1 sentence to briefly introduce the situation that sport is believed to play a crucial role in school
life for children, but some people think sport should be purely optional. In my opinion, I think it
should be a personal opinion to choose whether we want. This essay below will discuss both
views of this problem.
On the one hand, there are 2 reasons why some people may think that sport should be purely
optional. The first reason is that not everyone is good at playing sport. Because if someone can
play sport well, they may have temperament or they practice a lot. For example, although my
brother and I live in the same house with sport tradition, my brother can play many kinds of
sport such as football, tennis and basketball, but I can not play anything that make me feel very
green with envy. The second reason is that sport subject may put pressure on student. Because
at school, student need to study a lot of core subjects such as math, physic or science. All of
these tend to be stressful and demanding, student have to learn a lot to get high score. So if
school can make sport is an optional subject, it can give students the chance to relax and relieve
pressure. For instance, when I was in secondary school, I could not pass physical education
because I did not kick the shuttlecock at three times and I was on pins and needless.
On the other hand, I agree with the idea that sport is a vital part of school life for children.
Sport help children develop their health and some life skills. Students play sport so they can
have fit body and increase physical health such as burn calories, reduce the risk of heart
diseases and trigger the use of sugar in the blood. Also when playing sport, children can get
some skills such as teamwork, self-confidence, leadership and observation skills which are
essential skills for their future careers or life.
In conclusion, the disadvantages of this problem such as not everyone is good at sport and put
pressure on children outweight the positive, for example, develop health and skills. In my
opinion, children have the opportunity to think what they want to choose and what they can do
well.
