Read the passage carefully and choose an option that best answers each question.
1. Few freshwater fish capture the imagination quite like lake sturgeon, which belongs to a family of fish
that dates back to the time of the dinosaurs 135 million years ago.
2. Such ancient fish may seem like the ultimate survivors. Still, modern challenges, including overfishing,
poor water quality, and barriers to movement, have led to dramatic declines in the abundance of lake
sturgeon. Once common throughout the central United States, these fish are now listed as either threatened
or endangered by 19 of the 20 states within their original U.S. range.
3. Efforts to save the species have surged in recent decades mainly due to public attention to the fish and
innovative new partnerships. In 2017, the River Alliance of Wisconsin, a private hydroelectric dam
operator, and multiple state and federal agencies marked the completion of a project to ensure lake sturgeon
could safely pass through or around two large dams.
4. Associate director of the River Alliance of Wisconsin, Sharon White explained, “Sturgeon have a home
river. If the Menominee is the home river, then biologically, that's where they have to go to spawn. Before
this project, sturgeon could only get a mile upstream. By working with a private hydro-operator and state
and federal agencies, we've been able to add an additional 20 miles of spawning habitat for these fish.” The
project includes a fish elevator and sorting tank to choose the best adult sturgeon to transport upstream to
spawn. Other improvements keep juvenile sturgeon from being sucked into the dam's turbines on their way
downstream to Lake Michigan.
Câu 1: What is the passage mainly about?
A. Collaborating in culturing and growing sturgeon.
B. Providing safe places for sturgeon to spawn.
C. Making efforts to conserve sturgeon's habitats.
D. Assisting ancient fish survive in modern times.
Câu 2: According to paragraph 2, what is TRUE about sturgeon?
A. The central United States is a popular region for these ancient fish.
B. Such ancient fish are certainly the most successful survivors.
C. Most states in the US have listed sturgeon on the brink of extinction.
D. Modern issues have led to a sharp decline in sturgeon populations.
Câu 3: In paragraph 3, what is the word ‘surged' closest in meaning to?
A. increased B. approved C. estimated D. accumulated
Câu 4: In paragraph 4, what does the word ‘they' refer to?
A. sturgeon B. miles C. agencies D. upstream
Câu 5: What can be inferred from paragraph 4?
A. There have been changes made to increase sturgeon consumption.
B. The project seeks to assist sturgeon during their reproductive process.
C. Spawning habitats of sturgeon have been narrowed due to dams.
D. The project has been made to create suitable habitats for sturgeon.

Read the passage carefully.
1. In our connected globalized world, the languages which dominate communications and business,
Mandarin, Hindi, English, Spanish and Russian amongst others, are placing small languages spoken in
remote places under increasing pressure. Fewer and fewer people speak languages such as Liki, Taushiro
and Dumi as their children shift away from the language of their ancestors towards languages which
promise education, success and the chance of a better life. While to many parents, this may appear a
reasonable choice, giving their offspring the opportunity to achieve the sort of prosperity they see on
television, the children themselves often lose touch with their roots. However, in many places the more
reasonable option of bilingualism, where children learn to speak both a local and a national language, is
being promoted. This gives hope that many endangered languages will survive, allowing people to combine
their links to local tradition with access to wider world culture.
2. While individuals are free to choose if they wish to speak a minority language, national governments
should be under no obligation to provide education in an economically unproductive language, especially
in times of budget constraints. It is generally accepted that national languages unite and help to create
wealth while minority regional languages divide. Furthermore, governments have a duty to ensure that
young people can fulfill their full potential, meaning that state education must provide them with the ability
to speak and work in their national language and so equip them to participate responsibly in national affairs.
People whose language competence does not extend beyond the use of a regional tongue have limited
prospects. This means that while many people may feel a sentimental attachment to their local language,
their government's position should be one of benign neglect, allowing people to speak the language, but not
acting to prevent its eventual disappearance.
3. Many PhD students studying minority languages lack the resources to develop their language skills,
with the result that they have to rely on interpreters and translators to communicate with speakers of the
language they are studying. This has a detrimental effect on the quality of their research. At the same time,
they have to struggle against the frequently expressed opinion that minority languages serve no useful
purpose and should be allowed to die a natural death. Such a view fails to take into account the fact that a
unique body of knowledge and culture, built up over thousands of years, is contained in a language and that
language extinction and species extinction are different facets of the same process. They are part of an
impending global catastrophe which is beginning to look unavoidable.
(Adapted from Complete Advanced by Guy Brook - Hart and Simon Haines)
Câu 1: Which of the following could best serve as the main topic of the passage?
A. The threat to minority languages in different parts of the world.
B. The domination of business languages all over the world.
C. The shift from regional to national languages in many countries.
D. The benefits of national languages in modern world.
Câu 2: According to the first paragraph, why do many parents consider the change towards national
languages a reasonable choice?
A. Because not many people nowadays are familiar with the language of their ancestors.
B. Because children now can learn to speak both a local and a national language.
C. Because their children may have a chance to achieve education, success and better living condition.
D. Because their children may help to combine their links to local tradition with access to wider world
culture.

