The line graph shows the number of UK teenagers who followed a vegetarian diet
between 1980 and 2020. The numbers are shown in thousands of individuals.
In 1980, about 2,000 teenagers were vegetarian. This number went up slightly to just
under 3,000 in 1985 before falling back to about 2,000 in the early 1990s.
From the mid-1990s, the number of young vegetarians started to rise, reaching a peak
of around 4,000 in 2000. After that, the figure went down again, staying at around
2,000 individuals for several years.
Around 2015, there was a big change. The number of vegetarian teenagers started to
increase very quickly. It rose dramatically from about 2,000 in 2015 to more than
9,000 by 2020. This shows a big growth in the last few years of the period.
Overall, while the number of vegetarian UK teenagers fluctuated in the first 35 years,
it saw a very sharp and significant increase at the end of the period.
Writing task 2
In today's fast-paced world, convenience foods are becoming more and more common.
Some people think that these foods will become so popular that they will completely
replace traditional foods and the way we cook them. I partly agree with this idea, but I
don't think traditional foods will disappear completely.
There are many reasons why convenience foods are so popular. They save a lot of
time for people who are busy with work or school. For example, a frozen pizza or a
microwave meal can be ready in just a few minutes, which is much faster than
cooking a meal from scratch. Also, these foods are often cheaper than buying all the
ingredients to cook a traditional dish. This makes them a good choice for people on a
tight budget. We can see these foods in every supermarket and they are easy to buy.
However, I do not believe that traditional foods will ever be completely replaced.
Traditional foods are an important part of our culture and history. Many families have
special recipes that are passed down from generation to generation. For instance, in
Vietnam, people still love to make traditional dishes like Phở or Bánh at home,
especially for festivals and special occasions. Cooking these foods is a way to connect
with family and friends. Furthermore, traditional foods are often healthier because
they contain fresh ingredients and fewer preservatives and additives compared to
processed convenience foods. People are also becoming more aware of health, so they
still want to cook healthy meals.
In conclusion, while convenience foods are very useful and will continue to be
popular because they are fast and cheap, traditional foods will not disappear. They are
too important for our culture and health. I think that both types of food will exist
together in the future.
