CHALLENGE OF CLIMATE CHANGE:
I. Agriculture:
Growing crops has become more complicated: The areas where plants and animals can live
shift and water supplies are diminished. This can lead to food shortages and price volatility
II. Human: Climate change can directly affect people’s physical health. In urban areas, the
warmer atmosphere creates an environment that traps and increases smog. Higher levels of
smog can cause health problems such as asthma, heart disease, and lung cancer.
III. Biodiversity: As the Earth’s condition has changed ecosystems and species either
adapted or died off.
Example: 1. According to a professor at Princeton University claimed that: About 30% of
North American birds have disappeared in the last 50 years.
2. The 2019 forest fire season in Australia, also known as the dark summer, is considered
the most devastating in the country's history. Nearly half a billion wild animals have been
burned in the large-scale forest fire disaster that has been spreading in Australia since
September 2019.
IV. Economy:
Climate change presents a range of risks and impacts that are expected
to negatively impact our economy.
“Climate change threatens communities and sectors across the USA,
including through floods, drought, extreme heat, wildfires, and hurricanes
that affect the economy and the lives of every Americans,” the U.S.
government could spend an additional $25 billion to $128 billion each year
in areas such as coastal disaster relief, flood insurance, crop insurance,
health-care insurance, wildland fire suppression and flooding at federal
facilities.
In Vietnam: The ministry of resources and environment calculated in
the period of 2011-2022, extreme climate caused serious economic
damage, with a total estimated loss of 229. 958 billions VNĐ.
II. Some countries that suffer from climate change
1. Paskistan:
From June to October of 2022, Pakistan was hit by what
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres
described as “monsoon(s) on steroids”. During this time
period, heavy rainfall caused flooding and landslides at a
rate nearly ten times the national 30-year average. The
floods affected nearly 33 million people, damaged 4.4
million acres (about twice the area of Connecticut) of
agricultural land and killed 800,000 livestock.