Read the passage and choose the correct answer to each of the following questions.
Trả lời câu hỏi từ câu 1 đến câu 5:
Did you know your brain changes and grows as you learn new things? Like a muscle, your brain gets
stronger the more you use it. Your brain's amazing ability to adapt is called neuroplasticity.
The “neuro” in “neuroplasticity” relates to neurons. Neurons are nerve cells. They are the building blocks
of the brain and nervous system. They interpret information that comes from the outside world. They also
send signals to other neurons. When neurons in your brain are activated in a certain pattern, the connections
between those neurons get stronger. As a result, it becomes easier for your brain to activate the same pattern
in the future. In other words, every time you do a task, like throwing a ball, your brain remembers it. Next
time, the task will be a little easier.
Strengthening our neural connections doesn't just happen when we do something correctly. It also happens
when we make mistakes! Neurons in your brain register when you make a mistake, and your brain rewires
itself to improve next time. Every time we make a mistake, we are strengthening our brain's neural
pathways.
Brain science shows us that if we aren't afraid to make mistakes, we can improve and accomplishdifficult
things. Having a growth mindset can help us do that. A growth mindset is the belief that mistakes are not
failures, but instead are opportunities for growth. And it's true! Even when you make mistakes doing a
challenging task, you are expanding your brain's capabilities. And as you try different ways to accomplish
something, you are learning and building your brain's connections!
Câu 1. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Myth of Fixed Intelligence: Exposing Neuroplasticity
B. The Risk of Making Mistakes: Strengthening Your Brain's Neurons

Read the passage and choose the correct answer to each of the following questions.
1. A few decades ago, professional footballers spent their nights partying. Now, they are much more aware
of the benefits of a good night's sleep.
2. The change began in the mid-1990s, when club managers began to pay more attention to scientific sleep
research, and for good reason. In 2011, sleep specialist Cheri Mah discovered that increasing sleep to 8-10
hours per night massively increased the speed and shot accuracy of basketball players. Other research shows
that a single night of inadequate sleep can increase the risk of injury, and 64 hours of bad sleep reduces
strength, power, and balance!
3. Consequently, managers started trying to improve their players' sleep. Southampton Football Club's
manager Alek Gross, for example, forbade his players from consuming caffeine, sugar, or fatty foods, which
prevent sleep, in the evenings. Instead, they were given milky protein drinks which made them tired. The
Mexico team manager was also concerned about sleep loss when travelling to their World Cup group games
in Russia. Together with Manchester United sports scientist Robin Thorpe, he drew up a sleep and training
schedule to optimize performance. Even the hotel bedrooms were set to the ideal sleeping temperature. On
the evening of a game, he even asked fans who were celebrating at the same hotel to keep quiet because the
team were sleeping. The intervention was a great success. Mexico won their next game versus South Korea
and even beat Germany in their group.
4. Now, many teams and players are making an effort to improve their sleep patterns, using various means.
Since most interventions are cheap and effective, even the less well-known teams can benefit. Apparently,
whereas in the past, playing after a party and a few hours' sleep was seen as a badge of honour, a good sleep
is now considered an essential part of performance.

