When we put stress on a word, it has a strong beat.
When we don't put stress on a word, it has a weak beat.

The voice falls on the final stressed syllable of a group of words (falling
intonation), common in wh-questions.

The voice rises at the last syllable of the last word (rising intonation) in yes / no questions.

We use fall-rise intonation when we are not sure.
