HOW TO MAINTAIN MENTAL HEALTH
1. Exercise
Exercise is not only important for our physical health, but our mental wellbeing as
well. Regular exercise releases endorphins which make us happy naturally. According
to an article from Mayo Clinic exercise can release feel-good endorphins and other
natural brain chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, oxytoxin that can enhance your
sense wellbeing.
2. Get enough sleep
Adults need a good 8 hours of sleep each night. We need a good night’s rest to
recharge with enough energy for the next day. Not getting your 8 hours of sleep
everyday has been shown to negatively affect your mental health. What makes
thing worse is 60 to 90% of patients with depression also have insomnia according
to the Sleep Health Foundation. So, people whose emotional wellbeing may already
be suffering are possibly causing further health problems by not being able to get
their full rest.
3. Diet
Eating a balanced diet and stay hydrated can give you a constant supply of energy
throughout the day and nutrition food can help you reduce stress. Furthermore, eating
your favorite and delicious food will increase your feeling of happiness. So, try to
build a scientific diet, add all essential groups of nutrients like protein, fat,
carbohydrate, fiber to your daily meals.
4. Practice positive thinking
Research continues to show that your thoughts about yourself strongly affect how you
feel. The best way to change any negative feelings you may have is to counteract
them with a positive one. According to psychologist, Patricia Harteneck, when we
perceive ourselves and our life negatively it can prevent us from enjoying
experiences, drain our energy and also make us feel anxious and depressed, instead
practice using words that promote feelings of self-worth and personal power.
5. Spend time with family, friends and yourself
Being with our loved ones always makes us feel good and comfortable. Eating
delicious meals with them, sharing your thoughts or going out together are the best
things ever. You should also spend time for yourself because the older we get, the
busier we will be. That’s why don’t forget to take care of yourself like spending time
doing the things you love. Enjoy life, relax more and don’t put too much pressure on
yourself.

6. Be friend with nature
A simple thing you can do is take a walk in nature. Imagine, what could be more
wonderful than the green grass between your toes, the blue sky above your head, the
warm sun and the wind blows over your face. A simple walk in nature can have the
ability to boost your mental wellbeing according to research published in the Journal
of Positive Psychology. A 2019 study from Canadian researchers found that merely
5 minutes of contact with the natural world improves mood, human health, self-
esteem and emotional wellbeing.