1. Except for a few unfortunate individuals, no law in this world can go against the fact that for most of us
our family is an essential part of our lives. The moment you enter this cruel world, where each man is for
himself, there are some near and dear ones out there who will do anything to ensure your happiness.
2. We are nothing more than a vulnerable and fragile object, without someone taking care of us on our
arrival in this world. Despite all the odds, your family will take care of your wellbeing, and try their best to
provide you the greatest comforts in the worled. No one out there, except your family must forgive the
endless number of mistakes you may make in your life. Apart from teaching you forgive and forget lessons,
they are always there for you, when you need them the most.
3. Family is the only place where children study a lot after school. In school, teachers teach children about
the subjects which will help them to find a good job in future. But at home, parents teach children about
good habits. They are not only the elements which help the children to shape their personalities but they
also prepare them a suitable and bright future.
4. A good family makes a greater society. Father, mother, and children have to work in order to build a
strong family. If any one of them fails, the whole family may collapse. The good name of the whole family
can be ruined by a single member of the family. In order to avoid that unhappy scenario, every family
member has to work hard and try their best. As a result, they will set good examples for the whole society.
Families have a powerful impact on society and societies create countries.

1. In the early 1800s, less than 3% of the world's population lived in cities; today, more than half of the
global population is urban and by 2050, the proportion will rise to three quarters. There are thousands of
small and medium-sized cities along with more than 30 megacities and sprawling, networked metropolitan
areas conurbations with 15 million residents or more. Yet despite these massive transformations in
how people live and interact, our international affairs are still largely dictated by nation states, not cities.
2. Cities are beginning to flex their muscles on the international stage. They are already displacing nation
states as the central nodes of the global economy, generating close to 80% of global GDP. Cities like New
York and Tokyo are bigger in GDP terms than many G-20 countries.
3. Metropolitan regions and special economic zones are linking global cities through transnational supply
chains. A growing number of mega-regions, such as those linking cities in Mexico and the US, transcend
borders. In the process, cities are collectively forging common regional plans, trading partnerships, and
infrastructure corridors.
4. The spectacular rise of cities did not happen by accident. Cities channel creativity, connect human capital,
and when well governed, they drive growth. That many cities and their residents are rolling up their sleeves
and getting things done where nations have failed are grounds for optimism. In the future, we hope
that it is our proximate, accountable, and empowered city leaders who will define our fates.

1. Stars have been significant features in the design of many United States coins and their number has
varied from one to forty-eight stars. Most of the coins issued from about 1799 to the early years of the
twentieth century bore thirteen stars representing the thirteen original colonies.
2. Curiously enough, the first American silver coins, issued in 1794, had fifteen stars because by that time
Vermont and Kentucky have joined the Union. At that time it was apparently the intention of mint officials
to add a star for each new state. Following the admission of Tennessee in 1796, for example, some varieties
of half dimes, dimes, and half dollars were produced with sixteen stars.
3. As more states were admitted to the Union, however, it quickly became apparent that this scheme would
not prove practical and the coins from 1798 were issued with only thirteen Stars - one for each of the
original colonies. Due to an error at the mint, one variety of the 1828 half-cent was issued with only twelve
stars. There is also a variety of the large cent with only 12 stars, but this is the result of a die break and is
not a true error.

