CÁCH NHẬN BIẾT TỪ LOẠI DỰA VÀO CẤU TẠO TỪ I. Danh từ (nouns)
- Danh từ thường kết thúc bằng: -tion/-ation, -ment, -er, -or, -ing, -age, -ship, -ism, -ity, -ness, ics, ist,
age, ce, hood, ship, ian, y, -ty, -ture, -cy, -phy, -logy, -ism, -ee, -an, -ence, -ance, -dom, -ette, -itude,…
ex: majority, nature, democracy, phylosophy, biology, nationalism, pianist, cooker, employee,
refridgerator, domination, illusion, development, happiness, leadership, electrician, independence,
importance, freedom, cigarette, attitude, accountant, teenage, …
*Ngoại lệ: mention(v), implement(v) … II. Tính từ (adjective)
- Tính từ thường kết thúc bằng: -ful, -less, -ly, -al, -ble, -ive, -ous, -ish, -y, -like, -ic, -ed, -ing, ant,…
Ex: useful, homeless, friendly, global, able, active, serious, brittish, daily, childlike, specific, bored, boring, confident, important,
*Ngoại lệ: denial(n), arrival(n), refusal(n)… III. Động từ (Verb)
Động từ thường gặp có các suffixes như sau: -ate, -ain -flect, -flict -spect, -scribe, -ceive, -fy, -ise/-ize, - ude, -ide, -ade, -tend,
Ex: compensate, attain, reflect, inflict, respect, describe, deceive, modify, industrialise/ize, illude, divide, evade, extend,… I V
. Trạng từ (adverbs)
- Trạng từ thường được thành lập bằng cách thêm đuôi “ly” vào tính từ
Ex: beautifully, usefully, carefully, bly, badly
– Những từ vừa là adjective vừa là adverb:
Ex: wrong, long, late, last, kindly, hard, free, fast, daily, best, all day, early, well.
Vài quy tắc biến đổi từ loại:
*Động từ đuôi –ate danh từ thường là –ation: Compensate -> Compensation
*Động từ đuôi –ceive danh từ là –ception: Deceive -> Deception
*Động từ đuôi –scribe danh từ là –scription: Inscribe -> Inscription
*Động từ đuôi –ade/-ude/-ide danh từ thường là –asion/-usion/-ision: Illude -> Illusion, Protrude ->
Protrusion, Divide -> Division
*Động từ đuôi –ise/-ize danh từ là –isation/-ization: Modernise/ize -> Modernisation/zation *Tính từ đuôi danh từ là –ant/-ent
: Important -> Importance, Evanescent –ance/-ence -> Evanescence *Tính từ đuôi – danh từ là able/-ible : Responsible –bility -> Responsibility.
