OPINION ESSAY – DETAIL SENTENCES – P. 23
University education should be free for all students. To what extent do you
agree or disagree?
There can be no doubt that the topic of free education is one which deserves
some analysis. It is the opinion of this writer that the weight of evidence tips
the scales towards those who believe students should pay for their study, despite some reservations.
Central to this issue is the point that universities cannot maintain (~ duy trì)
their activities in the long run (~ lâu dài).
The idea that students will not appreciate (~ trân trọng) the value of education
is also of decisive importance.
However, there is a different point of view which holds that underprivileged
(~ không có điều kiện) students can afford (~ kham được) their study.
Thus, it can be seen that the merit is outweighed by serious flaws of unpaid
study. Therefore, there is ample evidence to conclude that tertiary education should not be free of charge. AGREE DISAGREE

their activities in the long run (~ lâu dài). This is due to the fact that schools
cannot pay for their staff unless they collect fees (0.5). One should also note
that facilities need to be frequently updated. For example, a recent study by
the University of Economics and Finance in Vietnam showed averagely a
university needs 13 billion VND per year to keep their progress (0.5).
The idea that students will not appreciate (~ trân trọng) the value of education
is also of decisive importance.
However, there is a different point of view which holds that underprivileged
(~ không có điều kiện) students can afford (~ kham được) their study. As
should be self-evident, the poor cannot have money to pay for their tuition
(~ học phí). As a result, study without pay offers them an opprotunity to
continue their aspiration (~ hoài bão) and escape from poverty (~ cái nghèo).