1. One way of training for your future occupation in Germany is by pursuing a dual vocational training
programme. Such programmes offer plenty of opportunity for on-the-job training and work experience.
Programmes usually last between two and three and a half years and comprise theoretical as well as practical
elements. You will spend one or two days a week, or several weeks at once, at a vocational school where
you will acquire the theoretical knowledge that you will need in your future occupation. The rest of the
time will be spent at a company. There you get to apply your newly acquired knowledge in practice, for
example by learning to operate machinery. You will get to know what your company does, learn
how it operates and find out if you can see yourself working there after completing your training.
2. This combination of theory and practice gives you a real head start into your job. by the time you have
completed your training, you will not only have the required technical knowledge, but you will also
have hands-on experience in your job. There are around 350 officially recognised training programmes in
Germany, so chances are good that one of them will suit your interests and talents. You can find out which
one that might be by visiting one of the jobs and vocational training fairs which are organised in many
German cities at different times in the year.

1. Marcel Bich, a French manufacturer of traditional ink pens, was the man turning the ballpoint pen into
an item that today almost anyone can afford. Bich was shocked at the poor quality of the ballpoint pens that
were available, and also at their high cost. However, he recognised that the ballpoint was a firmly
established invention, and he decided to design a cheap pen that worked well and would be commercially
successful.
2. Bich went to the Biro brothers and asked them if he could use the design of their original invention in
one of his own pens. In return, he offered to pay them every time he sold a pen. Then, for two years, Bich
studied the detailed construction of every ballpoint pen that was being sold, often working with a
microscope.
3. By 1950, he was ready to introduce his new wonder. a plastic pen with a clear barrel that wrote smoothly,
did not leak and only cost a few cents. He called it the 'Bic Cristal'. The ballpoint pen had finally become
a practical writing instrument. The public liked it immediately, and today it is as common as the pencil. In
Britain, they are still called Biros, and many Bic models also say 'Biro' on the side of the pen, to remind
people of their original inventors.
4. Bich became extremely wealthy thanks to his invention, which had worldwide appeal. Over the next 60

1. Edward Patrick Eagan was born on April 26th 1897 in Denver, Colorado, and his father died in a railroad
accident when Eagan was only one year old. He and his four brothers were raised by his mother, who earned
a small income from teaching foreign languages.
2. Inspired by Frank Marriwell, the hero of a series of popular novels for boys, Eagan pursued an education
for himself and an interest in boxing. He attended the University of Denver for a year before serving in the
U.S. army as an artillery lieutenant during World War I. After the war, he entered Yale University and
while studying there, won the US national amateur heavyweight boxing title. He graduated from Yale in
1921, attended Harvard Law School, and received a Rhodes scholarship to the University of Oxford where
he received his A.M. in 1928.
3. While studying at Oxford, Eagan became the first American to win the British amateur boxing
championship. Eagan won his first gold medal as a light heavyweight boxer at the 1920 Olympic Games in
Antwerp, Belgium. Eagan also fought at the 1924 Olympics in Paris as a heavyweight but failed to get a
medal. Though he had taken up the sport just three weeks before the competition, he managed to win a
second gold medal as a member of four-man bobsled team at the 1932 Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
Thus, he became the only athlete to win gold medals at both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Parents of a Tokyo elementary school are up in arms at being asked to pay $730 for their child's school
uniform. A public elementary school in Tokyo's upmarket Ginza district has decided to adopt new school
uniforms designed by the luxury Italian designer Armani. The bespoke uniforms, which include a hat and
bag, are priced at over ¥80,000 ($ 730) each. Parents are angry at the school's decision and are protesting
at what they view as the exorbitant price for a uniform of an eight-year-old child. The school said it wanted
a designer uniform that represented the rich area of Ginza. School officials visited top department stores
and decided to ask the fashion brand Armani to design the uniform.
The expensive uniform has created such a fuss that it has been discussed in Japan's parliament. One
lawmaker said that since the school is public and not private, "a certain price range needs to be considered".
Finance Minister Taro Aso said: "Clearly it's expensive. It would be tough if a student could not afford to
pay for it." Japan's education minister said steps would be taken to ensure the financial burden placed on
parents for uniforms, "would not be excessive". Twitter users said young children are not interested in
designer clothes. The school principal said: "With humility, I take the criticism that the explanation has
been insufficient and not well-timed. I will go on explaining carefully to those concerned."

