Answer:
Nowadays, almost everyone uses computer. Advancement of science and technology have
aected both our daily life and our social work. With computer technology, we will be able
to communicate from one part of the world to the other in a maer of seconds. We can

even make transacons from dierent part of the globe even if we are not at that place.
(Aakar, 2007). It's a major system for individuals, parcularly people who operate
organizaons, industry, etc. most things you know is done or run by computers. From cars
or jets designed to control trac signal to space exploraon done by computer. Most of
today's employment involve computer.

a company, computer can process big chunks of data and manage all of the informaon
in the company. In a lab, computer can run simulaons to complete the researches
much faster and more ecient than tradional researching by scienst. computer can
manage the informaon of the students in a school or even on a larger scale, a city or
a whole naon.

First of all, computer need some basic hardware components such as the

CPU, motherboard, RAM, HDD, PSU. The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the brain of the
computer, this is one of the main components of a computer. The CPU job is to process
every operaon on the computer. CPU determine the performance of the computer.

Inside every CPU, there is an integrated ALU (Arithmec Logic Unit) that handle all the
mathemacal and logical operaon. The Motherboard is the computer main circuit board.
It holds the CPU, memory, the connectors for the HDD (Hard Disk Drive), the SSD
(Solid State Drive), the Expansion cards like a sound card or a GPU and the computer USB
ports. The motherboard connects every part of the computer together.

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the system short-term memory. Whenever you perform
calculaons, the data will be store temporarily in the RAM unl it is needed to be use. The
memory in RAM is incredibly fast but it will be deleted when reboot.

The hard drive is where your documents, your soware and your les are stored. This is
a long- term storage so even if you turn o your computer, the data will not be erased.
However, the data process in HDD is quite slow.

The PSU (Power Supply Unit) converts the input power to the type of power that the
computer needs to operate. The power then through a cable to the motherboard then to
others components of the computer. There are some expansion cards like a GPU if you are
a gamer or you do graphics related works, a sound card if you are a composer, etc.

Soware is the collecon of help user interact with the computer and its hardware to
perform tasks. Without soware, computers are useless. For example, without Internet
browser, you could not surf the Internet and without an operang system, the browser
could not run on the computer. There are many kinds of soware such as Anvirus
soware (AVG, McAfee...) that protect you from viruses, Audio/Music program (iTunes,
NCT...) for listening to music, Graphic program (Adobe, paint...) for eding pictures or
videos. The Ulity program like An-Virus, Cleanup tools or Performance monitor help

you manage and maintain your system resources. It’s usually provided beer funconality
than the programs that come with the operang system. There are many performance
factors of a computer. First is the CPU, the faster the clock speed, the faster a task can be
done, if you have more cores, you can do more task at the same me. Second is the RAM,
more bandwidth and more RAM equals faster, smother system when you mul-tasking.
An SSD (Solid State Drive) is a great way to make your computer snappier and more
responsive.
Task1.3: Compare dierent types of computer systems and the suitability of usage in
dierent environment?
Computer is a general-purpose tool that can be programmed to perform a nite set of
logical or arithmec operaons. There are many types of computer system: Personal
computer, Workstaon, Minicomputer, Mainframe and Supercomputer. Personal
computer is dened as a relavely inexpensive, small computer designed for an
individual user.

Workstaon is a type used for applicaon that required a moderate amount of compung
power and high-quality graphic capabilies such as engineering applicaons, desktop
publishing, soware development, graphic designer, lmmaker, etc....

Minicomputer is a device that have all the funcon of a standard size computer with less
area footprint and power such as a laptop. This kind of device is for people who travel
frequently. Laptops are becoming more and more powerful than ever before.

Mainframes are a type of computer that is known for its large size with great mount of
storage, great processing power and high reliability. Nearly all mainframe can run or host
many operang system and it alone can replace from dozens to hundreds of smaller
severs.

Supercomputer is the term for one of the fastest, most powerful computer system
currently available. This system is mainly use for running large scale simulaon or
specialized applicaon that required extreme processing power.
Task 2:
Fiesta a clothing brand in Vietnam is a start-up company planning to open a small branch
in Hanoi, the aim of the branch is to develop self- tesng programs provided services for
head-quarter. The company planning to use open-source soware:
• Open Oce
• IDEs: Qt, Netbeans, ...
• X-Emacs, LaTex distribuon and tools.
• Java JDK 1.8 • Android Simulators
• Etc.

The company approached you as computer expert and asked for help in designing and
creang the specicaon of the 20 computers for the branch including 15 computers for
developers and 5 computers for oce sta. The total budget for procurement is $18000
so you must not exceed this budget.
Task 2.1: Discuss the various stages that you would follow in arriving at nal
specicaons of recommended system. You should include Hardware / Soware
specicaon.
Answer:
Aer searching all the system requirement of the soware that you are going to use, the
following hardware have been chosen from hps://pcpartpicker.com for the developers
and oce user. The cost of 15 computers for the developers is $15,000 and 5 computers
for oce use is $2,500. (this price has included shipping fee as well as taxes and others
fee). So, the total cost of the computers is $17,500.

Task 2.2:

of the company? CPU and Motherboard
Developers:
Looking at the software that the branch of the company going to use, there are a lot of
developing and simulation which will need a lot of CPU power. The core i7-9700 is a great
choice with its 8 logical core and blazing fast 3.0GHz base frequency and can turbo up to
4.7GHz. AMD is an option but Intel is known for its stability for generations. The
motherboard is important because it dictate how many RAM slots you will have, how
many drives you can connect, Audio, WIFI, etc. The motherboard from Asus delivers great
stability and expansions for the future if you have the need.
Office users:
The core i3-9100 can basically run any office task that the user gives to it with great cost
to performance value.
RAM/Memory
Developers:

16GB of ram needed if you run multiple simulations at the same time without getting any
stutter. Simulations can easily consume over 10GB of RAM so 16GB of RAM is a must.
Office users:
4-8Gb of RAM is now the standard of a computer so within the budget, I want the
employee to have the best experience when using the computer.
Drives
An SSD make the workflow faster and more streamlined. When launching a project, the
launch time and load time will be significantly reduced.
Video card
When performing simulations, a dedicated video card the best way to reduce the CPU
usage by carrying the task for the iGPU inside of the core i7-9700.
Monitor
This monitor from HP provides decent performance and it come with an anti-glare panel
that is good for long hours of using the computer.
- Critical evaluation
After having finished the assignment, I feel that I have a lot to learn about how to deliver
what I think in to the assignment in the smoothest way, how to compile all the information
that I have and how to write a proper report. The structure I think it decent whereas the
grammar is not so good.
- Conclusion
We have come to the end of this report. Overall, we have understood the function of
computer system and how to design, build and configure computer system. In task 1, we
different in environment for computer. We also had saw computer hardware, computer
software and the performance factor of a computer. In computer hardware, we have seen
all the necessary hardware to build a computer. After that, we learned that there are many
kinds of computer system, Personal Computer, Minicomputer, Mainframes Computer and
Super Computer. In task2, we have known how to design the specification of a computer
system to meet the needs of the company and how to evaluate the suitability of the
system.
