I. Personal living motto
The quote that I live with and follow is “Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the
courage to continue that counts”. This quote I used is taken from Winston S. Churchill,
who is the prime mister of Great Britain from 1940 to 1945. In addition, he also led the
country during World War II from 1951 to 1955, and his six-volume history of World War
II was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953 (History, 2019). Wilson Churchill's
quote acts as a gentle reminder that, whether we succeed or fail, moving forward can
be difficult, especially after a setback. But what really matters is just keeping going at
whatever pace you want and getting beyond whatever challenge you face. Success and
failure are ultimately subjective. The only thing we can count on is having the fortitude to
keep going. I found this quote meaningful when I had bad grades on my high school
midterm exams and felt disappointed. Thus, I was motivated to study hard and learned
from my mistakes on midterm exams. Consequently, hard work pays off, my final grades
improved a lot compared to midterm ones. It is not an overstatement to say that this
quote has altered my life.
II. Personal Vision and Mission statement
1. Vision statement
Because of their ability to help enterprises create value, logistics and supply chain
management are crucial to the growth of a business enterprise. Due to the fact that this
profession is still unfamiliar and difficult for everyone, Vietnamese companies may deal
with a shortage of workers in this field. My vision statement is that I desire my future self
to be an independent woman and work as a manager in logistics and supply chain
management so that I can dedicate myself to the development of Vietnam’s economy.
Because of my passion for logistics, I have currently studied international business
major at ISB, which is related to that field. Furthermore, I wish to live my ideal life and
travel to Switzerland in the winter to have a “white Christmas”.
2. Mission statement
In order to effectively accomplish the aforementioned objectives, my main goal is to
improve my mental and physical well-being and acquire as much experience as I could.
As a first-year student at ISB, I will utilize my opportunity to absorb academic knowledge
about my future career and participate in seminars and webinars hosted by ISB to
strengthen certain essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and organization.
I will make a great effort to take full advantage of chances to have internships at some
big Vietnamese companies with a view to gaining as much experience as possible and
preparing for my curriculum vitae
III. Personal SWOT Analysis
Strengths
-An active listener
-Empathy
-Persistence
-Critical thinking
Weaknesses
-Lack of emotional control
-Lack of communication skills
-Being easily distracted
Opportunities
-Studying at a university that is
top 1 in economics
-Having a great network of
people working in the business
field
-Studying major in English
-Vietnam’s economy is growing
rapidly
Threats
-Highly competitive workforce
-Difficult hiring requirements
1. Strengths
One of my greatest strengths, in my opinion, is my ability to be an active listener. I
became completely interested in what the speaker was saying since I was paying
attention actively. This would help me gain the trust of people and better grasp the
situation so that I can decide what to do. Additionally, attentive listening is the key to
each effective conversation, which aids in my quest to learn more and get more
experience to advance professionally. The fact that I have empathy is another quality of
mine. My mother instilled in me this personality when I was younger, and she provided a
good example for me to follow. I can comprehend others and always put myself in their
place to sympathize because of this strength. This makes it easier for me to work with
other employees, as they feel that they are appreciated, which motivates them to put all
their effort into their work. According to a study, empathic emotion is crucial in
establishing this paternalistic climate of support and protection to foster outstanding job
performance in these high-power cultures (Yan & Hunt, 2005). Another thing that makes
me distinctive is my persistence. I have great attention to detail and perseverance while
working on a project. When I deeply comprehend the components, I can quickly identify
the fundamentals and viciously fight for them in order to meet deadlines. This is
frequently reflected in criticism from peers and management. The final strength that
distinguishes me is the ability to think logically and crtically. I am fond of analyzing news
articles and posts on social media platforms. This skill allows me to develop into a
productive and efficient person because I can logically identify the best decision and
provide feedback. To elucidate, I will describe my common and how I work in a team. I
typically perform the responsibilities of an analyst, carefully evaluating the opinions and
ideas of other team members in order to come to the best decision possible.
Furthermore, this job enables me to view the issue from a variety of perspectives.
People who can critically evaluate and analyze arguments are better capable of making
connections between different academic fields, recognizing the practical applications of
their knowledge, and having a more thorough and long-lasting understanding of the
material (Islam, 2015). These characteristics are what give me a great basis for my
accomplishments.
2. Weaknesses
Nobody is flawless, everyone has their own weaknesses, including me. Despite my
strengths, my biggest weakness is that I lack emotional control. Due to their high
sensitivity, individuals are prone to becoming hurt and enraged easily, which strains and
complicates relationships. A neutral comment is taken as an offense, and a kind rebuke
is interpreted as harsh criticism (Aron, n.d.). Due to this weakness, working in a team is
such a significant challenge for me. If my team members do not agree with the idea I
have, I would feel like they look down on me and I am not appreciated. Furthermore,
whenever I make any decisions, I am dominated by emotions. Normally, I overlook their
disadvantages and align myself with my feelings. This causes me to make an
inconsistent decision, which occasionally has an impact on the outcome. In order to
improve myself, I am trying my best to control my feelings as well as accept my
teammate's comments and make any decisions that are not driven by emotions.