Scientists have discovered a bizarre link between music and cheese. Different genres of music affect the
way cheese matures. A top Swiss cheese maker and a team of researchers from Switzerland's Bern
University conducted a six-month test to look into the effect music had on the maturation process of
Emmental cheese. After the cheese had matured, it was sampled and assessed by the researchers and a jury
of culinary cheese experts. The researchers found that cheese that had been played hip-hop had a stronger
aroma and flavor than the other samples. The cheese aficionados reached the same conclusion as the
researchers - the hip-hop cheese was the tastiest.
The experiment involved exposing different cheeses to a 24-hour, non-stop musical loop. A music player
directed sound waves at the cheese for six months. The experiment was titled "Cheese in Surround Sound".
The music included Mozart's "The Magic Flute," Led Zeppelins rock classic "Stairway to Heaven," and A
Tribe Called Quest's hip-hop tune "Jazz (We've Got)". A researcher explained the differences in taste. He
said: "Bacteria are responsible for the formation of the taste of cheese, with the enzymes that influence its
maturity. I am convinced that humidity, temperature or nutrients are not the only things that influence taste.
Sounds, ultrasounds or music can also have physical effects."

William Shakespeare (1564-1616) wrote many plays and poems which are known the world over.
But perhaps you think the works of an Elizabethan playwright are not important today. Well, think again.
Shakespeare’s works have survived the years and then some! For example, Romeo and Juliet has not only
been performed again and again in theaters around the world, but it has also been made into a very popular
movie, twice!
During the late 1500s, however, Shakespeare’s plays were often performed at the Globe Theatre in London.
The Globe was a large open-air theater that used only natural lighting. Shows at the Globe used very few
props, but performances were always interesting and exciting because the audience yelled at, cheered, and
talked with the performers. The Globe was a great success. However, in 1613, during a performance of
Shakespeare’s Henry VIII, a cannon was fired on stage, setting off a fire. The fire completely destroyed the
theater. The Globe was fixed a year later, but it did not stay open long. The theater was closed by the
Puritans, who did not approve of entertainment. The Globe never opened again, and the building was finally
torn down in 1644.
Theater lovers in England never forgot the Globe, and in 1970, a decision was made to rebuild it as close
to the original design as possible. Imagine how people felt when, in 1989, those working on the new Globe
came across some of the original buildings only about 100 meters from the new theater. They were building
the new theater almost in the original Globe’s location! The new Globe opened in 1999 and has since won
many awards as one of the best tourist attractions in Europe. Since the new theater opened, hundreds of
thousands of people have attended Shakespearean performances such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As
You Like It, and Henry V. Shakespeare, where are you now? At the Globe, of course!

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone left home at the age of twenty to pursue her dreams of fame. Her early
days in the entertainment industry were tough. However, her determination eventually brought her
mainstream pop success with the hit "Holiday" in 1984. Along with performing as a singer, Madonna has
expanded her talents in different areas, such as acting and writing. Over her career, she has released eighteen
albums, including three collections of greatest hits. Madonna has continued to work hard for her success,
redefining herself and her music with every album. As Madonna says, “Every time I reach a new peak, I
see a new one I want to climb.”
Madonna is recognized as a strong businesswoman who likes to control all aspects of her career.
Throughout her climb to the top, Madonna has not been afraid of controversy. She has strong opinions and
is known as a woman who does not mince her words, no matter what the response. In recent years, Madonna
has used her outspoken manner to try to curb online piracy. Albums by famous artists often show up on the
Internet weeks before their official release date. Of course, both the record industry and artists condemn
this piracy of their work. Madonna herself has not been immune to online piracy. Mixes of the title track
of her 2000 album, Music, appeared on several file-sharing sites before the album was launched.
Then in 2003, Madonna was set to release her new album, American Life. However, in an effort to prevent
further piracy, Madonna and her record company decided to try a new approach. Decoy MP3 tracks from
American Life were uploaded on file-sharing sites. These decoys were meant to discourage illegal
downloading. People downloading the files thought they were getting tracks from American Life for free.
However, when the files were played, all that people could hear was Madonna swearing. Instead of a song,
listeners heard the artist shouting, “What the **** do you think you are doing?”
This strong approach of Madonna’s definitely made a statement. It also provoked an immediate response.
Soon after the decoy tracks were discovered, hackers retaliated by hijacking the madonna. com website.
They used the website to distribute free MP3 copies of her new album. Perhaps this artist’s plan did not
work quite as expected. However, as Madonna knows well, controversy draws attention to her material.
Whether or not such controversy has had any impact over the years, one thing is for sure. Madonna
continues to have something to say.

