Introduce myself
My name is Trang. I'm 20 years old. I was born in Nha Trang and grew up in this beautiful
city. I live here with my family. We're a family of four: my father, my mother, my brother and
me. I'm a student at Khanh Hoa University at the moment. My major is English linguistics
and I am studying in year two. My hobbies are comedy films and reading books like
detective novels. My primary ambition in life is to take my family travel around the world
while still having time to develop my personal passions.
TOPIC 1: Describe a dream you remember well
You should say:
- when you had the dream
- what you did or said in the dream
- how you felt about the dream
- and explain why you remember this dream so well
I’d like to talk about a dream I remember well. It’s the nightmare I had the other night. On
the way to a mountain in the dead of winter, I dropped behind the group I was traveling with
and got lost. To make matters worse, it began to rain heavily and the wind blew hard.
Overcast was the sky that night came several hours earlier than usual. Cold and frightened, I
was trembling all over. All I could do was shout for help, but no help was forthcoming. The
night became darker, the wind blew harder, and the rain poured down more heavily. I ate my
last piece of food, a tiny piece of cake. Totally despaired, I was waiting not for miracle but for
death. Suddenly, a thunderclap woke me up. A rainstorm was indeed raging outside, but I
was grateful to find that I only had a nightmare. I still couldn’t figure out why I would have
that dream and I certainly wouldn’t want it to come true. That’s all I would like to say. Thank
you for your listening.
TOPIC 2: Describe an incident
You should say:
- where it took place and who was with you
- what happened
- how it made you feel
- and explain why you remember it
One day last year, I was alone in my house, when something terrible happened. I can still
when something terrible happened. I can still remember the incident very clearly. My
parents were out that day to meet some of their friends. All of them returned very late in
the night. As I had some school work to do, so I stayed at home alone. I was reading my
lessons in a room at the back of our house. Suddenly, I heard a strange cry outside the
house. It frightened me at once. I felt certain that a child had been attacked by some person
or an animal. Then I opened the door at the back of the house to find out what it was. I saw
a small girl with a lot of blood all over her body, lying on the floor. She was still alive so I took
her into our house and telephoned the hospital nearby. Soon an ambulance arrived and took
her to the hospital. I didn't know what happened after that. When my parents returned, I
told them all that had happened. Until now, the thought of this incident frightens me even
today. Thats all I would like to say. Thank you for your listening.
TOPIC 3
Describe a foreign language other than English that you would like to learn
You should say:
- what the language is and where it is spoken
- what would be easy about learning the language
- what would be difficult learning the language
- and explain why you would like to learn it
I will now tell you about my favourite language besides English - it’s Korean for sure. To me,
it’s an interesting language with a lot of culture behind it. Also, Vietnam has a very close
relationship with Korea, so I believe it will really help my future. Korean is officially spoken in
two countries namely South Korea and North Korean. The reason why I really want to be
fluent in Korean one day is because I am so in love with its adorable sounds. I actually can
pick up some common phrases through a lot of Korean dramas and K-pop songs. It would be
such a great feeling to be able to watch Korean movies without Vietnamese subtitles. As we
all know, learning a new language is far from being an easy task. I've been fully aware of it
since I began to learn English. When I try to learn some Korean words, I don’t think I could
ever remember all of the letters, let alone make out what they mean. In order to learn it
well, I think it is very necessary to sign up for an elementary course of Korean first. All in all,
Korean is definitely a handy language worth knowing. That’s all I would like to say. Thank you
for your listening.
TOPIC 4: Describe a person you admire
You should say:
- who he/she is
- how you know him/her
- what characteristics this person has
- and explain why you admire this person
Many people have inspired me in my life but the person I admire the most is my mother. She
is a strong woman who held me close and safe even in the most difficult times. Not only is
she a great parent but also a remarkable teacher. She is a kind-hearted lady who always
lends a helping hand to anyone in need. Besides, she has a great sense of humor and can
turn a bad day into a good one. Moreover, she is a good role model for me to follow. My
mother always tries to get on well with people who live next door and help everyone when
they are in difficulties, so most of them respect and love her. I admire and look up to my
mother because she not only brings me up well but also stands by me and gives some help if
necessary. For example, when I encounter some difficulties, she will give me some precious
advice to help me solve those problems. She has a major influence on me and I hope that I
will inherit some of her traits. That’s all I would like to say. Thank you for your listening.
TOPIC 5: Describe a turning point in your life
You should say:
- what it was about
- whether it was positive or negative
- how it affected your life
- and explain why this was an important change in your life
I would like to talk about an important experience of my life when a change brought
something positive in my life. The change was basically that I decided I needed to get fitter. A
couple of years ago I realized that I am getting obese and I wasn't really doing anything
about it. Therefore, I decided to join a gym and that was the turning point of my life. I was so
nervous on my first day in the gym but then I'm used to spending my time regularly in the
gym for exercise. I followed my diet and exercise plan given to me by my gym trainer. I also
joined yoga weekend classes just to relax and for fun. With in months, I started feeling the
positive change not only physically but mentally also. I felt more energetic and stress-free.
