Sporting events have been organized globally in order to promote nationalism and bring
people together.
However, some people think that these events are a waste of time and money.
Do you agree or disagree with that statement?
Write an essay of at least 250 words to give reasons for your answer and include any
relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.
Many people hold the view that sporting events that aim to promote nationalistic sentiments
and foster unity across borders, arranged worldwide, are futile and squandering resources. While I
think sporting events can bring people together regardless of their nationality, race or religion, I
disagree with view that these events are a waste of time and money. This essay will address the
reasons for my views as follows.
To begin with, a great deal of advocates are inclined towards the fact thatsporting events
also provide a platform for athletes from different countries to showcase their skills and talent on a
global stage. This is because healthy competition and helps to raise the standard of sports. As a
result, sports fans around the world are entertained and inspired by the performances of their
respective national teams and athletes. Additionally, it is also true to say that they provide a platform
for athletes to achieve their dreams, inspire others, and break barriers of discrimination.
On the other hand, some people argue that the costs associated with organizing major
sporting events often outweigh the benefits. The construction of sports facilities and infrastructure
can be prohibitively expensive, and the costs of hosting such events can leave lasting economic and
environmental impacts on host cities.
In conclusion, while sporting events can certainly promote nationalism and bring people
together, it is important to consider the costs and benefits associated with hosting such events.
Ultimately, it is up to individual nations and communities to weigh these factors and decide whether
the benefits of hosting major sporting events outweigh the costs.
