1. The faculty’s formation, develoment, and specialities
Faculty of Accounting and Auditing is originally Faculty of Business Accounting
which was founded in November, 1984 separated from Faculty of Trade Planning
Management under Decision No. 1310/QĐ-TCCB on 24th November, 1984 by Minnistry
of University and Specialied Middle School (now Ministry of Education and Training -
MOET). At foundation, the faculty consisted of 3 departments of Analysis accounting,
Statistics, and Information Processing. On 14th November, 1994, under Decision No.
3328/GD-ĐT by MOET, the faculty was renamed as Faculty of Accounting and Finance
and reorganized into 4 departments of Analysis accounting, Corporate finance, Statistics,
and Informatics. In 2005, due to the society’s demands, the university’s development, and
the training program innovation under the credit system, the department of Informatics
was transferred to another faculty, so Faculty of Accounting and Finance was restructured
including the following departments: Cororate Accounting, Basic Accounting, Corporate
Finance, and Analysis Statistics. In 2007, the university set up several new specialized
faculties, and department of Corporate finance was transferred to another faculty. In
2008, the faculty established Department of Auditing. At the same time, the departments
were also renamed to match their functions and responsibilities. Today Faculty of
Accounting and Auditing consist of 4 departments and 1 Centre including Departments of
Financial accounting, Management Accounting, Auditing, and Analysis Statistics and
Centre of Accounting and Auditing Training and Transfer.
Over 30 years of formation and development, the faculty has gained a number of
achievements in terms of training, science research, and staff development. The faculty’s
labor force has continuously developed in both quality and quantity. At present, the
faculty has 49 official lecturers and office workers, all MA or higher including 5 A/Prof.,
18 PhDs, 32 MA, 4 Senior Lecturers, 7 main lecturers, and 4 A/Profs working as
concurrent lecturers. Given the practical training orientation, the faculty’s staff has
continuously upgraded their professional ability and skills and updated advanced training
programs inside and outside the country. Especially, with the university’s support, the
faculty’s lecturers have many opportunities to study in foreign universities to improve
their teaching and science research quality. Some of the lecturers graduate from Canada,
France, Australia, Japan, and the US.
The faculty is resonsible for managing and training the major of Accounting with
the speciality of Corporate accounting. Currently, the faculty is building the speciality of
Public accounting to meet the demand for accounting human resources of administrative units and other public units.
The faculty is now providing tertiary training of specialities of Corporate
accounting for regular students, Cororate accounting for advanced students, Corporate
accounting for students in transition from intermediate schools and colleges to university,
and sandwich training programs from other specialities.
In terms of higher education, the faculty takes part in building the training
programs and subjects for courses training PhD and MA of accounting; all PhDs and
higher participate in teaching for higher education and post-graduate courses.
Besides, the faculty also teaches for the international cooperation programs at
university and master levels between Thuongmai University and France, Canada,
Australia, etc. carried out by Faculty of International Training.
Over its building and development, the faculty has always been one of the leading
specialized faculties of Thuongmai University. The faculty’s students after graduation
have well met the society’s demands. The faculty has made good prestige of accounting
and auditing among Vietnamese universities in the economic bloc and continuously
attempted to create a high quality training environment, an ideal choice for students of economics in Vietnam.
Other than teaching as its main function and responsibility, the faculty always pays
attention to science research at all levels.
