I. INTRODUCTION TO VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
1.1. Definition and influence projects
A project is a planned and temporary activity designed to achieve specific
goals and create unique results within a defined time frame. It usually involves
organizing resources, managing tasks, and coordinating people to reach the
desired outcome. One important feature of projects is that they are purposeful
and structured, often involving teamwork, planning, and problem-solving to
reach successful results. Another characteristic is their uniqueness, since each
project is created to respond to a particular need or challenge, making its
process and outcomes different from others. Projects influence individuals,
organizations, and society by encouraging innovation, solving problems, and
improving efficiency. They also create opportunities for growth, learning, and
positive change in many areas of life.
1.2. Main Topic: Volunteer project in remote areas
Volunteering is about dedicating time and effort to support others, creating
positive impacts for both society and ourselves. The project "Connecting with
Love" focuses on supporting SOS Children’s Village in Viet Tri, Phu Tho,
where many children face the loss of family care and struggles with food,
education, and healthcare. Through this project, volunteers provide practical
support such as clothes, books, and school supplies, while also sharing love,
encouragement, and hope with disadvantaged children. More than just
improving the lives of orphans, the project helps young people strengthen their
sense of social responsibility and foster meaningful connections between urban youth and rural communities.
II. MAIN DISCUSSION
2.1. Defining a project The "Connecting with Love" project is a community-based volunteer initiative led by the ABC Volunteer Club and students from Thuongmai
University. This project aims to provide comprehensive support to children at the SOS Children's Village in Viet Tri, Phu Tho. The core objective is to improve the children's living conditions, educational opportunities, and emotional well-being by combining material donations with engaging,
interactive activities. The project seeks to create an environment that is both materially sufficient and emotionally
nurturing, thereby motivating the
children's personal and academic growth. 4 2.2. Project steps 2.2.1. Project planning This foundational phase ensures the project's smooth and effective
execution. The goals are defined using the SMART framework: -Specific: The project will organize a series of interactive activities,
including skill-based workshops (drawing, storytelling), team games, and
a cultural performance. Concurrently, it will conduct fundraising and
material donation drives for school supplies, books, clothes, and food.
-Measurable: The project aims to collect at least 500 books, 100 school
supply kits, and raise 15 million VND to purchase food and necessities. It
will also organize at least five interactive sessions and a final cultural show.
-Achievable: Given the reputable standing of the ABC Volunteer Club and
Thuongmai University, fundraising and volunteer recruitment are highly feasible. -Relevant: The project aligns with the club's mission and provides
practical social value, while offering students an opportunity to develop soft skills.
-Time-bound: The entire project will be completed over a six-week period,
commencing in the first week of October and concluding at the end of November 2025.
Detailed Breakdown of Objectives: -Educational Support: The goal is to enhance the children's learning
quality and equip them with soft skills.
+ Activities include establishing a "Library of Love" by donating at least
500 books of various genres, holding "Skill Workshops" on drawing and
storytelling, and presenting 100 school supply kits to the children.
-Material Support: The objective is to ensure the children have access to essential goods.
+ Activities involve raising funds to purchase 150 kg of food, collecting
200 sets of warm clothes and personal items, and providing 50 special
gift packages, each containing personal care products and a toy.
-Emotional Support: The aim is to connect with and emotionally uplift the
children through genuine affection.
+ Activities include organizing a "Cultural & Game Festival" to foster
interaction and fun, implementing a "1:1 Connection Program" where 5
volunteers engage in one-on-one conversations with a child, and setting
up a "Creative Corner" for artistic expression.
2.2.2. Project Initiation
This phase translates the plan into a structured and actionable framework.
Team Formation and Role Assignment: - Steering Committee (1 Lead, 2 Vice-Leads): Responsible for overall
management, plan approval, and reporting. - Content & Activities Team (10 members): Designs the interactive
program, game scripts, and skill workshops.
- Logistics & Donations Team (15 members): Manages, sorts, and packs
donations. Compiles shopping lists for food and supplies. - Communications Team (5 members): Creates content and designs
materials (posters, videos), and manages social media channels. - Fundraising Team (10 members): Develops the fundraising plan,
identifies potential sponsors, and organizes small-scale events.
Establishing Contact with the Venue:
- A formal letter of intent, endorsed by Thuongmai University's Board of
Directors, will be sent to the management of the SOS Children's Village.
- A meeting will be arranged to discuss and finalize details such as the
number of volunteers, specific timing, and activities to ensure they do not
disrupt the children's daily routine. Detailed Timeline: - Weeks 1-2 (October): Detailed planning, team assignments, and
submitting the formal letter to SOS Village. - Weeks 3-4 (October): Launching communication and fundraising campaigns.
- Week 1 (November): Consolidating donations and funds, finalizing the shopping list.
- Week 2 (November): Preparing all necessary supplies and personal items for the trip.
- Week 3 (November): Executing the two-day volunteer trip to the SOS Children's Village.
-Week 4 (November): Project review and reporting. 6
2.2.3. Project Execution
Once everything is prepared, the execution stage will begin. This phase
involves the volunteers implementing the plan and directly engaging with the
children. The execution will be divided into several categories of activities:
- Educational Activities: We will conduct short tutoring sessions in English
and math, storytelling hours, and book reading circles. These activities
will provide immediate academic assistance while also encouraging the
children to develop a long-term interest in learning. - Recreational Activities: Volunteers
will organize traditional games,
singing competitions, and art workshops where children can draw, paint,
and create crafts. These activities will allow the children to express their
creativity and build self-confidence.'
