Lesson 4 : Communication
A. Aims:
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students can:
- Know how to express agreement and disagreement.
- Students can use modal verbs to talk about robots’ abilities.
a. Vocabulary: the items related to the topic "Robots".
b. Grammar: can/ can’t.
2. Skills: listening and filling in each gap with the word you hear, interviewing,
answering the questions, reporting the results.
3. Attitude: Students will be more responsible for and think for the better
future.
4. Competence development: groupwork, independent working, pair work,
linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence.
B. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher: Textbooks, computer accessed to the Internet,TV

I.Pre-speaking:
EVERYDAY ENGLISH
Express agreement and disagreement (task 1)
- Play the reccording for Ss to listen and read the two short dialogues between A
and B at the same time.
- Ask Ss to pay attention to the highlighted sentences.
- EIicit the structures to express agreement and dsagreement from Ss (I
agree/disagree with).
- Have Ss practise the dialogues in pairs.
- Call on some pai to practise the dialogues in front of the class.
Audio Script:
A. I think robot can help us a lot in our daily life.
B. I agree with you.
A. Peter says robots can do everything like humans.
B. I don’t agree with him.
II. While-speaking:
1. Work in pairs to express agreement and disagreement (task 2)
- Have Ss read the instruction and given statements.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to make similar dialogues. using the structures for
expressing agreement and disagreement.
- Move around to observe and provide help.
- Call on some pairs to practise in front of the class.
- Comment on their performance.
2. Listen and fill the blank (task 3)
- First, play the recording and ask Ss to listen only. Then play the recording
again and allow Ss to fill the blanks as they listen.
- Ask Ss to share their answers in pairs, before playing the recording a final time
to allow the pairs to check their answers. Then ask Ss to read the radio
programme again, paying attention to the use of the words of daily activities.

Speaker. Today we ask our friends: Tom from Australia, Linh from Viet Nam
and Nobita from Japan to tell us about their robots.Tom, would you like to start?
Fom: Well, my robot can understand what I say. It can also understand my
feelings. It's the smartest robot.
Speaker: Linh?
Linft: My robot is my best friend. It does a lot for me: clean the floor, put my
toys away, and ...
Speaker: And Nobita?
Nobita: My robot is very useful. It helps me a lot. It can water my plants and
even work as a guard.
3. Interview(task 4)
- Have Ss move around and ask three classmates what abilities they want their
robots to have. Remind them to write the names of the people they interview
and note the answers in the table in 6.
- When they have finished the interviews,T may have Ss practise reporting the
results of their interviews in pairs or in groups.
III. Post-speaking:
Report the results
- Choose some Ss to report the results or their interviews in front of the whole
class
- After each student has finished his/ her report, invite some comments from
other Ss. - Then make comments and correct any common errors.
IV. Wrap-up:
- T consolidates the knowledge of the lesson.
V. Homework:
- Learn the way of expressing agreement and disagreement.
- Write about robot’s abilities in the future.
- Get ready for “skills 1”
