A laptop is the most convenient mean of communication and entertainment. We
can use it to check e-mail, send messages or store music. Besides, it helps us a lot
not only in study but also in entertainment. For example, we can substitute the
laptop with an electronic dictionary, easily look new words up in a dictionary, and
find the definitions of the word on the laptop. Moreover, it provides us with many
forms of entertainment. For instance, we can listen to music, watch our favorite
films, and many forms of entertainment we can try. C. Join another pair:
a) Which gadgets in part A do you own?
I am lucky to possess a laptop computer and a cell phone.
b) How often do you use them?
I use them frequently in my daily life but not too much. I use the cell phone for
about 1 hour a day, and the laptop is about 2-3 hours a day. I use the laptop to
study, so I spend more time on it than on my cell phone.
c) What do you use them for?
I use them for study, communication, and entertainment. When I study, these
gadgets help me a lot. For example, I can access large sources of knowledge on the
Internet, and I can easily do my homework with their smart feature. In addition, I
can try many forms of entertainment on the laptop or my cell phone, like, calling
with my friends and my family, watching the film, listening to music. These
gadgets are really helpful in my daily life. Activity 2:

An alarm clock and a camera are somewhat important in my life. The alarm clock
helps me wake up easily in the morning, but not very important because I can use
my cell phone instead as an alarm clock. I think a CD player and a DVD player are
not very important to me because I usually watch films or watch videos on Youtube
through my laptop and my smartphone. And with me, a TV is somewhat important.
When I can’t connect to the Internet, the TV is a means of entertainment I can use
to relax. Besides, a remote control is quite important for its convenience. I can control everything remotely. Activity 3:
B. Pair work – What features do you think are important for these products?
- I think camera should have a long lasting battery and the sensor size should be
full frame, because, the larger the sensor, the more information it will capture and clearer the photos will be.
- I think a cell phone has to be lightweight and easy to carry around.
- I think a laptop computer should be convenient to carry around and must have long battery.
- I think an MP3 player should be lightweight and large storage space to store songs.
- I think a TV should have a suitable screen size. Besides, I think its resolution is
also important. The sharper the resolution, the better will be the clarity you get on the screen. C. Group work:
a) What new features do the products have nowadays?
Technology devices nowadays have many modern features. It can connect to the
Internet, or we can search for something through our voice, which was the old
technology devices don’t have.
b) Are the latest products all improvement over the older version?
Yes, absolutely. The latest products are all improvements over the older version. It
has more modern new features and helps people more in their daily life, like in
their work, study, or entertainment.
c) Do you have any of the products? Is there anything you don’t like about them?
Yes, I do. I have a smartphone and laptop. These products are very useful to me,
but there is something I don’t like about them. By the time, they will have more
software bugs, and it will soon be obsolete because new models are invented every year.