Living on land, however, are the land turtles, properly called tortoises, of which there are approximately 40
different kinds. Of these, Gopherus, including the three gopher tortoises, is found in the southern United
States as far west as New Mexico. Gopher tortoises are so called because they dig long burrows, which
may be nearly 50 feet long and provide a hone for many other animals, such as frogs, snakes, and burrowing
owls. They are primarily vegetarians, feeding on grass and leaves. Berlandier’s tortoise, a slow-moving
inhabitant of the arid lands of southern Texas and Mexico, is especially fond of prickly-pear cactus.
The true tortoises come to water only to drink or bathe, and they are adapted to walking on land by their
club-shaped feet. Their limbs are covered with hard scales that often have a bony core. The shell is high-
domed in all but a very few forms. The openings at the front and rear of the shell are usually neatly closed
by the retracted limbs, on which the enlarged scales may be defensively augmented with still larger spines.
The head can be entirely withdrawn, the elbows meeting in the middle in front of it and the claws of the
forelimbs overlapping the lower edge of the opening at the front. The hard-scaled soles of the hind feet
cover the openings at the rear.
Tortoises have become symbols of leisurely movement, of longevity, and of persistence, as in Aesop’s fable
of the hare and the tortoise. All tortoises share the ability to live to a great age, but the longest life of any

People used to know more or less how their children would live. Now things are changing so quickly that
they don’t even know what their own lives will be like in a few years’ time. What follows is not science
fiction. It is how experts see the future. You are daydreaming behind the steering wheel; is it too dangerous?
No! That’s no problem because you have it on automatic pilot, and with its hi-tech computers and cameras,
your car “knows” how to get your home safe and sound.
What is for lunch? In the old days, you used to stop off to buy a hamburger or a pizza. Now you use your
diagnostic machine to find out which foods your body needs. If your body needs more vegetables and less
fat, your food-preparation machine makes you a salad.
After lunch, you go down the hall to your home office. Here you have everything you need for doing your
work. Thanks to your information screen and your latest generation computer, you needn’t go to the office
any more. The information screen shows an urgent message from a co-worker in Brazil. You can instantly
send back a reply to him and go on to deal with other matters.

