The importance of ideas in business success
Ideas are the foundation of all business activity. They drive growth by creating new opportunities, allow
companies to stay competitive, and ensure adaptability in rapidly changing markets. Whether it is a
groundbreaking product or a novel way of delivering services, innovative thinking distinguishes
successful firms from stagnant ones.
In Vietnam, this importance is magnified by the country’s unique business environment. The
Vietnamese economy has experienced robust growth in the last two decades, transitioning from
agriculture-based to a more diversified economy with strengths in manufacturing, services, and
technology. Yet this transformation comes with challenges such as global competition, rising consumer
expectations, and the need for sustainability. Businesses that rely solely on traditional methods risk
falling behind, while those that harness new ideas are more likely to succeed.
The most visible example of Vietnamese innovation is VinGroup’s foray into the electric vehicle market
through VinFast. Traditionally known for real estate and retail, VinGroup took a bold step into the high-
tech automobile industry. This decision was driven by the vision of positioning Vietnam as a player in
the global EV market. Despite challenges, the initiative illustrates how a strong idea, combined with
strategic presentation to global investors and markets, can elevate a company’s influence beyond national borders. 2.
The role of idea generation and presentation in innovation
For innovative companies, idea generation plays a central role because success is often tied directly to
the quality and frequency of new ideas. New ideas provide solutions to existing problems, create
opportunities for product development, and help businesses maintain competitiveness in a rapidly
changing market. Companies that encourage creativity and foster a culture where employees are free to
propose and test ideas are more likely to stay ahead of competitors. Without a steady flow of fresh ideas,
innovation efforts quickly stagnate, limiting growth and adaptability.
While generating ideas is crucial, presenting them in a clear and convincing way is equally
important. An idea, no matter how innovative, cannot succeed if it fails to gain support from stakeholders
such as leaders, investors, or team members. Effective presentation involves explaining the problem,
proposing the solution, and demonstrating its potential benefits. This process helps secure resources,
align team efforts, and build trust in the idea’s feasibility. In short, idea presentation transforms creative
thoughts into actionable projects by ensuring buy-in from the right people. 3 4 5
interest. Instead, the presenter should follow a clear structure: begin by identifying and outlining the
existing problem, then propose feasible solutions, highlight the value and benefits of those solutions, and
finally present a concrete implementation plan. This structure guides the audience step by step, from
understanding the nature of the problem, to believing in the effectiveness of the solution, and ultimately
recognizing the practical benefits as well as how they can be applied.
Beyond content, the human factor is equally decisive. A presenter must demonstrate confidence to build
credibility, speak with clarity to ensure the audience fully understands the message, and interact
effectively to turn the session into a two-way dialogue rather than a one-way delivery. Interaction
stimulates discussion, helps the audience feel engaged, and sustains their attention throughout the
presentation. Finally, regular practice, combined with receiving and incorporating feedback from others,
is the key to continuously improving presentation skills and achieving better outcomes at work.
A clear example can be seen in Tiki’s fundraising pitching sessions. During presentations to investors,
Tiki not only focused on providing statistical data about the growth of e-commerce in Vietnam but also
emphasized the practical value the company brings to consumers: fast delivery, authentic products, and
a convenient shopping experience. This style of presentation was based on reliable figures to build
credibility while remaining closely aligned with the needs and behaviors of Vietnamese customers. As a
result, Tiki not only convinced investors of its financial potential but also gained their trust in the
sustainability of its business model. 5. Challenges and Recent Changes in Vietnam Challenges
-Aversion to risk due to traditional business culture: One of the major barriers in forming and presenting
business ideas in Vietnam is the fear of failure. Traditional business culture often emphasizes stability
and is less accepting of risks. This makes many people, especially young people, reluctant to come up
with new or unproven ideas. They often fear being judged, criticized or financially failed, thereby
inhibiting the entrepreneurial spirit and limiting innovation.
-Limited formal training in communication and innovation: Although the education system in Vietnam is
improving, it still lacks systematic training programs on communication skills, project presentation and
innovative thinking. Most students, especially in traditional engineering or economics fields, are not
equipped with professional presentation skills, making it difficult for them to approach investors or
convince customers. This is a major 6 7 8 9 THE TABLE OF EVALUATION Number Name Reviews The results 1 Vũ Thị Thùy 2 Thu Phương 3 Nguyễn Thu Phương 4 Kiều Phương Thảo 5 Nông Minh Thụy 6 Nguyễn Tiến Thành 10
