ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
First of all, we would like to send our sincere thanks to Thuong Mai University for
including the subject Business English 1.2 in the curriculum. In particular, we would like
to express our deep gratitude to the subject lecturer Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Lan who has taught
valuable knowledge to our group during the recent study period. During our time
participating in your class, we gained a lot of useful knowledge and a spirit of effective and
serious learning. This will be valuable knowledge, which is a tool for us to be able to step
forward in the future.
This subject includes practical knowledge related to the major. However, our knowledge is
still limited and the ability to absorb reality is still confusing. Although we have tried our
best, it is certainly difficult for us not to avoid shortcomings and many inaccuracies in the
presentation. We hope you will review and give comments to make our essay more
complete.
We would like to send our sincere thanks to you!

THE MAIN CONTENT
1. Introduction:
Career progression is an employee’s “workplace journey”. It encompasses all the steps
one takes in their career to improve whether in terms of title, compensation, or skills.
Though it’s a winning combination of all three.
Job satisfaction refers to the level of self-motivation, contentment, and fulfillment that
an employee experiences in their role. It occurs when employees perceive their job as being
secure, providing opportunities for career advancement, and offering a healthy balance
between work and personal life. This means the employee is happy at work because the
work meets the person’s standards. The factors contributing to job satisfaction can vary for
individuals, but there are some commonly recognized ones:
- Personal factors: These factors encompass elements such as an individual's gender,
level of education, age, marital status, personal characteristics, family background,
socioeconomic status, and related attributes.
- Factors inherent in the job:
+ Work environment: A comfortable, supportive, and pleasant environment can
enhance job satisfaction. This includes having good relationships with colleagues,
dedicated management, and support from coworkers and teams.
+ Development and advancement opportunities: The ability to develop professionally
and advance in the job is an important factor. Opportunities for learning, training, and
career progression help employees feel a sense of continuous development and
achievement of personal goals.
+ Work-life balance: Achieving a balance between work and personal life is an
essential factor in maintaining job satisfaction. Having time and flexibility for family,
hobbies, and other extracurricular activities can create favorable conditions for satisfaction.
2. Signs it is time to find a new job:
There are several signs that may indicate it is time to start looking for a new job:
- High stress levels are affecting employees’ personal lives: Chronic stress,
overwhelming workloads, or experiencing burnout can have detrimental effects on their
physical and mental health. If their job consistently causes high levels of stress and
negatively impacts their well-being, it might be necessary to seek a job that offers a better
work-life balance and supports workers’ overall health.
- Lack of growth or advancement opportunities: If an employee feels stagnant in the
current role and there are limited opportunities for professional growth or advancement
within the organization, it may be a sign to explore new job prospects.
- If a worker no longer finds the current work Unfulfilling work or loss of passion:
fulfilling or has lost his/her passion for what his/her do, it can lead to dissatisfaction and a
decline in job performance. Feeling unengaged or disconnected from that work can be a
strong signal that it is time for a change.
- are making it hard to support an employee’s cost of living. If he/she Low wages
believes that low wages are not competitive or do not adequately reflect skills, experience,
and contributions, it may be worth exploring other opportunities where he/she can be fairly
rewarded for your work.
7
3. The key aspects to consider before changing careers:
a) Subjective aspects:
- Personal career goal:
+ Personal goals represent an employee's aspirations at work. When people intend to
change their present job, deciding reasons for wanting to leave the current industry is a
crucial starting point. Employees have to consider seriously whether the present job meets
their requirements. If the answer is yes”, they do not need to try a new tough challenge
but figure out what is indispensable to have a promotion.
+ On the other hand, the current one does not completely fulfill their needs, changing
to a new business is an intelligent choice. Firstly, thoughtful consideration of their desired
achievements is undeniably essential. It includes the kind of tasks, projects, and initiatives
that people would like to be involved in. Additionally, when looking deeply into this
decision, it is better to think about questions such as: “What experience or knowledge do I
want to learn, and how will these contribute to my personal growth?”. If this new career
path brings employees closer to seeing their goals through to fruition, change may be
worthwhile.
- Personality and transferable skills:
The subsequent step workers should do is evaluate their background, including
personality, skills, values, and interests. Having a self-assessment to decide what personal
skills can be continually applied in performing tasks of a new job and in which areas they
need to gain the education if they want to be hired. In this step, they may discover their
new advantages and realize that diving into a new field is exciting. It also sustains them
until they have done studying and become a more competitive candidate when pursuing
opportunities within their desired industry.
- Work-life balance:
+ Work-life balance refers to the proportion of time and effort dedicated to work and
work-related activities in comparison to the time and energy employees can spend in their
personal life. Full-time jobs are typically a standard workweek of 40 hours.
+ If workers’ desired job has more than 40 hours per week, they should attentively think
about this decision.
- Employee’s family:
+ While the individual will be the one performing the actual duties in a new career, the
whole household is likely to be affected by related factors, such as the reduction of income
or the lack of concern for relatives because they spend time expanding skills and
knowledge. Failure to consult one’s significant other can put tremendous strain on the
relationship and make the already stressful act of changing careers even harder.