1. Many of the major supermarket chains have come under fire with accusations of various unethical
acts over the past decade. They've wasted tons of food, they've underpaid their suppliers and they've
contributed to excessive plastic waste in their packaging, which has had its impact on our environment.
2. But supermarkets and grocers are starting to sit up and take notice. In response to growing
consumer backlash against the huge amounts of plastic waste generated by plastic packaging, some of the
largest UK supermarkets have signed up to a pact promising to transform packaging and cut plastic wastage.
In a pledge to reuse, recycle or compost all plastic wastage by 2025, supermarkets are now beginning to
take some responsibility for the part they play in contributing to the damage to our environment with one
major supermarket announcing their plan to eliminate all plastic packaging in their own-brand products by
2023.
3. In response to criticisms over food waste, some supermarkets are donating some of their food surplus.
However, charities estimate that they are only accessing two per cent of supermarkets' total food surplus,
so this hardly seems to be solving the problem. Some say that supermarkets are simply not doing enough.
Most supermarkets operate under a veil of secrecy when asked for exact figures of food wastage, and
without more transparency it is hard to come up with a systematic approach to avoiding waste and to
redistributing surplus food.
4. Some smaller companies are now taking matters into their own hands and offering consumers a
greener, more environmentally friendly option. Shops like Berlin's Original Unverpakt and London's Bulk
Market are plastic- tree shops that have opened in recent years, encouraging customers to use their own
containers or compostable bags. Online grocer Farmdrop eliminates the need for large warehouses and the
risk of huge food surplus by delivering fresh produce from local farmers to its customers on a daily basis
via electric cars, offering farmers the lion's share of the retail price.
5. There is no doubt that we still have a long way to go in reducing food waste and plastic waste. But perhaps
the major supermarkets might take inspiration from these smaller grocers and gradually move towards a
more sustainable future for us all.

Read the passage carefully:
1. Humans generally spent more time working than do other creatures, but there is greater variability in
industriousness from one human culture to the next than is seen in subgroups of any other species. For
instance, the average French worker toils for 1,646 hours a year; the average American for 1,957 hours;
and the average Japanese for 2,088.
2. One reason for human diligence is that people, unlike animals, can often override the impulses they may
feel to slow down. They can drink coffee when they might prefer a nap or flick on the air-conditioning
when the heat might otherwise demand torpor. Many humans are driven to work hard by a singular desire
to gather resources far beyond what is required for survival. Squirrels may collect what they need to make
it through one winter but only humans worry about collect bills, retirement, or replacing their old record
albums with compact discs.
3. Among other primates, if you don't need to travel around to get food for that day, you sit down and relax,
said Dr.Frans de Waal of Emory University in Atlarita: "it's typically human to try to accumulate wealth
and get more and more.”
4. Much of the acquisitiveness is likely to be the result of cultural training. Anthropologists have found that
most hunter-gatherer groups, who live day to day on the resources they can kill or forage and who stash
very little away for the future generally work only three to five hours daily.
Indeed, an inborn temptation to reduce may lurk beneath even the most work-obsessed people, which could
explain why sloth ranks with lust and gluttony as one of the seven deadly sins.

Before

Câu 1: Which of the following could best serve as the main topic of the passage?
A. The threat to minority languages in different parts of the world.
B. The domination of business languages all over the world.
C. The shift from regional to national languages in many countries.
D. The benefits of national languages in modern world.
Câu 2: According to the first paragraph, why do many parents consider the change towards national ại
languages a reasonable choice? ọc T
A. Because not many people nowadays are familiar with the language of their ancestors.
B. Because children now can learn to speak both a local and a national language.

Every time we make a mistake, we are strengthening our brain's neural pathways.
And as you try different ways to accomplish
something, you are learning and building your brain's connections! ại

Other research shows
that a single night of inadequate sleep can increase the risk of injury, and 64 hours of bad sleep reduces strength, power, and balance!
On
the evening of a game, he even asked fans who were celebrating at the same hotel to keep quiet because the ại
team were sleeping. The intervention was a great success. Mexico won their next game versus South Korea
and even beat Germany in their group. ọc T
Khoahocshare.com

1. In the early 1800s, less than 3% of the world's population lived in cities; today, more than half of the
global population is urban and by 2050, the proportion will rise to three quarters. There are thousands of
small and medium-sized cities along with more than 30 megacities and sprawling, networked metropolitan
areas — conurbations — with 15 million residents or more.
3. Metropolitan regions and special economic zones are linking global cities through transnational supply
chains. A growing number of mega-regions, such as those linking cities in Mexico and the US, transcend
borders. In the process, cities are collectively forging common regional plans, trading partnerships, and ại infrastructure corridors. ọc T
4. The spectacular rise of cities did not happen by accident. Cities channel creativity, connect human capital,
and when well governed, they drive growth. That many cities and their residents are rolling up their sleeves
and getting things done — where nations have failed — are grounds for optimism.

