Offline learning, also known as traditional education, is a long-standing-yet-not-obsolete term in
comparison with convenient and wide-ranging online learning. The later seems to be in the
rocket among learners, especially during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic where the
reduction of face-to-face interaction takes place, thanks to its pervasive degree of coverage,
regarless of the distance between students attending one class. However, I assume that e-learning
can not outweigh classroom education specifically at the direct interaction class members have
on each other, which is neccessitous for their positive development, serving not only learners’
educational success, but also their future careers and personal improvement.
The undeniable upsides of online learning during the pandemic
As the COVID-19 era unfolds, any kinds of direct interaction between any members of the
society are under restriction. Many parts of the world have to upgrade their abilities in using
technology in every steps of life and online education is absolutely not an exception. Virtual
schools issued the prevention of the disease with the maximum curtailment of direct skin-to-skin
contact between class members as the adverse is the cause of COVID-19 infection. To be
specific, Vietnam’s statistics on COVID-19 cases among students and teachers reached a record
high within just a week after campus education re-opens on March 2022. Thus, online education
is the optimized solution to partly warrant the positive state of students’ and teachers’ physical
health at the same time keeps every work stay on the right and stable track. The second seeable
advantage of cyber-school is that students can freely arrange and progress their study plans at
their personal space which aid them with time managing, commuting and alike fees and get rid of
the fear of infecting with the disease.
Offline lecturing is irreplaceable and strongly outweigh the advantages of e-learning
Although online classes seems to be the advantageous education form in the hazardous era of
COVID-19, traditional courses affirm itself to be indispensable to each students and tutors on a
long-term basis. The reason supporting the long-lasting existence of traditional learning
outweighing internet-based learning belongs to the former’s upside the later can not embrace: the
opportunity of students training themselves with vital soft skills as they directly face different
challenges in life. Home-based studying has taken away this chance of natural development
within students as they are confined in one place, progress their learning by themselves without
any contact with their peers like they used to. Therefore, they have to temporarily stop their
receipt of experience and soft skills training, especially communication-relatings such as
listening, problem-solving, negotiating,... which they used to have with school-based education
as they directly face various situations. To be specific, students can not just have academic
knowledge as their whole-life-companion, in other words, they need to get exposed to and master
soft and hard skills that are vital to their inner improvement in order to face different kinds of
challenges themselves. It is clear that online learning can never bring as much as those
mentioned compared to traditional classes.
Besides, teachers can instantly progress and solve the doubts of their students about one topic
which helps establish close and strong eye-to-eye interaction between them, instead of raising
questions and answers to a screen that is possible to lose connection at a random time. Last but
not least, traditional lecturing is an optimized way for tutors to mornitor and supervise the
classroom, lessons as well as their students at both their behaviour and their academic progress. Discussion
Internet-based learning and traditional education have its own benefits and drawbacks.
Homebased courses are prefered due to its convenience and cost-saving, yet the downsides
comes mostly to the lack of social experience which beneficially appears in campus learning.
This is followed with the assurance in students’ academic progress and their personal
improvement in building skills and experience which is helpful in their later life. In the nutshell,
the positive points of e-courses can not outweigh that of direct classes on a long-term basis as the
role of soft skills learning is vital to each students as they live their post-graduate lives. Conclusion
It can be reaffirmed that traditional learning is indispensable to students and teachers, but
internet-based courses can not be underated as well. Therefore, conbining these two forms of
education with e-learning acts as a supplement to offline classes is a worth-considering idea,
serving the aim of ensuring students’ positive development, both physically, mentally and academically. 736 words
