1. Are there a lot of festivals in your country? What are they?
Vietnam is a country with a rich culture, long history and traditional festivals that play an
important role in the lives of Vietnamese people. Some of the most famous festivals in
Vietnam such as Tet Nguyen Dan (Lunar New Year), Mid-Autumn Festival, Wandering
Souls Day, Independence Day,... These are just a few of many traditional festivals are
held in Vietnam. Each festival is celebrated in completely different ways but all are
considered an important part of our culture.
2. Are there different festivals held in different regions within your country?
3. What is the most popular festival in your country?
From my perspective, Tet Nguyen Dan is the most important event in Vietnam. This
annual celebration usually takes place in late January or early February, marking the
beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar. This is when families reunite
and everyone relaxes after a long year of hard work.
4. Do you enjoy festival? Why/ Why not?
I'm a big fan of the festival. I love to immerse myself in the joyful atmosphere of
festivals. Festivals are a time when people can spend quality time with family and friends
enjoying food and various forms of entertainment.
5. Can you describe your favorite festival?
One festival that I like is the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. This is the time that marks the
beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar. Before New Year's Eve, family
members clean and decorate the house with kumquat and peach trees and prepare some
local specialties such as Chung cake, sausage, and dried fruit jam to worship their
ancestors and then reward them stay awake during Tet. On New Year's Eve, a sumptuous
meal is prepared to welcome the first moments of the New Year with family and friends.
Everyone ate, drank, and sang happily until morning. During Tet, there are many customs
performed such as giving red envelopes, visiting relatives, friends, and teachers, and
going to churches, temples, and pagodas to pray for good luck for the family. I love the
bustling atmosphere, and the feeling of newness and hope that comes with the new year.
It is a time for me to reunite with my family, remember my ancestors, and participate in
traditional customs and ceremonies.
6. How do people in your country celebrate the festivals?
In Vietnam, we celebrate very vibrant and culturally important festivals, including
traditional customs such as dragon dancing, lantern displays, and visits to temples. In
addition, food also plays an important role in celebrations, such as eating Chung cake
during the Tet and moon cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival. People participate in
activities, such as attending religious ceremonies, organizing cultural performances,
preparing traditional meals, and decorating their homes and streets, colorful parades,
fireworks, and fun traditional games make the celebration vibrant, showcasing our rich culture and heritage.
7. With whom do you like to celebrate festivals?
I love celebrating festivals with all my loved ones. I usually hang out with friends during
the day and the evening is family time, with my significant other joining us.
8. What do you like about it?
9. What do you dislike about it?
10. Do you think western festivals like Christmas are replacing traditional
festivals in your country?
I don't think so. I think it is unlikely that all traditional Vietnamese festivals will be
replaced by Western festivals. Western cultural holidays and events such as Christmas,
Halloween, and Valentine's are becoming increasingly popular in Vietnam. However, this
does not mean that they will inherit local customs and traditions.
