Lesson 5: Skills 1: Reading and Speaking
A. Aims : By the end of the lesson:
1. Knowledge: Students will be able to read for information about Television guide and talk
about one’s favorite TV programmes, the reasons for that.
2. Qualities: Ss will be more aware of spending time watching TV, and choose the best programme for yourself.
2. Competences: Students will be able to practise listening skill, reading skill, communicate
and cooperate, solve problems and develop creativity. B. Teaching aids:
Textbook, computer, projector/ TV, cassette. C. Procedure: * Warm up: Kim’s game:
T devides class into two teams. Ss look on the screen in 30 seconds, then write the
programmes that they’ve seen. Which team writes more is the winner.
Key: 1. Science 2. Wildlife 3. Gameshow
4. Cartoon 5. Sports 6. Comedy I. Pre-reading: 1. Complete the table:
Ss write the programmes that these people may choose to watch People Programmes
1. Phong wants to know more about dogs and cats
2. Bob likes programmes that makes him laugh
3. Nga loves leraning about plant and animal 4. Minh like watching races
5. Linh is interesting in sea animals.
- T asks Ss to guess to write.
- T calls some Ss to tell about their predictions. II. While reading:
T asks Ss to read the TV guide in 1 and check. T can explain any words that Ss do not know. Key:
1. Phong : Children are always right 2. Bob : The Fox Teacher 3. Nga: Cuc Phuong Forest 4. Minh: The Pig race 5. Linh : The Dolphins
2. Answer the questions: Play games: Lucky numbers
- Have Ss read the text quickly again . Then ask them to work in pair to ask and answer the questions.
- Give the meaning of the words, explanations and examples (Vietnamese equivalent
- Ask ss to play the game Lucky numbers to check their understanding

T calls some Ss to come to the board to write their Vietnamese meanings.
T asks Ss to practise reading in chorus and in individuals. III. Speaking;
- Do you lke watching T.V? What programmes do you like best?
- What time do they broastcast ?
- What about Phong, Bob, Nga…..? 4. Work in groups:
Share their anwers in 2 with the group. Encourage other Ss to say if they agree or disagree
with the answers and explain their pảtners’choice.
Ask some students to demonstrate it ỉnont of the class.
A. I think the best programme for …. Is….. B. I agree/ disagree…. A. What about you?
5. Talking about their favorite TV programmes.
-T explains the task and divide Ss into groups of six
-Then allows Ss 3 minutes to choose the programme they prefer and prepare for their
speaking (they should explain why they like it.)
- Get feedback and the group leaders can tell about their most favorite TV programmes. T
writes the name of the programme on the board as well as the number of Ss who like them
Tell the group about your favourite TV programme. They should follow the following information
The name of the progrramme
 the channel it is on
 the content of the programme  the reason you like it
Let Ss share their answer in group before calling some of them to present their answer to the class Correct any mistakes later Suggestions: My favorite programme is….. It’s on …. It’s about ….. I like it because it ….
IV. Homework:
- Learn vocabulary by heart.
- Do exercises in part D (workbook)
- Prepare for “Skills 2”

A. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge:
- improve listening skill about channel on TV
- improve writing skill about favourite TV programme
2. Quality: Be more confident and friendly with the new school environment, preferable to their school.
3. Competence: develop their skills of listening and writing, co-operative skill
B. TEACHING AIDS: projector/cassette C. Procedure:
I. Warm up: T divides class into 3 groups and take turn write TV programme on the board. II. Pre-writing: Listening
a. Pre-questions: set the scene How many programmes? How many channels? b. listen and put a tick
Key : 1, channel 1 , 2 : channel 2, 3: channel 3 , 4 : channel 2, 5 : channel 3
After listening , T asks ss to read some questions and circle their answer
1. How much do you like watching TV?
2. How do many hours a day do you watch TV?
3. When do you watch TV the most ?
4. Do you watch TV when you are eating?
4. What TV programme do you watch the most?
- T asks the questions one by one.
III.While-writing: Write a paragraph about 40-50 words about your TV viewing habits
- Ss work individually, write a paragraph of about 50 words about their TV viewing habits,
covering as many ideas as possible of the answers to these questions.
- Tell Ss to pay attention to punctuation, structural elements, linking words …
- Ss have 7 minutes to write the paragraph.
- Ask one or two Ss to write their paragraph on the board
- Ss can start with : My Tv-viewing habits are good………. And close with : In short, I think
I have good Tv – watching habits
IV. Post-writing: Exhibition
- Ss share their writings with their friends to correct.
- One or two Ss read and exhibit on the board.
- T and other students comment on the writing.
- Collect some Ss’ paragraphs to correct at home.
Suggestion : My Tv-viewing habits are good. I usually spend less than 1 hour watching TV.I
usually watch films in the evening after finishing my homework but I never watch it while I
am eating. Cartoons are my favourite programmes because they are very entertaining and
funny, especially watching Tom and Jerry. In short, I think I have good TV watching habits V. Homework: - Complete the writing - Do ex. E3 ( workbook)

UNIT 7: TELEVISION
LESSON 7: LOOKING BACK + PROJECT A.AIMS:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge:
- Recall vocabulary about different TV programes and some adjectives describing them.
- Recall the usage of Wh- question and conjunctions and use them correctly. 2. Skill:
- communicate with friends by talking about some interesting TV programmes
- recommend some interesting TV programmes 3. Qualities:
- choose the suitable programmes for themselves to relax and study. 4. Competences:
- self- study, co-operate, make balance time between watching TV and studying B. PROCEDURES:
I. Warm up: (5 minutes)
Chatting (about favourite TV programmes using some Wh- questions words: What, When, How often, Why,..... )
- Ss answer using names of TV programmes, some adjectives describing them. II. Vocabulary
1. Activity 1/P.14. (5 minutes)
- T divides the class into two groups to do Ex 1/ P.14.
- T asks Ss to the board to put the words in the box in the correct columns.Ss can add as many more words as possible.
- T gets feedback , gives corrections and find out the winner. * Key: Programmes Adjectives describing programmes Sports educational wildlife interesting English in a Minute popular animated films funny .................... .........................
2.Activity 2/ P.14: Gap- filling.(5minutes)
- T runs through the words in the box
- T asks Ss work in pairs to fill in the gaps to complete the text (or T may divide the class into two teams)
- Ss go to the board to write the answers or find the answers (word cards to stick on the board ) as quickly as possible
- T gets feedback and gives corrections.

1.Activity 3/P.14: Completing the sentences (5minutes)
- T asks students recall some Wh-questions: ...........................
- T asks Ss to look at the answers and decide which question word is to be used.
- Ss work individually to complete questions with the suitable question words
- T gets feedback and gives corrections. * Key:

2.Activity 4/P14: Rewriting ( 12 minutes)
- T asks ss to recall the conjunctions
- T asks Ss to use the conjunctions provided to connect the sentences and write
the full sentences in the notebooks
- T asks Ss to share their answers with their partners.
- T gets feedback and gives corrections. * Key:
1.. Ocean life is on at 7.30 , and Laughing out loud comes next at 8.00.
2. I like the Seven kitties very much, so I watched it many times.
3. BBC one is a British channel , but VTV 6 is Vietnamese channel.
4.Along the Coast is a famous TV series, but I have never watched it.
5. I have a lot of home work tonight, so I can’t watch Eight Feet Below.
-T may ask Ss to add more sentences using the conunctions above.
IV. Project: How important is TV to you? (10 minutes)
- T models the practice with a good student.
- Teacher organises the activity in a way that students will be able to go out and ask
questions to find out how important TV is to their friends, to take notes of the answers,
and to report the results to other people (their classmates).
- T asks 2 Ss to models as the class.
- T check Ss’ reporting in the next lesson.
* Consolidation: Teacher asks students to talk about what they have learnt in the lesson and T writes on the board.
V. Homework ( 3 minutes)
- Do the exercses left in the WB
- Prepare Unit 8: Getting started + Listen and read.
