COURSE POLICIES
A. Grades
Late work policy: There are no make-ups for the midterm, or the final
exam. Written projects turned in late will be assessed a penalty: 5% loss of
the associated point value of the assignment each date it is late.
Group work policy: Everyone must take part in a group oral presentation
and/or written project. All members of a group will receive the same score;
that is, the project is assessed, and everyone receives this score. Once
formed, groups cannot be altered or switched, except for reasons of
extended hospitalization.
B. Technology and media
Students are encouraged to contact with the instructor via email beside
class hours.
The LMS guidance and email address will be provided at the beginning of
the course.
C. Student expectations
Attendance policy: Attendance will be taken at the beginning of every
class meeting. If you are more than fifteen minutes late, you will be marked
with an absence. You should be present in each and every class meeting
(though understandably things sometimes come up.) Some advanced notice
would be appreciated if you know you will be absent, and you are expected
you to exchange your contact information with a few other classmates so
that if you are out, you can contact them for information on what you missed
in class. You are responsible for getting the information you missed. Please
keep in mind that each time you are absent, you miss a lot of in-class
discussion that may affect your overall understanding of the topics being
covered and inevitably your performance.
Professionalism policy: Attendance is required both physically and
mentally. You are expected to take an active role in class discussions. Also,
please make sure your phone is off or on buzz (and buried deep inside your
backpack), so it’s not heard while in class. Save your text messaging for
after class or at break.
Academic integrity
Students are supposed to:
i. Read the materials and complete assignments required for each
class meeting beforehand.
ii. Actively participate in contributing to develop the lesson.
iii. Refer to extra materials and complete related to the assignments,
investigate and explore further on their own about some issues already
5

discussed in class and practice translation exercises to present in front
of the class.
iv. Make necessary preparation according to the teacher’s requirements.
6
lOMoARcPSD| 39651089
v. Participate at least 80% of the class meetings; any absence must come
with proper reasons and the teacher’s permission.
vi. Avoid any cheating and plagiarism. All kinds of cheating and plagiarism
will not be tolerated.
TOP FIVE LEARNING TIPS:
1. Read the syllabus and weekly course materials carefully.
2. Set aside time needed for coursework. 5-7 hours per week can be expected. Stay on top
of assignments and meet due dates; do not procrastinate until deadlines.
3. Keep in contact with the instructor and other students.
4. Ask questions and actively participate in discussions, and other activities.
5. Venture beyond the classroom the material provided in class is just the
