The Lady Detective Agency
Rebecca Jane started The Lady Detective Agency in 2006. She started it because she thought her
husband was lying to her. She told the police but they were not interested in helping her. She wanted to
know the truth. She followed her husband and discovered that he was lying to her about many things.
A friend asked her to help investigate her husband, and the Agency was born. “I never wanted to be a
private eye,” says Rebecca, “but the opportunity was there. Of course, I’m not the first female
detective in the world there are many excellent female police detectives but I think we are the first
detective agency to only employ women.”
The Agency has grown very fast, and now the company has offices in London, Manchester and
Stockholm, and has 15 employees. This year, the Agency opened a training school for lady detectives,
and the classes are very popular. Rebecca enjoys teaching other detectives, but mostly she enjoys
helping her clients. “The job is very interesting,” she says. “Every day is different. Tomorrow I’m
going to help a man find his dog, and then I’m going to the US on Friday for a new case.”
In the future, Rebecca Jane intends to open an office in the US. “I have an American client who
asked me to help find her husband. She came to me because there are no female detectives in the US,
and she felt more comfortable talking to a woman about her missing husband. There may be more
women like her who need our help.”
