ADJECTIVE CLAUSES OF TIME AND PLACE
Adjective clauses can also be introduce by the relative adverb
“when” and “ where”
EX1 : I lived in Thanh Hoa when I’m 17 year old .
EX2 :Korea where I want to go .
They can be restrictive or nonrestrictive :
What is restrictive and nonrestrictive ?
RESTRICTIVE : This is an unnecessary proposition .Because the
prefix hasn’t been determined withought it , the sentence will not have
full meaning .
EX 3: The man who staying with me, is my older brother .
NONRESTRICTIVE : This is a kind of unnecesary clauses .Because
the prefix is determined without a sentence , it still has enough meaning .
EX4 : May, who going to shopping with me yesterday , is new friend .
These clauses refer to a time or place , and thay can be restrictive or
nonrestrictive . In the following examples , notice how “ when “ and
“where “ replace entire prepositional phrases .
EX5 :
51a <restrictive> TIME
+ My dog died last night. I retured to Nha Trang last night because I
heard my mom call me to notice this .
My dog died last night when I returned to Nha Trang because I heard
my mom call me to notice this .
51b <nonrestrictive>
+ I come to Nha Trang to study the collage and visit it in 2020 .
in 2020, when I come to Nha Trang to study collage and visit it .

+ 2 year ago I travel abroad. I go to study abroad now.
Abroad where I go to study now I travel abroad 2 year ago .
5.3 < nonrestrictive>
+ London city is very famous . I want a trip to London city .
London where I want to a trip, is very famous .
- It is also possible to write time and place clauses with the relative
pronoun which , , that or and preposition . The following patterns
are possible :
EX6 : December 25, 2020 , was the day on which there is a
Christmas holiday .
OR
December 25, 2020, was the day that there is a Christmas holiday.
OR
December 25,2020 ,was the day there is a Christmas holiday .
EX7 : Mường Thanh is hotel where you can relax during the trip .
OR
Mường Thanh is hotel you can relax during the trip .
OR
Mường Thanh is hotel in which you can relax during in the trip .
OR
Mường Thanh is hotel is that you can relax during in the trip .