- Improving Facilities: Teams of volunteers will repaint classrooms, clean
the playground, and repair broken furniture. Even small improvements
can significantly enhance the daily lives of the children.
- Donations: The fundraising team will prepare gifts, including clothes,
toys, stationery, and books, gathered beforehand. These donations will be
distributed respectfully and compassionately, ensuring that the children feel valued.
The execution stage will be the heart of the project, where all preparation and planning come to fruition. 2.2.4. Project Closure
After completing the activities, we will move to the closure stage. The
main tasks here will include evaluating the project, reflecting on the results, and
preparing for the future. First, we will collect feedback from the orphanage staff
and the children to understand their experiences during the project. Second, we
will hold a reflection meeting among the volunteers to discuss achievements,
challenges, and lessons learned. Third, we will write a final report that includes
statistics, photos, and personal stories. This report will be shared with our club members, the university , and our sponsors as a means of demonstrating accountability
. Finally, we will propose ideas for the next project, possibly
focusing on long-term tutoring or annual fundraising programs. Properly closing
the project is crucial as it ensures that our efforts do not conclude after one trip
but instead grow into sustainable contributions.
2.3. Benefits of Doing Projects 7
We expect this project to generate multiple benefits for all involved. For
the children, the benefits will be both immediate and visible. They will receive new educational materials, enjoy improved learning spaces, and have opportunities for joy through games and creative activities. Beyond these
material benefits, the children will also feel cared for and supported by people
outside their community, which can help build their confidence and optimism for the future.
For the volunteers, this project will be a valuable learning experience. They will have the chance to develop teamwork and leadership skills by
collaborating on a large-scale initiative. Their communication and problem-
solving abilities will also improve, as volunteers interact with local authorities,
sponsors, and children in real-life situations. More importantly, the volunteers
will cultivate empathy and social awareness, realizing that social responsibility
is not merely an abstract concept but something that can be practiced through concrete actions. On a broader level, the project will also benefit the community . By
fostering connections between students, local authorities, and NGOs, the project
will raise awareness of the importance of supporting disadvantaged children.
This may inspire other groups or organizations to undertake similar initiatives. 2.4. Challenges
One of the biggest challenges we may face during this volunteer project is the
lack of sufficient resources and financial support. Collecting enough learning
materials, school supplies, and funds for the children can be difficult, especially
when relying mainly on donations. Another challenge is maintaining active
participation and commitment from all team members. Since everyone has
different schedules, it can be hard to coordinate time for planning, travelling,
and organizing activities. Furthermore, building trust and creating emotional
bonds with the children may take time, as they might feel shy or hesitant at first
when interacting with new people. 2.5. Solutions
To overcome these challenges, we can organize fundraising campaigns and
collaborate with local businesses, schools, and community groups to gather
more educational materials and financial support. We can also assign clear roles
and responsibilities to each team member to keep everyone motivated and
accountable throughout the project. To build stronger connections with the 8
children, we will design fun and interactive activities, such as games, art
workshops, and storytelling sessions, which will help them feel comfortable and
open up gradually. With careful planning and teamwork, we can create a
positive impact and bring hope, love, and better educational opportunities to the children at the village. 9 III. CONCLUSION
The volunteer project at SOS Children’s Village in Viet Tri – Phu Tho was far
more than a simple community activity. It was a meaningful journey that
reflected the power of compassion, teamwork, and social responsibility. What
started as a modest plan—gathering donations, organizing games, repairing
facilities, and offering educational support—soon grew into something much
deeper. It became an opportunity to connect with children, to understand their
needs and to provide them not only with material help but also with love,
encouragement, and hope. The children’s smiles and laughter throughout the
activities reminded us that even small efforts can bring immeasurable joy.
For the volunteers, this project was also a valuable personal experience. It
allowed us to step beyond the comfort of our everyday lives and face real
challenges in society. Each obstacle—whether it was limited resources,
transportation issues, or time constraints—was a chance for us to learn
resilience, creativity, and collaboration. We discovered that leadership is not
only about giving orders but about listening, motivating others, and finding
solutions together. Teamwork, empathy, and a willingness to take responsibility
became the keys that helped us succeed. Through this, we grew not only as
students and volunteers but also as more mature and caring individuals. The
most significant outcome of this project is not the donations given or the
facilities repaired, but the bonds formed between the volunteers and the
children. We came to give, but we also received—received lessons, gratitude,
and a renewed sense of humanity. This mutual exchange is what makes
volunteering so powerful. It teaches us that when we give love, we do not lose
it; instead, it multiplies and comes back in unexpected ways.
In conclusion, volunteer projects in general play a vital role in building stronger
communities and nurturing compassion among individuals. These projects,
whether they focus on education, healthcare, environment, or supporting
disadvantaged groups, share a common purpose: to create positive and lasting
change. They allow volunteers to step outside their comfort zones, learn
teamwork, develop leadership skills, and most importantly, understand the value
of giving. While challenges such as limited resources, time, or logistics may
arise, they also offer opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, and
collaboration. Moreover, volunteer projects remind us that meaningful
contributions are not measured only by material support but also by the
kindness, encouragement, and hope we bring to others. Ultimately, volunteering 10
is a two-way journey: while communities benefit from the support, volunteers
themselves grow into more responsible, empathetic, and socially conscious
individuals. This is why volunteer projects are not just temporary activities but
essential movements toward a more caring and sustainable society. 11 IV. REFERENCES