+ Changing careers involves risk and leaving one’s comfort zone. While exciting, they
may also experience doubt and stress. Therefore, having a support system that is 100%
behind employees will make it easier to navigate these moments.
b) Objective aspects:
- Company stability:
+ Working at companies that specialize in workers' skills and have a strong reputation
in their sector can help them stand out from the crowd.
+ Collaborating with experienced and successful professionals can help employees gain
valuable knowledge and skills that will benefit their careers in the long run.
8
- Employee’s benefits:
+ allows employees to save money pre-tax for healthcare expenses Health insurance
and access to high standards of healthcare for a wide range of illnesses and conditions,
including mental health and musculoskeletal conditions.
+ Retirement insurance provides a sense of security for employees post-retirement.
+ Employees can get a chance to access free- training Development opportunities:
courses from the company to broaden their knowledge and professionalize skills. When a
company provides more opportunities for employees, it shows that the company is
concerned about staff development and always expects to support them in obtaining their
career goals.
+ Upward mobility at work is vital for workers. It serves as proof that they are good at
their jobs. It gives them further economic stability in their lives, and it also allows them to
learn and experience more skills as they shift into new roles.
+ Work environments have a great influence on interpersonal relationships, employee
motivation, and team cohesion. A positive environment will enhance team building,
increase the sense of belonging, improve employee productivity, and avoid creating
conditions in which the workers are dissatisfied and demotivated.
+ is the compensation that an employee receives in exchange for their work. A Salary
fair salary is important to ensure that employees are motivated to perform their duties and
remain satisfied with their job.
- Risks of changing jobs:
+ Financial risks: Quitting a job can lead to financial instability, especially if workers
do not have another job lined up. They may have trouble paying bills for a while, including
those student loans that they took out to bankroll their education.
+ Career risks: Changing jobs frequently can make employers hesitant to hire a person.
Training takes an investment of time and money, and an employer might not want to hire
an employee if they think that person just leaves in a year or two. Employers might also
worry about the employee’s judgment and personality.
+ Personal risks: There is always a risk that workers might not like the new job or the
business culture. The occupation might be interesting, but if they do not feel good in the
company or with the person who will decide their performance, that is enough to ruin the
experience.
+ Stress: Transitioning jobs can be stressful, especially if people leave a job that they
have been at for a long time. They may feel anxious about starting over in a new
environment and learning new skills.
4. Advantages and disadvantages of changing the present occupation:
a) Advantages:
- Higher salary:
The advantage of making a job change is the opportunity for a higher income. Many job
switchers report that they were able to negotiate a higher salary when they accepted a new
position, especially if they were able to effectively showcase their experience and skills to
demonstrate their value to their new employer.
- Better Work-Life Balance:
In addition to these financial benefits, changing to another job can also lead to a better
work-life balance. If employees are currently feeling burnt out or overwhelmed in their
9
current position, it may be time to consider a change that allows them to achieve a better
balance between their personal and professional lives.
- Gaining New Experiences and Skills:
Switching jobs offers the chance to acquire fresh experiences and skills. Moving across
different companies and industries exposes individuals to diverse work environments,
cultures, and practices, ultimately broadening their expertise and understanding. This
exposure can enhance their adaptability and versatility in the workplace.
- Diverse work environment experience:
47 percent of workers express that they want to leave their current job due to
dissatisfaction with the company culture. Each workplace has a different culture,
management style, and team dynamics. By changing jobs, workers can work with different
teams and managers which allows them to learn and adapt to varying work environments.
They will be exposed to various industries and sectors, new technologies, processes, and
methods, allowing them to learn new approaches to increase their overall expertise and
make them more attractive to potential employers.
b) Disadvantages :
- Increase stress and pressure:
Changing your current job can make you stressed and pressured compared to others
because it will take you a very long time to find a suitable job as well as many young
people. It's confusing to find a suitable job, so pressure is inevitable.
- Start again from the zero:
Each new job requires you to learn and adapt to unfamiliar systems and processes.
Furthermore, you will have to get used to the new company culture and prove yourself a
valuable employee every time you change jobs. Building trust and demonstrating your
skills takes time.
- Influences on building relationships:
Landing a desired job requires you to have a strong network of contacts as well as
positive references. By frequently leaving companies, you're damaging valuable work
relationships or not having enough time to develop lasting connections.
- Risk of being fired:
Imagine you are a recruiter again. Who will you fire before your business becomes
difficult? When things get tough, loyal employees often have an advantage.
5. How to make a career progression:
- Have a clear goal:
+ One of the most important steps to make a career progression is to have a clear goal.
A clear goal means that employees know what they want to achieve, why they want to
achieve it, and how they will measure their progress. Having a clear goal helps workers to
focus on their efforts, and prioritize tasks. It also gives them direction, clarity, and
confidence to pursue desired dreams.
