Many people argue that there should be gender equality in a nation’s police force or
military force. While others believe that women are ill- suited to those job. This
essay aims to shed lights on both view before giving out my opinion.
On the one hand, it is reasonable for the idea that people should expect woman’s
equal roles in army force. Firstly, woman can bring diverse skill sets to these roles.
Joining the army does not mean woman have to take the guns and face to face with
the enemies in the battleground, they can serve in many other roles such as
medicine, transporting, negotiation, …, where their carefulness, intelligence may be
better than those of men. Furthermore, women’s braveness has been proven
through history. Obviously, they have shown their roles to defend their country
during the war. As a prime example, Vietnamese women officers were extremely
prosperous to fight back to enemies, which devotes so much in the victory of
Vietnam against the best military nation in the world- the USA.
On the other hands, people claims that woman are not fit for those job in military
force or police force. Firstly, certain roles in army force require exceptional
strength, which is hard to adapt by women. Unlike most normal jobs where men
and women are on par with each other, being a soldier or a sergeant requires the
applicant to be tough and strong physically. There works need hard training, and
they will often have to deal with criminals, therefore women, who are fragile and
weak in physical health may not be the optimal choice for this job. Moreover ,
woman are not good at controlling their emotion as the male ones to participate in
missions. In many occasions, they might be sent to battlefields to fight against drug
dealers, smugglers, or even escaped prisoners, but they might lose control due to
their panic when they meet difficult situations, like facing severely injured people or
horrible accidental scenes. As a result, men have better potentials not only
physically, but mentally to work as a militant or policeman.
In conclusion, while some may accept that females should have equality in the army
force, I keep my point of view that those job are not suitable for them due to the
characteristics of those job, which are very hard for women to adapt.
