BUILDING A WORLD WONDER PROJECT - EII 1 Theme: Tallest Towers
PROJECT DAY: TUESDAY (08/11/2022) in the World
PROJECT NAME: BUILDING A WORLD WONDER (bằằng giấấy) Aims of Project
▪ To learn information about the top tallest buildings in the world and develop
their ability to read infographics, take notes and remember key information.
▪ To work together to plan and build a paper tower using language input
▪ To present their tower to the rest of the class by writing and practising a short presentation in groups. Level Covered EII 1 Time Required 2.25 hours Materials
- A stapler, some newspaper, some paper, some tape, 2 pairs of scissors Needed

The Lesson PowerPoint slides are used to conduct this project. Please read the slides for directions.
Stage 1: Lead in (15 minutes)
● Introduce the topic of tallest towers in the world by introducing the Bitexco Building in Ho Chi Minh (use PowerPoint slides).
● Students in pairs make a list of tallest building in the world that they know.
● Students watch a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uILx3tLS7hQ) and check their predictions.
● Students watch the video again and make notes about the 8 tallest buildings. Page 1/4

Stage 2: Note taking (20 minutes)

● Students supplement their video notes, using the Infographic (have several of these around the room).
● Students check their notes with a partner.
● Mini-whiteboard quiz in pairs (see PowerPoint slides) to check accuracy and completeness of notes.
Stage 3: Superlative focus (15 minutes)

● Demonstrate the superlative form on the PowerPoint.
● Give the students Worksheet 1 which refers to the Infographic poster.
● Students complete the worksheet. Check answers as a class (or use any other technique).
Stage 4: Review and lead in (5 minutes)

● Review the largest tower in the world.
● Lead in to the main task: building a paper tower and giving a group presentation ● (see PowerPoint slides)
Stage 5: Outline of stages in building the tower (10 minutes) GV sẽ giải thích cách làm vào ngày thứ 3 (08/11)
● Put the students into groups of 5.
● Students in groups complete Worksheet 2, which details the 6 stages in today’s lesson. This is important
as it highlights the need for collaborative group work and English. It also signposts that students will
have to give a short presentation about their tower later.
Stage 6: Process Language Input (5 minutes)

● Introduce some process language and encourage students to use it later on when building the tower.
● Drill language and use gestures and mimes. ● Focus on stressed words. Page 2/4

Stage 7: Build a paper tower (30 minutes)
● Students in groups build a paper tower which could support a stapler.
Stage 8: Presentation Language input (10 minutes) SV sẽ sử dụng worksheet 3 để viết bài (bằng
tiếng Anh) giới thiệu bằng tiếng Anh về sản phẩm của nhóm.
● Students complete Worksheet 3 - a model presentation. ● Check answers as a class.
Stage 9: Presentation (20 minutes) Đại diện 1 SV của mỗi nhóm sẽ trình bày bằng tiếng Anh trước
lớp (thỉnh thoảng nhìn vào giấy).
● Students in groups write their presentation.
● Students practise their presentation in their group. Teacher decides the number of presenters from each group.
● In groups the students present their tower and test it with the stapler.
● Ask the students to vote for the best presentation.

Give some feedback on the students’ project work.
Scoring of students’ project work
✔ Successfully build a tower that can hold a stapler for 1 minute: 4 points
● Tallest tower: +2 points
● 2nd tallest tower: +1 point
✔ Finish giving a presentation: 4 points
