1. Câu khẳng định và phủ định
- Động từ tường thuật thường là said/told
VD1: She said “I have seen him today”
She said that she had seen him that day. (lùi 1 thì của động từ trong ngoặc kép)
VD2: The teacher said to James “The gift was not given to you”
The teacher told James that the gift had not been given to him
Chú ý: câu gốc có said to told 2. Câu hỏi
- Động từ tường thuật thường là asked/wondered/wanted to know (hỏi/tự hỏi/muốn biết)
a. Yes/No question (thêm if/whether)
VD1: She asked me “Do you like him?”
She asked me if/whether you liked him (lùi 1 thì của câu trên)
VD2: He said “Can you speak English, Joey?” (câu hỏi có tên riêng ở cuối thì chuyển
phải để sau từ để hỏi)
He asked Joey if/whether he could speak English
b. WH question (không thêm if/whether mà cứ viết liền luôn)
VD1: He said “What is her name?”
He asked what her name was
VD2: She said to him “Where do you live?”
She asked him where he lived
c. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu, đề nghị, lời khuyên,…
- Động từ tường thuật thường là told/asked/ordered/commanded/requested
(bảo/yêu cầu/ ra lệnh)
Dạng khẳng định
S + asked/told + O + to V
VD1: The teacher said “Go to the board, James”
The teacher told James to go to the board.
Dạng phủ định
S + asked/told + O + not to V
VD2: Laura said to her friend “Don’t go outside”
