II - The 9/11 attacks
1. What happened?
The 9/11 attacks were a series of airplane hijackings and suicide attacks carried
out by 19 militants of the Islam extremist group, al Qaeda in Washington D.C
and New York City. These terrorists disabled the flight crew and took control of
4 commercial aircrafts, then heading towards their selected targets. In a
coordinated attack, hijackers intentionally flew 2 airplanes into the Twin Towers
of the WT Center, which resulted in their collapses as well as massive
explosions and fires. This was followed by another plane crash at The Pentagon,
headquarters of the US Department of Defense. After learning about the 3
previous hijacks, passengers on the fourth plane attempted to attack terrorists to
retake control, and the plane ended up crashing into rural Pennsylvania instead
of its expected target thought to be the White House.
2. The motive behind
People believe there were 2 major reasons for al Qaeda to trigger the attack. The
first one is religious belief. Extreme Islamists tend to live quietly and consider the
strict adherence to religious law as the sole basis for a country; therefore, they
cannot put up with the American’s free and permissive lifestyle. The US’s advocacy
for Israel, a Jewish homeland and also enemy to Islamists is also worth mentioning.
Another reason is the problem with the US’s foreign policy. As the US constantly
interfered in the Middle East region, imposed sactions in Iraq, sent troops to Saudi
Arabia, taking away lives of Muslims, hatred for the US deepened over time and
eventually resulted in one of the world’s worst terror attacks.
3. Property destruction and human losses in 11/09 terrorist attacks
The September 11 terrorist attack causes enormous damage regarding both people
and property.

A total of 2,996 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks, including the 19
terrorist hijackers aboard the four airplanes. Citizens of 78 countries died
in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. This event caused
further mental breakdown for 3051 estimated number of children who
lost their parents as well as the number of people who lost a spouse or
partner in the attacks.
The most severe damage is the collapse of the twin towers which is
considered as the symbol of power in the US. In addition, the destruction
of major buildings in the World Trade Center with a replacement cost of
from $3 billion to $4.5 billion. Meanwhile, the cost of the loss of four
civilian aircraft was estimated at $385 million.
1. Impacts
a. The US
Reputation:
America’s reputation suffered tarnished by 9/11 attacks. Americans are
deeply hurt because the attack targeted 2 symbols of power in this country. A
country that í almost at the top of the world in all aspects, especially famous for
its military, after the attack, the reputation of the US has decreased by a few
parts.
Policy
9/11 marked a historical turning point, with a profound impact on US
policy on immigration. The Department of Homeland Security was set up a few
months after the terrorist attack to help prevent potential attacks, and to monitor
border security and immigration. The US administrations all pursued tougher
and more restrictive immigration policies.
Security

The most obvious legacy that 9/11 left behind is how it changed the
balance of security across the United States. Aviation security has been
tightened since then.
Passengers must remove shoes and belts, remove computers and liquids
from their bags, and go through a full-body scanner before boarding. while
passenger lists are always checked against the FBI's no-fly list.
Society
Shock, sadness, fear, anger:The 9/11 attacks caused a severe emotional
toll on Americans. Despite how horrific the events of that day were, a majority
of Americans (63 percent) claimed they couldn't stop watching news coverage
of the attacks.
Throughout many years, fear was widespread. When asked a year later
how the attacks affected their life, over half of adults said they felt more afraid,
more careful, more distrustful or more vulnerable as a result of the attacks.
b. Other countries
Apart from America, the rest of the world has been through major
changes, noticeably, ever-increasing terrorist threats.
We have known that after the attack, the US deployed thousands of troops
to Afghanistan and Iraq to ensure that these Middle East regions can not become
the so-called “safe haven” for international terrorists.
However, though leaders of Al-Qaeda and IS were said to be killed, the
number of attacks is still on the rise. According to the UN, there were over
5,770 attacks over 15 years since 2001. And they took place not only in the
Middle East but also in many Asian and European countries. That is to say,
international security is on the edge.
What’s more, after decades of being torn by wars and conflicts, Islamic
nations like Afghanistan and Iraq are now languishing in poverty and social
unrest. In Afghanistan alone, 66000 soldiers and policemen passed away, nearly

50000 civilians were killed, and millions of people had to flee their home
country.
Having said that, there is something to be said for 9/11, at least for the
flourish of other centers of power, such as China. While the US was struggling
with the consequences of the bloodshed for years, other countries were moving
fast forward with their political, economic, and social recovery, actively
bridging the gap between them and America. For example, in the first decade of
21th century, the GDP of the US was 8 times larger than that of China, then at
the end of that decade, the disparity was only 4 times, reducing by a half.
That brings us to the conclusion.
III - Conclu
In conclusion, the September 11 terrorist attacks altered the course of history in
the United States and across the world. Despite governments' efforts to heal the
damage inflicted by terrorism, it is impossible to deny that terrorism has caused
so much suffering and loss to both the dead and the living. As a result, all
countries must make combating terrorism one of the top priorities, and we must
all face the truth that terrorism is something we must confront and fight against.
To come to an end, we believe that - peace, liberty, and happiness are what
humanity truly craves.

Conspiracies: It is undeniable that the 9/11 incident has proven to be a fertile
ground for conspiracy theories, with the most popular ones accusing the Bush
administration of planning ahead the attack or letting it happen on purpose.
Some conspiracy theorists believed that the Twin Towers were intentionally
demolished by dynamite, as sole aircraft crashes’ impacts and resulting fires
couldn’t cause the catastrophic collapse if it weren’t for external factors. Another
hypothesis blamed North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) on
issuing a stand-down order or deliberately commanding jet fighters late to allow
the hijacked airplanes reach their targets easily. Other conspiracies include the
suspicious involvement of Saudi Arabia government
