• The word mechatronics was probably first created by a Japanese
engineer in 1969 and had a trademark by a Japanese company until 1972
• Several definitions can be found in [19.3–7]. All definitions agree that
mechatronics is an interdisciplinary field, in which the following disciplines act together
• The word, mechatronics, is composed of “mecha” from mechanism
and the “tronics” from electronics.