Due to an error at the mint, one variety of the 1828 half-cent was issued with only twelve
stars. There is also a variety of the large cent with only 12 stars, but this is the result of a die break and is not a true error.

However, he recognised that the ballpoint was a firmly

a practical writing instrument. The public liked it immediately, and today it is as common as the pencil. In
Britain, they are still called Biros, and many Bic models also say 'Biro' on the side of the pen, to remind
people of their original inventors.

1. Edward Patrick Eagan was born on April 26th 1897 in Denver, Colorado, and his father died in a railroad
accident when Eagan was only one year old. He and his four brothers were raised by his mother, who earned
a small income from teaching foreign languages.
2. Inspired by Frank Marriwell, the hero of a series of popular novels for boys, Eagan pursued an education

while studying there, won the US national amateur heavyweight boxing title. He graduated from Yale in
1921, attended Harvard Law School, and received a Rhodes scholarship to the University of Oxford where he received his A.M. in 1928.
3. While studying at Oxford, Eagan became the first American to win the British amateur boxing

second gold medal as a member of four-man bobsled team at the 1932 Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
Thus, he became the only athlete to win gold medals at both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Parents of a Tokyo elementary school are up in arms at being asked to pay $730 for their child's school

For example, Romeo and Juliet has not only
been performed again and again in theaters around the world, but it has also been made into a very popular movie, twice!
The Globe never opened again, and the building was finally torn down in 1644.

It also provoked an immediate response. ại
Soon after the decoy tracks were discovered, hackers retaliated by hijacking the madonna. com website. ọc T

The true tortoises come to water only to drink or bathe, and they are adapted to walking on land by their

fat, your food-preparation machine makes you a salad.
After lunch, you go down the hall to your home office. Here you have everything you need for doing your
work. Thanks to your information screen and your latest generation computer, you needn’t go to the office
any more. The information screen shows an urgent message from a co-worker in Brazil. You can instantly

In a pledge to reuse, recycle or compost all plastic wastage by 2025, supermarkets are now beginning to
take some responsibility for the part they play in contributing to the damage to our environment with one
major supermarket announcing their plan to eliminate all plastic packaging in their own-brand products by 2023.
3. In response to criticisms over food waste, some supermarkets are donating some of their food surplus.
However, charities estimate that they are only accessing two per cent of supermarkets' total food surplus,
so this hardly seems to be solving the problem. Some say that supermarkets are simply not doing enough.
Most supermarkets operate under a veil of secrecy when asked for exact figures of food wastage, and
without more transparency it is hard to come up with a systematic approach to avoiding waste and to redistributing surplus food.
Online grocer Farmdrop eliminates the need for large warehouses and the ại
risk of huge food surplus by delivering fresh produce from local farmers to its customers on a daily basis ọc T
via electric cars, offering farmers the lion's share of the retail price.
5. There is no doubt that we still have a long way to go in reducing food waste and plastic waste. But perhaps
the major supermarkets might take inspiration from these smaller grocers and gradually move towards a
more sustainable future for us all.

1. Humans generally spent more time working than do other creatures, but there is greater variability in
industriousness from one human culture to the next than is seen in subgroups of any other species. For
instance, the average French worker toils for 1,646 hours a year; the average American for 1,957 hours;
and the average Japanese for 2,088.
Squirrels may collect what they need to make
it through one winter but only humans worry about collect bills, retirement, or replacing their old record albums with compact discs.
3. Among other primates, if you don't need to travel around to get food for that day, you sit down and relax,

3. Metropolitan regions and special economic zones are linking global cities through transnational supply
chains. A growing number of mega-regions, such as those linking cities in Mexico and the US, transcend
borders. In the process, cities are collectively forging common regional plans, trading partnerships, and ại infrastructure corridors.
4. The spectacular rise of cities did not happen by accident. Cities channel creativity, connect human capital, ọc T
