going to a classroom. Education is
also more flexible, as people can choose courses that match their needs, such as
foreign languages, digital marketing, or computer skills. This allows them to improve
their knowledge step by step while still working or studying. In addition, online 2
training helps people develop practical skills needed for real jobs, like programming,
graphic design, or data analysis. With better access to education and training, workers
can adapt more easily to changes in the job market and prepare for better career opportunities in the future.
2. Challenges in career choices
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions in a person’s life. It
can affect not only income but also happiness and personal development. However,
many people find it difficult to make the right choice because of different challenges.
2.1 . Too many options may cause confusion and stress
One of the main problems is that there are too many career options today. In the
past, people usually followed traditional jobs, but now students can choose from
hundreds of careers in different fields. For example, the rise of E-commerce and
digital technology has created many new roles that did not exist ten years ago. Because
of this, they may feel confused and stressed. Some people are afraid of choosing the
wrong job, so they spend a lot of time thinking and still feel unsure.
2.2 . Rapid changes in job market make some jobs unstable
Another challenge is the rapid change in the job market. Technology and AI are
developing quickly, and many jobs are replaced by machines or computers. This
means that some traditional jobs might disappear in the future. At the same time, new
jobs are created, but not everyone is ready for them. As a result, some careers become
unstable, and people worry about losing their jobs or not finding work in the future. To
handle this, workers need to be resourceful and good at problem-solving. Because the
market is unpredictable, staying flexible and constantly learning new skills is the only
way to stay "safe" in your career.
2.3 . Pressure from family, peers, or society affects personal decisions
In addition, pressure from family, friends, or society plays an important role in
career choices. Many students choose a job not because they like it, but because their
parents want them to have a "stable" or "high-status" career, such as doctors or
engineers. Moreover, seeing the success of friends on social media can create a lot of
peer pressure. Because of this pressure, some people choose a career that does not
match their interests or abilities, such as being highly organised or good with people,
just to follow social expectations, which can lead to dissatisfaction later in life.
2.4 . Lack of information and career orientation skills
In addition to social pressure, a major challenge faced by many young people is
the lack of accurate career-related information and insufficient career orientation skills.
In reality, many students do not have a comprehensive understanding of different
career paths, including job requirements, working conditions, career progression, and
long-term prospects. For example, a considerable number of students choose
“trending” majors such as marketing, information technology, or international business
based mainly on media coverage of high salaries, without fully realizing the heavy 3
workload, high skill requirements, or intense competition in these fields. Moreover,
career information is often obtained from social media or subjective opinions of
friends and relatives, which may be unreliable or misleading. As a result, students may
experience dissatisfaction, low motivation, and a mismatch between their abilities and
their chosen careers, eventually leading to career changes after graduation.
2.5 . Competition in the job market is getting tougher
Closely related to the issue of career orientation is the growing intensity of
competition in the labor market. The rapid increase in the number of university
graduates has given employers a wider selection of candidates, allowing them to raise
recruitment standards. For instance, for positions in business or marketing, employers
often require not only academic qualifications but also practical experience, strong
communication skills, teamwork ability, and adaptability. However, many students
focus primarily on theoretical knowledge and lack real-world exposure during their
studies. Consequently, newly graduated students often struggle to compete with
candidates who already have work experience, which may result in unemployment or
acceptance of jobs that are unrelated to their field of study.
2.6 . Financial barriers to pursuing certain careers
In addition to these challenges, financial constraints play a significant role in shaping career choices among
young people. Certain professions require high
educational costs, long training periods, or substantial initial financial investment, such
as medicine, aviation, architecture, or overseas study programs. For example, pursuing
a career as a pilot or a medical doctor requires years of training and considerable
financial resources, which many families cannot afford. As a result, students from
disadvantaged backgrounds may be forced to abandon their career aspirations and
prioritize jobs that offer immediate financial stability. Although these decisions are
practical in the short term, they may limit individuals’ long-term career development
and reduce job satisfaction over time.
3. How to make a wise career choice
3.1 . Self-assessment: identify strengths, weaknesses, and personal goals

The first and most important step in making a wise career choice is self-
assessment. Young people need to clearly understand their own strengths, weaknesses,
interests, and values. This includes identifying what they are good at, what skills they
lack, and what kind of working environment suits them best. For example, a student who is
good at communication, presentation, and teamwork may be suitable for
careers in marketing, sales, or public relations, while someone who is strong in logic
and problem-solving may perform better in fields such as engineering, IT, or data analysis.
