[ Complete automation: A meaningless society]
[Automation has been a buzzword in recent years, with some believing that it is the epitome
of human creation. However, the idea of complete automation is flawed as it poses
numerous risks and challenges that we should take into account. In this essay, I will argue
against complete automation.
Firstly, complete automation can lead to a significant increase in unemployment. While
automation can increase efficiency and productivity, it can also reduce the number of jobs
available. This can exacerbate social and economic problems, such as income inequality and
poverty. For example, in the transportation industry, the increased use of self-driving
vehicles could lead to the loss of millions of jobs for truck drivers. This would have a
significant impact on society, particularly on working-class families who rely on these jobs
to make a living.
Secondly, complete automation can lead to a lack of human interaction and empathy. In
many industries, such as healthcare and education, human interaction is crucial to the quality
of services provided. For example, a patient with a terminal illness needs more than just
medical care; they need emotional support and empathy, which only a human caregiver can
provide. Similarly, in the education sector, students need human teachers who can provide
guidance and mentorship, rather than just automated teaching tools.
Thirdly, the potential for cybersecurity threats and data breaches is always possible,
inevitable even. As more systems become automated, there is a higher risk of hackers

gaining unauthorized access and causing harm. For a machine-reliant society, this could lead
to a societal collapse, it can result in data breaches, loss of confidential information, and
other security concerns.
Lastly, the reliance on automation can lead to a lack of creativity and innovation in the
workplace. While automation can increase efficiency, it can also limit the potential for
new ideas and approaches. This could stifle innovation and progress in various fields.
For all that, many advocates of complete automation still argue in favor of complete
automation. Admittedly, machines and algorithms can do many tasks faster, more efficiently,
and with greater accuracy than humans. Automation has been used for decades in industries
such as manufacturing, where robots have replaced human workers on assembly lines and
increased productivity. By automating all tasks and responsibilities, companies could
maximize their efficiency and output, leading to lower costs and greater profits.
Notwithstanding the frequently cited argument mentioned above, I am firmly against
complete automation still, due to the simple fact that the counterargument does not take into
account what complete automation will lead to. Regarding both the rich and the owners of
those machines, they won’t have to fret since they are the ones who can fully monopolize the
dystopian state of the workforce. As for the workers and the poor, there would be no possible
option for them to earn an income. If we are to hypothesize the abolishment of currency and
universal material possession and sustenance indulgence, that will also not solve the problem,
only perpetuate it. In the case that we are handed everything we want and need, we will not
have to work for them anymore. This, ironically, makes us lose interest in said material
possessions.
In conclusion, while maximized automation can increase efficiency and productivity, it
also has the potential for negative consequences. From job loss to cybersecurity threats, it
is important to consider the potential drawbacks when implementing new technology.