+ To establish a clear goal, they must reflect on themselves, understand personal
strengths, interests, and motivations, and conduct research. Once they have a clear goal,
write it down and review it regularly to track progress, adjust strategies, and stay motivated.
They can use methods such as action plans, and journals or share their goals with others
who provide feedback and encouragement.
10
- Take advantage of training courses:
+ Businesses are often looking to send their employees on training courses to encourage
the learning and development of staff. Taking advantage of the training courses that the
company offers is also a great way to advance their career. These courses can help workers
develop new skills, improve performance, and demonstrate their commitment to growth.
+ Training courses also expose them to different aspects of the business, expand their
network, and prepare future opportunities for them. Take a look at the company’s intranet,
and ask the line manager to see what training is available and whether they can sign up.
They should choose the courses that match their career aspirations, and address any
challenges that they face in their current or future roles.
- Grab the opportunities:
When it comes to looking at the practical side of what employees need to do to progress
in their careers, make sure they know what opportunities are available. Opportunities are
not always obvious or easy to find so they need to be proactive and seek them out.
+ Workers can do this by communicating goals and interests to their manager,
colleagues, mentors, and other relevant people in that field.
+ They can also do this by staying updated on the latest trends, and participating in
professional associations or communities.
By grabbing the opportunities that align with their career aspirations, they will not only
gain valuable experience and exposure but also show their initiative, enthusiasm, and
ambition to grow and succeed.
- Step outside your comfort zone:
One of the most important factors for advancing a career is to challenge themselves and
take on new opportunities that stretch employees’ skills and abilities.
+ By stepping outside their comfort zone, they can demonstrate their initiative,
creativity, and adaptability to potential employers or managers, learn new things, expand
their network, and discover new passions or interests.
+ They can step outside their comfort zone by volunteering for projects or tasks that are
unfamiliar or difficult, taking on assignments that require them to learn new skills or
overcome challenges can show their willingness to grow and take risks. Showcasing
potential to handle more responsibilities can lead to growth.
- Take note of your achievements:
+ Keeping track of achievements is a crucial step in career progression. Workers’
achievements are the evidence of their skills, abilities, and value, and they identify
strengths and areas for employees’ improvement.
+ Taking note of their achievements can boost confidence, motivation, and satisfaction
with the work. They can use your achievements to update their resumes, prepare for
performance reviews, negotiate a promotion, or apply for a new job.
+ Taking note of their achievements is simple but it is a powerful way to make a career
progression. They can use a journal, a spreadsheet, or an online tool to record achievements
and update them frequently. Doing this regularly helps them enhance their professional
image, increase career opportunities, and achieve their career goals.
6. Conclusion:
For the reasons above, before deciding to pursue a new career opportunity, make sure
you have carefully considered all the major aspects of job hopping. It may bring short-term
11
joy, but it also poses a significant danger to your future. Understand your situation clearly
and then decide whether to change jobs or not.

to express our deep gratitude to the subject lecturer Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Lan who has taught
valuable knowledge to our group during the recent study period. During our time

We would like to send our sincere thanks to you! 5 THE MAIN CONTENT 1. Introduction:
Career progression is an employee’s “workplace journey”. It encompasses all the steps

The occupation might be interesting, but if they do not feel good in the
company or with the person who will decide their performance, that is enough to ruin the experience.
+ Stress: Transitioning jobs can be stressful, especially if people leave a job that they
have been at for a long time. They may feel anxious about starting over in a new
environment and learning new skills.
4. Advantages and disadvantages of changing the present occupation: a) Advantages: - Higher salary:
The advantage of making a job change is the opportunity for a higher income. Many job
switchers report that they were able to negotiate a higher salary when they accepted a new
position, especially if they were able to effectively showcase their experience and skills to
demonstrate their value to their new employer.
- Better Work-Life Balance:
In addition to these financial benefits, changing to another job can also lead to a better
work-life balance. If employees are currently feeling burnt out or overwhelmed in their 8
current position, it may be time to consider a change that allows them to achieve a better
balance between their personal and professional lives.
They will be exposed to various industries and sectors, new technologies, processes, and
methods, allowing them to learn new approaches to increase their overall expertise and
make them more attractive to potential employers. b) Disadvantages:
- Increase stress and pressure:
Changing your current job can make you stressed and pressured compared to others
because it will take you a very long time to find a suitable job as well as many young
people. It's confusing to find a suitable job, so pressure is inevitable.
- Start again from the zero:
Each new job requires you to learn and adapt to unfamiliar systems and processes.
Furthermore, you will have to get used to the new company culture and prove yourself a
valuable employee every time you change jobs. Building trust and demonstrating your skills takes time.
By grabbing the opportunities that align with their career aspirations, they will not only
gain valuable experience and exposure but also show their initiative, enthusiasm, and ambition to grow and succeed.
It may bring short-term 10
joy, but it also poses a significant danger to your future. Understand your situation clearly
and then decide whether to change jobs or not. REFERENCES:
