Miguel’s family. From the beginning of the film, we have known that Miguel’s family
members live together, share every household duties and and even work together in
their home bussiness: shoemaking.

prohibited for family’s sake and obviously except for Miguel everyone totally sticks
to the rule, which shows strong bonds in family relationships.
Next, related to Miguel’s family but in the the world of the dead, family members
also stand side by side in order to support each other, stay away from music and even
avoid Miguel from his musical dreams as the people in the living world.

a collectivist culture which is Collectivism, according to Hostefe.
b. Next, the way Miguel’s family displays images of ancestors on the altar is also a
fundamental point to attach to Hostefe’s dimensions. They display images of

From this point, wecognize that they are in a long term orientation where savings and
preservance dominance.
c. Even though Miguel’s family donnot agree with his musical ambition, somehow, they
still show love and sympathy towards him and are extremely worried when he is
absent from home for a long time; not to mention that they are willing to forgive
Miguel’s mistakes and support him.
Hector has made an enormous effort into coming back to his daughter even De Crus
persuades him to stay and he is also the one who has written a song for Coco to show
his endless love.
Two points above prove feminity cultures where sensibilily, care are over power,
determination or ambition.
d. Miguel family members are prohibited to places where there is music, working hard
everyday at the shoe store. This detail reflect restraint culture where
human nature and life enjoyment should be limited by social
norms.
e. Miguel doesn’t dare to express his musical dreams because he is afraid of breaking
the family’s rules and destroying the family relationship. Moreover, great great
grandma is afraid of falling into the old path like her husband because she
always assumes that Hector has abandoned his family to follow his
musical dreams; therefore, she has made a rule of prohibiting following
the music path.
Two details reveal high certain avoidance where people are like ly
to worry about their future.
