SARS VS COVID 19
Hello everyone, team 1 here, and today we're having a presentation about the topic
epidemic and we are going to compare Covid 19 with 2003 SARS pandemic. I think
this topic may interest you guys so stay tuned and see what we have for you.
This topic will be presented as a conversation between me, Cuong and my friend,
Diem. Let’s get started. Hi Diem, so our teacher gave us an assignment about SARS
and Covid, right? Have you done it? Oh, great. So can we discuss the issue right now
or you are busy? I really need some help with information of Covid 19
Yes great, let’s go.
During my research, I found out that SARS in 2003 and Covid 19 do share things in
common and I’m gonna illustrate right now
1. Similarity
Genomic characterization has shown that SARS CoV 2 share almost 80% of
the genome with SARS CoV apart from additional gene regions
Both are coronavirus-related respiratory infections spread by respiratory
droplets created when a virus-infected individual coughs or sneezes, or by
contact with virus-infected objects or surfaces
Have similar at-risk groups, such as older adults and those with underlying
health conditions
When they broke out, there was hardly any preparation as well as vaccination
for treating patients
Do you agree with me about this part, Diem? Oh great, thank you
2. Difference: so let’s move to the differences, shall we? This is the part the I need
help from you. I have to make some comparisons between Covid 19 and SARS
regarding the 5 categories here as you can see
a. Origin
SARS COVID-19
- It began on November 27, 2002, in
China's Guangdong region, and was
caused by the SARS corona virus
(SARS-CoV)
- It began in the final week of December
2019 in Wuhan (China), the largest city
in Hubei Province, and was caused by
the SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV 2)

- Found in masked palm civets - Found in horseshoe bat
b. Symptoms
Let’s move on to the part symptoms
I know that COVID-19 and SARS share many similar symptoms. However, there are
some subtle differences
SARS COVID-19
- Most of them have to tend to suffer
fever, cough, malaise, body aches and
pains, headache, shortness of breath
- Some people even have problems with
diarrhea, chills
- Fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of
breath, muscle aches and pains,
headaches and diarrhea
- Stuffy or runny nose, nausea, chills,
painful throat (with or without repeated
shaking), loss of scent and taste
c. Transmission
SARS-CoV-2 appears to be more easily disseminated than SARS-CoV. One theory is
that the quantity of virus, or viral load, is highest in the nose and throat of patients
who have COVID-19 immediately after symptoms emerge.
In contrast to SARS, when virus loads peaked much later in the disease, this is a good
thing. This suggests that patients infected with COVID-19 may be transferring the
virus earlier in the course of the infection, while their symptoms are still emerging but
not yet worsening.
d. Life threat
Next part is about life threat
Covid-19 Sars
A total of 248,077,245 confirmed cases
of the coronavirus COVID-19 that
originated from Wuhan, China, and a
death toll of .5,024,779 deaths
It’s estimated that of people 20 percent
with COVID-19 will need to be
The global SARS outbreak lasted from
the late 2002 to the mid-2003. During
this time, contracted over 8,000 people
the virus and 774 of them died
SARS cases were more severe, in
general. It’s estimated that 20 to 30

hospitalized for treatment. A smaller
percentage of this group will need
mechanical ventilation.
Generally speaking, mortality rates for
COVID-19 have been estimated to range
between 0.25 and 3 percent, though rates
vary from country to country.
percent of people with SARS required
mechanical ventilation.
SARS has a higher mortality rate than
COVID-19. The estimated mortality rate
is about , with some patient 10 percent
population having a mortality rate as
high as 45 percent
e. Our solution to SARS and Covid-19
Our responses to these two epidemics are pretty close in terms of symptoms.
However, there are certain distinctions to be made.
How Viet Nam fought against SARS How Viet Nam fought against COVID-19
- Our community functioned as usual,
but everyone had to wear a mask
- Our government immediately closed
the border with China to keep the
threats away from entering the
country, which I consider a sensible
solution to cope with the disease. So
how did Vietnam fight the Covid 19
pandemic
- For the safety of the citizens, schools,
restaurants, shopping centers, etc had to
close
- The administration has presented the
virus as a shared foreign adversary,
calling for public unity to battle it,
reflecting the country's long history of
being besieged by foreign invaders
That’s interesting. So that’s the last part of the assignment. Thank you for helping me
to finish the homework. I can’t complete without your help, I really appreciate it.

nice day!
That’s the end of our presentation about SARS and Covid 19. I hope you guys enjoyed
it. Thank you for listening!