In addition, personal goals play a crucial role in career decisions. Some individuals
prioritize high income and fast career promotion, while others value job stability,
work-life balance, or social contribution. For instance, a person who values helping
others may choose a career in education, healthcare, or social work instead of a high- 4
paying corporate job. By understanding their long-term goals, students can avoid
choosing careers that only look attractive in the short term but do not match their personality or life plans.
Self-assessment helps individuals make more realistic and confident decisions.
When people choose a career that matches their abilities and personal goals, they are
more likely to feel motivated, satisfied, and successful in the long run.
3.2 . Research job market trends and future demand
Besides understanding themselves, young people should also research the job
market carefully before making a career choice. The labor market is constantly
changing due to technological development, globalization, and economic shifts. Some
jobs may be popular today but decline in the future, while others may grow rapidly.
For example, fields such as information technology, artificial intelligence,
cybersecurity, healthcare, renewable energy, and digital marketing are expected to
expand in the coming years. In contrast, traditional jobs like data entry, repetitive
factory work, or manual accounting are increasingly being replaced by automation and AI systems.
By researching employment statistics, job websites, and industry reports,
students can better understand which careers offer long-term stability and development
opportunities. For instance, a student who notices the high demand for software
engineers or data analysts may decide to invest in learning programming and digital
skills early. This approach helps reduce the risk of unemployment and increases the
chance of building a sustainable career.
3.3 . Seek advice from mentors, teachers, or career consultants
Another effective way to make a wise career choice is to seek advice from
experienced people such as mentors, teachers, or career consultants. These individuals
have practical knowledge and professional experience, which can help students gain a
more realistic understanding of different careers. For example, a teacher may suggest
that a student who performs well in biology and chemistry consider careers in
medicine, pharmacy, or biotechnology. A career consultant may use personality and
aptitude tests to help students identify suitable career paths. In addition, talking to
people who are already working in a specific field, such as engineers, marketers, or
entrepreneurs, allows students to learn about real working conditions, work pressure,
salary expectations, and career development paths.
Receiving advice from reliable sources helps young people avoid
misunderstandings and unrealistic expectations. It also allows them to make better-
informed decisions and feel more confident about their chosen career path.
3.4 . Balance between passion, skills, and financial stability
Choosing a career requires a careful balance between personal passion, existing
skills, and financial stability. Passion is important because it motivates individuals to 5
stay committed and satisfied with their work. However, passion alone is not enough if
a person lacks the necessary skills or if the career cannot provide a stable income.
Skills determine whether an individual can perform well and compete in the job
market. Therefore, people should assess their abilities and invest in developing key
competencies related to their desired field. Financial stability is also a crucial factor, as
a career should provide sufficient income to support one’s living expenses and future goals.
A wise career choice is one that aligns personal interests with practical abilities
and realistic financial prospects. By balancing these three factors, individuals can
achieve both personal fulfillment and long-term security.
3.5 . Gain practical experience through internships, part-time jobs, or volunteering
Practical experience plays a significant role in making informed career
decisions. Through internships, part-time jobs, or volunteering, individuals can explore
real working environments, understand job responsibilities, and develop essential professional skills.
Internships provide opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life
situations and to build connections with professionals in the field. Part-time jobs help
students develop soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and time management.
Volunteering allows individuals to gain experience while contributing to society and discovering their interests.
By gaining hands-on experience, individuals can better evaluate whether a
career suits their personality and abilities, which helps them make more confident and informed decisions.
3.6 . Stay flexible and open to lifelong learning and career adjustment.
In today’s rapidly changing world, career paths are no longer fixed.
Technological advancements, economic changes, and personal growth can influence
career opportunities and preferences. Therefore, individuals should remain flexible and open to lifelong learning.
Continuous learning helps people update their skills, adapt to new trends, and
remain competitive in the job market. Career adjustment is also important, as
individuals may discover new interests or face unexpected changes in their chosen field.
By staying adaptable and committed to learning, individuals can navigate career
challenges successfully and achieve long-term professional growth. 6