Furthermore, I lack communication skills. All of us know that communication is the
foundation of every relationship. A failure to communicate effectively can damage
relationships and make success difficult to achieve. And this led to miscommunications
with my teammates and even my instructor. My coworkers misunderstand my
assignment when we operate as a team, which causes confusion in our task,
necessitates repeated labor, and takes a lot of time to finish. Lack of communication
skills has adverse effects on the outcomes and productivity of our team. Asking for
honest feedback is one of the most effective ways in improving my communication
skills. As with most leadership traits, it is necessary for me to acquire genuine
comments from peers, instructors, and team members. Others will assist me in
recognizing areas for development that I may have ignored if I frequently ask them for
honest feedback (Patel, 2019). The final point is that I find it difficult to concentrate on
studying since I am easily distracted. According to many researchers from the fields of
neuroscience, psychology, and cognitive science, multitasking while completing
schoolwork has a detrimental impact on students' learning and performance (Schmidt,
2020). For instance, when I review my knowledge for the final exams, I am usually
distracted by my mobile phone and annoying noise from my neighborhood, so it is really
hard for me to keep up with my studying, and takes a lot of time for me to finish my
work. Consequently, to avoid wasting time and distraction, I always put my phone away
from me when studying and studying at quiet places such as the school library.
3. Opportunities
For me, being given the chance to study at UEH ISB is one the biggest opportunities
for my passion and future career path. Studying at ISB provides me an international
knowledge, which also helps improve my English skills. In addition, the school
curriculum has been updated annually to reflect changes in global economic patterns. I
have seen that our lecturers regularly assign case studies which is a method that helps
us associate with real problems, and develop a variety of skills such as analyzing,
comprehension and teamwork. Having a chance to study in an environment with great
people and a top-notch course motivates me to improve myself in terms of knowledge
and social skills, which are crucial for recruitment and promotion at work. Furthermore, I
can have a great network with people that are successful in the business field such as
lecturers and alumni. Currently, the economy requires a highly qualified and specialized
workforce. Particularly, employees who are fluent in several languages may stand a
better chance to get a job at multinational corporations. The ability to communicate in
English increases one’s prospects of getting a job in international companies as well as
providing opportunities to make money abroad. For individuals to get decent
professions, being fluent in English has become a requirement (Jabri, 2021). As a
result, studying a major in English is such an advantage for me to apply to multinational
companies when I graduate and enter the workforce. In 2020, Vietnam was a success
story because of its ability to prevent the Covid 19 pandemic and retain one of the
world’s greatest growth rates (Dapice & Harvard University, 2022). Vietnam has
improved as a potential investment destination for foreign investors after the severe
coronavirus outbreak thanks to the outstanding pandemic control and government
assistance efforts (ECOVIS, 2021). Consequently, all of these elements boost people’s
ability to work in multinational organizations and bring opportunities to work abroad. The
chance to work for international organizations and to collaborate with so many
outstanding people is a huge opportunity for me because it will allow me to grow and
gain knowledge from them.
4. Threats
In spite of many opportunities in this field, there are numerous obstacles as well. High-
quality education has become increasingly in demand as Vietnam has gained more
popularity as a destination for foreign investment in Southeast Asia (Pham & Le, 2020).
The number of students enrolled in higher education in Vietnam has increased by 125
percent, from 200 students per 10,000 people in 2010 to 450 students per 10,000
people in 2020 thanks to the construction of new certification and quality verification
systems, and the development of a national credential (Trines, 2020). The demand for
highly educated workers is rising rapidly which results in a competitive job market. In
addition, one of the most significant concerns in Vietnam is the population explosion. In
Vietnam, the labor force between the ages of 15 to 39 now makes up around half of the
total workforce (Das, 2018). As a result, the unemployment rate will increase for the
young generation who have qualifications and specialized skills but lack practical
experience as I do. The following threat is that hiring requirements are becoming more
and more draconic. Research from Havard Business School has indicated that
experience rather than academic achievement is the most crucial component in
candidates’ applications for 37 percent of employers (Pelta, 2020). Graduates with
specialized skills and knowledge now will no longer have employment opportunities. As
a result, the undergraduate will be under much more strain. In order to attract the
attention of recruiters and increase my chance of getting a job as a first-year student, I
have to enhance my own employability by taking part in university activities and looking
for part-time jobs that are related to my field of study so that I can gain practical
knowledge and experience.
