In order to solve traffic problems, governments should tax
private car owners heavily and use the money to improve
public transportation. What are the advantages and
disadvantages of such a solution?
Body 1
+ dissuade many individuals from buying their cars -> a
decrease in the number of private cars on the road and a
reduction in traffic congestion.
public transportation, such as buses and trains - become more
popular-> fewer vehicles on the road and greater air quality
+ tax can be used to improve public transport.
build better roads and well equipped bus stations and railway
stations -> boost infrastructural development in the country.
Body 2
+ take a heavy toll on those who reside in areas where they do
not have easy access to public transport.
VD farmers need their own vehicle to get to the nearest bus
station or train station -> unfair for them to suffer higher tax.
+ buying cars to avoid taxes -> an adverse impact on car
manufacturers an acute drop in sales and profit + employees -
not be paid appropriately -> unemployment + affect the
economic growth of the country
It is suggested that governments should tax private car owners
heavily and use the money to improve public transportation so
as to solve traffic problems. Although this phenomenon brings
several benefits, the drawbacks should not be overlooked.
The benefits of taxing private car owners are various. For one
thing, it can dissuade many individuals from buying their cars,
leading to a decrease in the number of private cars on the road
and the popularity of public transport such as bus or train. As a
result, vehicles on the road will become fewer and fewan in
order to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. For another
thing, tax can be used to improve public transport. In fact, it can
be used for building better roads and well equipped bus stations
and railway stations in order to boost infrastructural
development in the country.
Nevertheless, the drawbacks of car owner tax should be taken
into consideration. Firstly, it take a heavy toll on those who
reside in areas where they do not have easy access to public
transport. For example, farmers need their own vehicle to get to
the nearest bus station or train station and it is very unfair for
them to suffer higher tax. Secondly, some people will buy cars to
avoid taxes, which causes an adverse impact on car
manufacturers an acute drop in sales and profit, as well as the
lack of adequate pay for workers. As a consequence,
unemployment rate will increase dramatically and affect
adversely the economic growth of the country.
In conclusion, although taxing private car owners may bring
some obvious disadvantages, I would contend that the
advantages are still outweighed by the disadvantages.
