SECTION 1: SHORT ESSAY (40 points)
From your observation and experience, how has the job recruitment process changed in the
digital age and especially through the Covid-19 pandemic? Have the changes created opportunities, or
challenges to students?
Justify your point of view, and give supporting evidences in 400 words (+/- 10%). In case you need
to refer to external sources, you shall include in-text citation and a reference list following APA format.
As I observed that in the digital age, organizations implement revolutions to adapt to the new era.
Recruitment process plays a role around the world. Thanks to technological innovation, the hiring process
has transformed rapidly to deal with Covid19 pandemic.
Steps in the process have changed from digitization. Job search takes place on social networks,
such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn instead of on traditional newspapers, since the rise of the Internet,
which allows reaching faster. According to 2019 Candidate Experience Report, 74.5% of employees use
job boards as one of the top resources to find new jobs, and 55.6% took advantage of their professional
social networks. This helps people save a lot of time in this stage, which is able to search for a job every
time. Furthermore, corporations ought to focus on their brands by improving the online profile, attracting talent candidates.
Interview is a vital step in the recruitment process. Traditional one is an in-person job interview,
which happens as one-on-one interview between candidates and the hiring department. However, due to
the pandemic, most interviews are virtual by phone, social networks. The group interviews also take place
through meeting software, such as Google Meetings, Zoom, to restrict the spread of coronavirus. This
interview concept requires a well-prepared plan by exploring guidelines on corporations website. In
addition a lot of companies will ask candidates to conduct a video interview, so that they should know how
to use this video effectively. For example, the virtual internship program, organised by AIESEC,
implement completely in virtual to help citizens get acquainted with new concept.
The transformation in hiring process creates both opportunities and challenges to students. In order
to ace the interview successfully, students need to practice using digital equipment as well as know how to
edit videos in general. This is also the strength to impress recruiters if candidates have capability of
utilizing computer skill. As a result, students should acquire additional knowledge by participating in some
courses in online and direct education to meet recruiters' demand in the technology era.
In conclusion, the recruitment process has experienced revolutionary change thanks to technology
advancements. People always learn to catch up with transformations, which help achieve rewarding work.

Process Has Changed, Human Resources Blog - Spark Hire
SECTION 2: WRITING A BUSINESS MESSAGE (60 points)
Choose ONE of the two following topics for this section. TOPIC 1:
Imagine that you are the Human Resources Manager at PassAtAllCost, a local consulting
company. Recently, you and other managers have been concerned about some younger employees’
behaviors on Facebook. They are young and energetic, but they seem to overshare their personal activities,
such as partying, and excessive drinking on their personal accounts. Sometimes they share their comments
about their workplace, such as “I don’t want to work anymore”, “Why do I have to satisfy stupid people
every day?”. One of them even shared photos from a shooting for an advertisement with a famous
celebrity, while the information of the campaign was supposed to be kept secret from the public.
The abuse continues in spite of company’s internet-use policy in place. The management are
worrying that some young employees are heading for troubles, and some day they will leak confidential
information of the company out. Managers are also complaining that their members are spending too
much time surfing social networks at work. After some meetings, the management board has decided that
Facebook should be banned during working hours.
Your task: As the Human Resources Manager, write a memo to remind all employees about the
internet-use policy of the company, and announce the prohibition of Facebook use during working hours,
effective immediately after the announcement is released. TOPIC 2:
Imagine that you are an employee at ForeverKoi, a local retail company. Last year, your company
released a new policy that prohibited the use of all social networks during working hours. The only
accepted channel for instant communication at the moment is Zalo. The reason is that the management
worried about some employees’ abusive behaviors, such as sharing photos of them partying, drinking
excessively, and even complaining about the workplace on their personal accounts. They also thought that
employees were spending too much time on unproductive activities on social networks at the office.
You, however, think that social networks can indeed enhance productivity and make employees
less stressful at work, if used appropriately. You also have encountered some communication troubles with
the customers, as many of them are not familiar with Zalo. The company is limiting its opportunity to
attract young customers and young talents by viewing social networks as an obstacle to productivity.
Your task: Write an email to the Human Resources Manager to explain your point of view, and
propose an idea of implementing suitable guidelines for social media use, instead of completely banning social networks at work.

Subject: Solutions for social media use in work Dear Mr Alexander,
I am writing this email to interpret the use of social media in our company. Since ForeverKoi is a
local retail company, we need maintaining the relationship with customers. In the digital age as well as the
pandemic, social networks channel is one of the effective choice, which allows boosting customer
interaction. Although our online contact is carried out by Zalo, most customers have trouble with this
platform, leading to limiting accessible buyers. This has a negative impact on productivity. Furthermore,
social networks help employees relieve stress in work in order to create a dynamic workplace.
In addition, I will suggest a lot of solutions, avoiding abuse of Internet in working hours for
personal issues negatively affects company reputation, here are my solutions:
• First, it is necessary to separate Internet access for employees and managers. It allows
CEO, accountants, receptionists to connect with the rapid pace because of their job function.
• Second, I suggest that the employee's Internet access time should be controlled in an
appropriate amount of time to avoid non-work-related sites.
To implement suitable guidelines as an alternative to prohibited policy for Internet access of the
employees, I have proposed 2 solutions. Please take time to read and contact me via my email as soon as
possible if you have anything to discuss. Best Regards, Nhi Huynh Human Resources Assistant
