INTRODUCTION!
1. This topic covers Part 1 of the SPM Reading Paper (Kertas 1[1119/1]).
2. This part of the paper consists of a text of about 350 to 450 words.
Six sentences have been removed from it and placed in jumbled
order after the text.
3. The questions test your ability to:
understand the main points in extended texts
understand specific details and information in extended texts
guess the meaning of unfamiliar words from clues provided by other
words and by context
recognize typical features at word, sentence and text levels
SPM EXAMINATION GUIDELINES
TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
Read the entire gapped
passage from start to finish.
Think about what information
might be missing and make a
brief note in each space.

Read the missing sentences (A -
H) that have been pulled out
from the passage. Underline any
reference words such as main
nouns, pronouns and tenses.

After you have placed all the
sentences into the gaps, go back
and read the text to see if it
sounds right. If not, find
sentences which sound out of
place

You don't have to start with
the first gap. Start with the
easiest gap first and work
your way up to the hardest
one.

When matching the sentences
with the gaps, check what is
before and ahead of the gaps.

Check all your answers. Make
sure you have filled all the
gaps before moving on to
the next part.