Moreover, I started looking more presentable which boosted my confidence level in life.
Now I can't imagine a day without going gym. The first day I turned up nervously to join the
gym was definitely the beginning of a positive change in my life. That’s all I would like to say.
Thank you for your listening.
TOPIC 6: Describe your dream job
You should say:
- what is the job
- what qualification or experience you would need for
this job
- the most difficult thing about the job
- and explain why it is your dream job
Today I would like to tell you about my dream job. It is the job of a teacher who teaches
English. I would say I don’t mind working in either a language center or a big school or a
university as long as they are reliable. You know, the reason is that these days I have heard
so many dramas going on around several English centers and that makes me worried. To be
qualified for this job, we need to have a TESOL degree, which is all about the training course
of teaching English to make us professional teachers. More than that, this job requires us to
have great passion and patience because we need to meet up with a lot of different students
who come from different backgrounds and various personalities. That is why, on top of all,
social skills are critically important, especially for modern teachers like me. This job to me is
perfect because I can get to meet many students who always have a story to tell and I
believe we can learn something from them like life experience. Last but not least, by
teaching the language, a teacher also has an opportunity to spread the value of the language
to students which helps them see the language as an art of communication, not just merely
a test or a tool to earn money. That’s all I would like to say. Thank you for your listening.
TOPIC 7: Describe different roles that you have in your life
You should say:
- what roles you have
- what each role involves
- how much time and energy each role takes up
- and if you would like to change these roles, explain why
In general, everyone has different roles in their life and so do I. First, when I am young, I am
a daughter of my parents and also a student at elementary, secondary and high schools. I
use almost all of my energy to study, to do homework, help my parents with housework and
hang out with friends. I do not want to change this role because it is the most memorable
time in my life. Second, when I am older, I will study at a university for my future job, which
is a very important time in my life as I will use all my energy to gain knowledge and skills for
my work and maybe date a boy. Next, when I grow up, I will have a job, I will be a white-
collar person and after that I will get married, have kids and become a parent. I will work for
decades and finally retire and enjoy the end of life. I do not want to change any moment of
my life because each one has happiness, sadness and I will overcome any events that
happen to my life.
TOPIC 8: Describe a famous person you would like to meet
You should say:
- who he/she is
- what he/she is famous for
- what you would do if you meet him/her
- and explain why you would like to meet him/her
I really enjoy listening to music, so I have a lot of favourite artists but the artist that I
love the most is Jimin Park, who is a singer of a Korean boy band, BTS. He always
brings brilliant ideas to his performance so that he would be able to provide the fans
with the best performance possible. He is my favourite member because he’s hard
working and has a caring nature. He is gifted with an amazing musical
intelligence and dance skill, which means he is sensitive to rhythm. With all the fame
and money that he has, he never lets those things blind him and become greedy or
selfish. He still dedicates himself to work and to the fan and I think
that inspires others to do the same. After all, if I could have any dream now, I’d
definitely like a chance to work by his side, maybe assisting him in learning English.
Imagine all the things and inspiration I can learn from him. He could show me how to
manage my time and find motivation to work hard like he does every day. That’s all I
would like to say. Thank you for your listening.
TOPIC 9: Describe an activity you do that keeps you healthy
You should say:
- what the activity is
- how often you do it
- how you do it (or how easy or difficult it is to do)
- and explain how it helps to keep you fit
Health and fitness mean a lot to our life, so people find many many ways to have a good
health. For me, it is very important. I do exercise every day to keep fit. Exercise offers so
many health benefits, so I often get up early and do exercise. To maintain my weight, the
calories I eat and drink must equal the energy I burn. Exercise strengthens my heart and
improves my circulation. The increased blood flow raises the oxygen levels in my body. This
helps lower your risk of heart diseases such as high cholesterol and heart attack. Regular
exercise can also lower my blood pressure levels. Exercise can lower my blood sugar level
and help my insulin work better. More than that, exercise helps me to fall asleep faster and
stay asleep longer. Exercise helps me a lot, so I do it everyday to stay in shape and keep
healthy. Thats all I would like to say. Thank you for your listening.
TOPIC 10: Describe some rights and obligations in your family
You should say:
- what rights and obligations your parents have

their advice is meaningful and helps us a lot in the future. Secondly is the obligation of
eating. Take the delicious and good things of meal for parents or grandparents like the way
to respect them. And the last but not least is wishing luck for other people to get lucky
