It goes ii ilhout Sil}’ing lhal learning a second language is a mandaioo’
requirement for students, ii hich results in numerous researchers make attempts
to acquire profound understanding about the motii’ation of learning another
language. This report is a literature rei rely of 3 studies related to this topic.
On the one hand. each research aims to a different dimension of
language learning moti› ation. The firsl one measured the alue of a theoretical
model and its effects to find out the key’ element in motii’ation components
(Csizér & Domyei, 2f)03). Another sludi ink estigated the relationship bel» een
students moiii’ation and social status (Kormos & Kiddle, 2tJ13) The last one
analyzed the attitudes and moti› ation of children in a specific primal school
(Mat & Yunus, 2tJl 4). On the other hand. these journal articles use lhe same
methodology’ - qunntitatii e nnali sis for distinct scopes. The stud›’ of Csixér
and Dorn› ei in 2f)05 is a large-scale sure ei’ of 8.593 participants ii’ho are
students bend een 13 and l4 in 2 points of time, 1993 and 1999. Kormos and
Kiddle (2013) in› estigated 74t) pupils at junior school in Santiago, Chile’s
capital. Meanwhile, Mat & Yunus (20 l4) gathered 4t) responses of children
from 10 to 12 years old in FELDA priman,‘ school,
Due to dissimilar purposes, these studies bring about di› er ent findings. 8
Csizér & Domi’ei pointed out that ' the integrativeness appears to be the single most important factor that affects students answers about their language
acquisition (2tJtJ5. p.I'm). According lo (Kormos & Kiddle, 2tJl 3), the socio-
economic ie› el has an a› erage influence on students' motivation since it is
closely’ connected to their self-confidence. and the cause is the unfair
curriculum in Chilean schooling s; stem. Matñ Yunus (20 l4) supposed that »
ithout making efforts. children are slill interested in learning language and hat e
good reactions Ho» ei er, since there are limitations in used methodologies, some findings are
not reliable. For example, the studj of Kormos and Kiddle in 2tl13 only took
place in the metropolis city, Santiago. but they’ jumped into the conclusion that
blames on the » hole countn 's schooling organixation. Mat rind Yunus's
research also hai’e a problem ii ilh the methodology’ lhei’ used ii’hen lhei’
inteo’iewed and asked 40 › ount children of only 10 to 12 › ears of e Not to •8 mention the limited
number of participants they sum ej ed, these immature students might not fully
understand the questionnaire rind give unconscious ans» ers, so the i aliditi of
this study’’s conclusion is small and uncounlable. The first journal article of Csizér and Dorn; ei » as conducted long
, ho» ei er, it not onlj anal› red on a •8
huge extent ii ith different periods of time. but it ii as also supported by a cogent
theory of Gardner and Lambert, so their finding is still far orable
To sum up. the studies mentioned aboi’e hai’e contributed to the
procedure anale zing the complex structure of 1 Guage learning ' * ation to
help students improi’e their language competence. Review on synthesizing ORIGINALITY REPORT 0 0 0 0 % % % % INTERNET SOURCES PUBLICATIONS STUDENT PAPERS SIMILARITY INDEX PRIMARY SOURCES Exclude matches < 15 words Exclude quotes On Exclude bibliography On
